What should happen to Shamima Begum?

While the media elite have oozed pity for Shamima Begum, the public have shown no such moral depravity. In this on the sofa discussion programme with spiked editor Brendan O’Neill the majority of young volunteers taking part are clear that her age is no excuse, they don’t want her back and she is a traitor. Keen to understand why anyone would leave the UK to join a barbaric death cult, young volunteers question multi-culturalism and ask what British values really are. O’Neill outlines the disastrous impact of ‘grievance culture’ and summarises the British values we need to make citizenship meaningful and he suggests, we should re-think the UK’s treason laws.

Little Sparrow that is why I hate leftists. They never think. They never think of consequences, cause that is offensive to them. They support criminals, cause they always show sympathy for criminals and never the victims. I’m so dead tired of the left. If a 5 year old kid knows killing is bad. Then I would assume a Damn 15 year old girl should know better. But nah the left will obviously spin that around and make her a victim or even hero. Makes me sick to the stomach.

kubel83 - I don’t hate them, I just see how we have let crazy ideas go unchallenged. Whilst we’ve been busy paying off manmade debt, we have left our kids in the hands of socialist/liberal teachers (poorly paid jobs), who can force feed our kids from a position of authority. As we took the moral high ground of showing tolerance and fair play, they showed favouritism and promoted and employed each other until there are hardly no alternative voices in the education system. Now from a position of power they happily destroy people’s careers if they dare to express an alternative view. Don’t turn your anger into hate but definitely turn it into action and make your voice be heard. Do it boldly and rationally but do not let them hound or shout you down. Your voice is just as valid as theirs. If we force open debate, then we will win but kids minds have been shattered to the point where they can happily hold to logically opposing views whilst thinking nothing is wrong. If we are not careful, the government will be taking the same action as Germany did where you as a parent don’t even have a right to educate your own children!

Rich F - there is a minority that know better, then a silent majority that just go along with the current thinking. I wasn’t trying to blame all teachers, just highlight that it has been a strategic assault on the minds of our children and British traditions. By taking control of the narrative in schools and the media for more than 20-30 years, the political elites have gone from bad to worse taking many unsuspecting generations with them. I now have to take part blame for allowing us to get into this state and decide what can be done. But if we don’t make sure that future generations can think logically and debate / critique everything then we will be wasting our time.

@Angela-AScottishView

It sucks but the law states that any child born of a UK citizen, has British citizenship. So, if I for example had a baby with a foreigner in another country my child would still be a British citizen because I am British. The child would also hold duel citizenship for the country of birth and father's country of birth. I personally think she gave up being British when she chose to join IS. She was the poster child for Isis but, I feel like some members of the government want to bring her back so she can become the poster child in the UK of what happens when your radicalised. I hope that's not what happens because she's a disgusting being and dangerous! She has absolutely no regrets for what she has done. I agree with the gent that talked about the treason laws. Treason laws are over 600yrs old and the penalty for treason isn't harsh enough. The law is so old that it's not adapted for terrorism. Def harsher punishments need to happen. I do not think putting her in prison will be a deterrent for people to join terrorist groups. I think to show people what will happen if they do decide to do this, is by leaving Shamena over in Syria with her child and taking away citizenship. If she is let back into the UK we will be paying for her and her kids safety, benefits and housing for the rest of her life. If she's put into prison we are still paying for her and her kid. So to the British taxpayer we lose! I don't want to pay taxes that will make this witches life comfortable. She should be left were she is. At least she still has her life which is more than what her and her terrorist family afforded the people they murdered.

@Mary Robinson The following day, UK Home Secretary Sajid Javid announced that an order had been made with the intention of stripping Begum of her British citizenship.[14] The UK government contends that she holds, or is eligible for, citizenship of Bangladesh.[15] There have been reports that immigration lawyers confirm this position.[14] The Government of Bangladesh, however, stated that Begum does not hold Bangladeshi citizenship and will not be allowed to enter the country.[2][16][17] British law does not allow that an individual is made stateless and Begum will have the right to appeal the Home Office's decision to revoke her UK citizenship.[14] Javid's decision was criticised by Begum's immediate family members, who sought to stop it through legal methods, but her brother-in-law Muhammad Rahman urged the public to support the government decision. He said: "The information they have is to the best of their ability and the British people should support it".[18] Shamima Begum said that she might consider applying for Dutch citizenship.[19][20] en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shamima_Begum

I absolutely agree! She should be left there and stripped of everything as a deterrent to show people what will happen if you choose to join a terrorist organisation. The laws need to be changed regarding traitors. It's a law that's over 600yrs old and needs to be drastically updated. This woman at least still has her life which is more than that her and her terrorist family afforded the people they murdered. I am actually sick to death of hearing about this woman. She has been given too much attention and it now needs to stop. I do not feel sympathetic in anyway for this woman and her child. She chose to go and chose to have children in an area she knew was dangerous. What the hell did she think would happen? That she would watch those propaganda videos of beheadings, bombings etc...and she would live over there with a white picket fence and swing set in the garden. No, she knew what kind of place she was going to. She agreed with there views. She has no remorse for joining. In fact she only wanted to come back at the last minute when she knew IS had fallen were she was. She only wanted to come back for her child to be born in a NHS hospital. The news and government needs to stop focusing so much on this monster and start focusing on Britain again. It's like they want to continue to talk about her and cause outrage with the public, so we have our attention averted from what's going on regarding Brexit and other issues.

Her mother died suddenly of cancer in January 2014. In September 2014 her father remarried. In December 2014 she left for Syria. Shamima was targetted by the "Sisters Forum" who told her that if she died in Syria she would die a martyr and would meet her mother in paradise. Does knowing this make a difference? For a long, long time the British government policy was to watch and record extremist groups, allow them to grow in size and spread their hatred, not forgetting allowing the Saudi Govt to spread their hideous Wahabism and fund their terrorist education in UK. British policy did not protect British people and nurtured people like Shamima. Why isn't that the conversation instead of a teenager?

During the High Middle Ages those in England guilty of treason were punished in a variety of ways, including drawing and hanging. In the 13th century other, more brutal penalties were introduced, such as disembowelling, burning, beheading and quartering.

Its 2023 and I've just come across this video, what a great watch listening to everyone's views and opinions. In my opinion Shamima knew exactly what she was doing, she wasn't trafficked or groomed, she would have researched her journey and to the destination to where she was going. If Isis wasn't toppled we wouldn't even be having this conversation, she would be happily living in Syria with the murderous death cult.

In the past treason was punished with hanging, drawing and quartering. If you were lucky they simply lopped off your head. Refusing to allow someone back into the country is kind by comparison. If she was allowed back, there should be a trial for treason, and the child should be raised in foster care, as the blood relatives are evidently unfit.
