You realise there’s a problem when a minority, less than 10%, makes the majority be scared of blasphemy laws or of just visiting a Christmas market. What will happen to us when this minority reaches the 20%? - There are incompatible cultures that we need to be timely protected from. It’s called having survival instincts. It doesn’t mean violence but a honest conversation and a plan.

Many English nationalists comment that settlers in their country should adapt to their culture, but don't seem to be aware that England's ruling class used Divide & Rule policies to keep the minority Protestant settlers in Ireland from identifying with the majority culture, so that the people would not unite against the political elites. This was done through giving the Planters preferential treatment so that they would not want to identify with the majority as it would mean a loss of their special status (two-tier society) The monarchy is a top-down social order that worked to protect the ruling elite's personal wealth and power and instill compliance in the public. The ruling class rewarded loyal supporters with titles, and lands confiscated from the 'disloyal'. They cared about self-enrichment, not the 'native' people. They divided the native peoples to weaken social cohesion and protect their privileged position

The thought I keep coming back to is that while I basically support the traditional English position of negative liberty and parliamentary sovereignty I am also aware that the country is being colonised. To have the consent of the governed you need a common “demos”. A common identity etc. if my daughter was in a rape trial I wouldn’t support a jury of Rochdale Pakistanis for example. How does a jury of one’s peers even work in a “diverse” society ?

Native traditionalists / nationalists should try to find ways to congregate in the same regions. The settler colonial populations benefit from a clustering effect which helps them maintain themselves culturally and economically.

@LS-xs7sgКүн бұрын
I just think this is all wishful thinking. The settler colonial populations have more kids and are more assertive. The native English are fundamentally unmanned by liberal morality. A majority will only ever maintain itself if it asserts strength and a level of hostility to foreigners. Once you start engaging in the language of endless tolerance you just end up like the red squirrel getting outcompeted by invasive species with a more adaptive way of life.

John has values that are not shared by the majority of people. For example, hard conservative ideas on gay marriage and abortion. The irish people voted by a large majority for abortion rights and gay marriage in referenda. So the question is, should we deport people like John who dont share the values of the Irish people? Maybe they'd be more at home in reactionary conservative states like Hungary, Russia etc.

If you don't want to live as we live then why are you coming here?
@LS-xs7sgКүн бұрын
I think that position is totally incoherent. There will always be one cultural group which is more evolutionarily adaptive than others. we can support classical liberal Englishness and soft Anglican moral assumptions all we want but the Muslims have more kids and have more ethnic solidarity. You cannot go on forever like that. Eventually there is a tipping point. Any majority which does not attempt to assert strength and a level of hostility toward foreigners won’t be a majority for long.
@LS-xs7sgКүн бұрын
I disagree. Any majority which does not assert strength and a level of hostility toward foreigners will simply be replaced by a stronger group. You may not have noticed by liberal post Anglican boomer types don’t have many kids compared to the Islamic settlers

@@LS-xs7sg Agreed which is why language and cultural protection laws must be codified and enforced to promote the majority language and culture.
@LS-xs7sg22 сағат бұрын
@@darcylauren1934seems to me you could only get to that point by having a nationalist government. And a nationalist political movement would have already provoked the kind of violent resistance that tends to produce a spiral of revolutionary conditions. So by that point the government could do whatever it wanted. My view is basically that a people is justified in doing whatever is necessary to secure a future for itself in its homeland so my views fall way out of the liberal mainstream and would probably see me convicted if I voiced them all openly

Renan makes it clear that race, language interests, military necessity do not make a nation - it is the common glories of the past & the present consent to maintain them for the future. A nation is a great solidarity about suffering together & consenting to a common life. It has nothing to do with race or even merely shared language. Renan would be horrified by the conservative Right's atomized consumerism - which looks at solidarity as abjection.

I haven’t listened yet. But if you go to another country to live you should integrate into that culture by mixing with the natives, building friendships and relationships. You should find out what the native people value when it comes to social etiquette. I know manners may not seem like a huge deal but many cultures have differences in what they see as polite or rude. And it goes a long way when forming stereotypes. We all do it. What is seen as confidence and go getting can be seen as arrogant and pushy by others. And having worked in retail for two decades, for a very multicultural outlet that serves a diverse group of people, and as someone who likes to observe human interactions, well I can see how cultural differences can impact interactions and lead to actual bigotry. Which causes huge social problems in societies. It takes time for people to settle into a new type of tribe made up of many. The more you add the harder it is. That’s why I think if you value your society these things need to be done slowly and with great care. Mass migration always ends in disaster for at least one of the groups. People don’t like to give power away. Or even share.
