It would be interesting to see what the boost port does alone for power increase , and then do additional transfer work to see if there is a noticable difference. Thanks for the entertainment

Just finished my first rebuild on a 461 last week. If it wasn't for your channel boosting my confidence, I would have never attempted it. Thank you!

Dude exactly! I did a full rebuild and port job on my ms460 all because of the Tinman and Ironhorse! She's a ripper now :) congrats BTW, it's sooo addicting being confident enough to do a full tear down and rebuild!!!

If it were my saw I would cut the skirt for the lower transfer about half way to the deck instead of level with it. I would cut it in an arch instead of squaring it off and bevel the edge to aid flow. I think this method will preserve case compression and vacuum impulse and not hurt piston wear to dramatically. Good luck with the build!

Yes, what this guy said ^^

I completely agree with this comment :) that would be wicked, plus it would lighten your piston....orangutan mode engage!

hi tinman, you have the perfect piston for milling windows. because the piston pin does not run over the transfer channels. You could mill the piston nicely, which in turn makes it a little lighter, and mill an opening in the cylinder between the channels. This way the flow from the piston can be used. If you take too much out of the cylinder you will have too much dead space in the crankcase which is not so good with 2-stroke engines.

I like the idea of blasting holes in the side of the cylinder if you ain't worried about it flaking and putting the windows in the piston. You'd have a lighter piston and accomplish what you're going after without losing the support to the piston

Sounds like winter is doing it’s thing up north. It has been colder here lately but no snow and my wife would love some of what you have. Be safe my friend. 👍

Lovin this p42 build series! And my vote is for the windowed transfers and piston👍🏻

That's the bad part about that boost port, if it wasn't there I'd remove the lower cylinder for the lower transfers

What a great video Sir! I'm not exactly sure what to do there but really enjoy watching. Thank you for sharing your time!
@PatrickFlagg-ys1lx3 күн бұрын
I would take out part of it. About half of the skirt not full width of the transfer and round it so it gets more support and send it. I think it would be ok for along time.
@EricaMTB2 күн бұрын
You can drill some holes through that cylinder area, instead of cutting it all away.

I hope that boost port works out for you. (wall looks thin, I trust your judgment ;) ) That saw should rip some noodles without any trouble @98 deg. exhaust, boost port, big lower transfers and a reed box. Can't wait to see it cut!
@larrybollinger73193 күн бұрын
I agree with your thoughts. I think you'll drill a couple holes in the piston so oil can get between the cylinder and piston. It'll help cool the saw.

Had to change the filter on my slip tank today. That sounds like the same snowfall as here. Pushed snow most of the afternoon with skid steer. I don't know enough to have an educated opinion, but the piston window looks interesting. I feel the more support, the better.I am really anticipating the end results!

Tinmam I'm glad that you are getting further on the p 42. But you should assemble it as it is. Then get it running. Then if you want to expirement you can always take it apart and do mods. Not every mod works on the pioneers. Trust me I built about 40-50 over the years.

Use a small chisel and hammer the anti vibe mount counter clockwise. A little penetrating oil on the back side of the threads helps too.

I 💯 understand wut you doing , me I wouldn't do the boost port, and just make the cylinder match the cases , but that's me cus I know that wakes those saws up big time , in order to do both boost port and case matching you'd have to send that cylinder out to have it replaced that would help some on the lower cylinder for strength, but that's an expensive build , my buddy built on and he has $1200 into that saw but it's an animal !!
@fast44052 күн бұрын
I wouldnt trim that support area away, but i would bore a couple small holes at an angle toward the transfer port, to feed the transfer. You could also window the piston, but its probably not necessary.

Tinman a lot of people don't pay attention to this but if you look at some saws there a sticker on them and it tells you how many hours those saws are good for before maintenance is required, I have an old Husqvarna 371 that on the top cover the one decal tells you 300 hrs is it life of the stock components need serviced .

Personally think it will be fine if you raise the lowers and cut out part of the cylinder to help with flow. Won't really know until one puts her back together to see what it's gonna do you'll know if it gains piston slap at bdc. The boost port I thinks gonna help push exhuast gas out and cool the exhuast side a little better. Might also spit a little fuel out, in the end I don't think it's really gonna hurt it since you drilled the piston for the exhuast bridge. And again still really won't know until a guy puts it back together to test out.

that hole in the transfer and hole in the cylinder lip seemed really cool. I would love to see it and get it demonstrated. And have you showed Modification to the crank before. I saw a previous vid where you explained the JBweld sealing up turbulance earias, and smouthing out around the crank to make it flow better. I would love to see more of that if you have a example in youre saws. I just got a hold of a Partner 5000 Plus. have you done anything to those ?

Tinman, Ive got an old Husky 44. I think you had a video of one you had running but i dont see any tear down/rebuild vids. I love the saw but she dont run reliably. I’m suspecting crank seals. Any suggestions where to shop for vintage saw parts? EBay? Thank you!

Tinman if I'm not mistaken I think iron horse already built one of those saws , and he did wut you were thinking cutting out the lower cylinder sleeve to match the cases , but I don't remember him adding a boost port .wut is the purpose of the boost port. ?
