Great thing about pitch imperfections is that it makes "flat" reverbs sound nicer. Those deviations from a single pitch (and associated harmonics) cause reverbs to sound more diffuse and smoother. I do it sometimes in a send fx chain, adding a little chorus or flange before the reverb.

@@tredfxman What's the clickbait? It's not that they are famous. It's WHY are they famous. And the why is that they do things differently to the others. Obviously luck and marketing has a lot to do with it but without the talent neither of those are any use.

Big Z - can you do a video analyzing the synth sounds and production on Taylor Swift's song Bejeweled? #1 music video on KZbin right now so you might get some algorithm buzz from it too. The synth sounds are super high quality and polished - would be interesting to understand how to recreate. The arpeggio synth has something special going on in the high frequencies that I can't put my finger on. Bass sound is really good too - can't tell if it's an 808 or something else. Lots of good ear candy. When she says "nice" the second time in the chorus there is something they're doing to the vocal to make it sound very satisfying and mixing in another sound that creates a massive lift. Curious to hear you give your take on it.

nice video and I like the fact, that you picture how the concept less is more is very effective. I usually used to scram my projects with tons of FX and not having a well defined direction. Had to learn it the hard way, which means, if a synthesizer has a build-in distortion or LFO-Tool, don't add another one to the channel, because it messes up the sound in a very weird way. :D Thanks for that tutorial

automating the gain on the reverb instead of the send amount from the source sounds like a neat way of working with sends. I'm defo going to experiment with that.
@Beatsbasteln2 жыл бұрын
yeah, the pitch fluctuations can really get a sound to become more alive. what i like most about them tho, is that you can also use vibrato as a timing humanizer, if you use a vibrato effect instead of serum's lfo attached to a pitch parameter. that can even liften up robotic percussion sections and at a low rate you don't perceive it as a vibrato
@vibewisemusic2 жыл бұрын

Hey Big Z, some of your tips are top notch! Could you do a video about your bussing thought process? I've noticed on other videos you have a Synth, Lead, Bass, drum verb bus, this kind of makes sense. Still I wonder why you choose that approach over say a small, medium and large reverb bus?

Pitch imperfections are hot right now but I’m willing to be they don’t be in a couple years. Rufus du Sol set the precedent for this sound imo and once that sound is too overplayed I think something new will replace that concept.

Is there an option in Vital to make the LFO pitch imperfection ore subtle? I think the "smooth" option on the LFO is doing it but I want to be sure I'm right. I mapped LFO to the TUNE option in Vital as I think that's the right one?
