Early 2000s Ice Cream trucks are what I grew up with 😋 I would always save up a few quarters, and the Ice Cream truck man would always say the going rate for an Ice Cream cone that day was how many quarters I happened to have that day 😂

I had my own ice cream truck back in the mid-70s. Actually the song I played on my ice cream truck was the one you were playing when the video first started. I'm old-school so I like the old music boxes from back in the 60s and 70s.

Moxie, We are starting our business this summer and are looking for a good freezer. I see that you have close to about 30 choices +/-, You get all those choices in that freezer?? Wow, where do you keep your spare inventory?

I've got about 25 items I carry every day. I easily get them all in there. The more choices you give them, the longer they keep the line from moving. Then you just stare at them picking their nose while they decide. The freezer is the most important piece of the entire operation. It's a cold plate freezer from C. Nelson. Plug it in at night, and it keeps the ice cream perfectly frozen all day with no power needs. Not too hard, like a freezer with dry ice, but just right for eating. Don't be that company that uses dry ice. You are selling rocks that no one can even eat till they thaw out a little. Spend the cash and get the best the first time...trust me. You will learn a way to arrange the boxes so the biggest selling items are on top, and the slower ones on the bottom. I keep a spare chest freezer on wheels at home in the garage. I load it up into the van for the weekly re-up. Good luck with the business!!

My favorite memory is how all of us on the street knew the schedule and would often gather together before she came so we could have a little party! The ice cream truck lady (I want to say her name was Ms. Jenny) also became quite familiar with us, and it was nice to feel like I was friends with the ice cream lady :)

You can’t sell stuff from Costco or Sam’s club…they have all the stickers you need. They’re usually free, but who knows in Cali. Then get a good quality music box…Good luck!

It's not the kids that you have to worry about. The MOMS make the decision. Just because YOU like it, doesn't mean it will translate to sales. What will deter people in general, is making it look like something else, and not an ice cream truck. How many restaurants have you passed on, saying to yourself, "It looks weird". Something to think about...Give yourself every advantage you can. Keep it simple, and THAT will help you be successful.

Got the money then running so that the Ice Cream man wouldn't leave before we could get there. Sometimes dad just put us all in the station wagon and we'd follow the music. By the time I was a teen....there was no ice cream trucks ...at least not that came to our neighborhood. I have dreamed of doing this for the kids, not so much for the money, I'm retired.

@@dennisandrews8485 Yeah! We all have good memories of the ice cream trucks. If one failed to come to your neighborhood anymore, it's simply about money. Your neighborhood didn't support it enough. It's not because of you. I have abandoned many myself, as the interest just wasn't there anymore, or the loyal customers moved somewhere else...but I think I know how to cultivate business. I'm nice to everyone, and I say hello and goodbye, and thank you, etc. It's the most rewarding business I've ever owned. Not monetarily, but in actual rewards. Kids saying thank you, as their parents look amazed they finally said it to someone. The screams as we enter some parks, and the older kids run faster than the younger ones our way...and even the dogs we've met on our routes. They know when the "treat guy" is coming..believe that! If you're on the fence, I say DO IT! You still get winters off, LOL!
