MY PROFILE:
I started fishing when I was just a young kid and instantly fell in love with Bass Fishing. Started fishing tournaments when I was in high school and have been fishing them ever since. For years I fished every tournament I could enter sometimes fishing as many as 45 tournaments a year. I qualified for the Elites when I was 30 but didn't have the sponsors or money to compete so I turned it down. Got sponsor support later and fished the FLW Tour for 2 years and having been fishing the Toyotas since 2006. I’ve won 5 Angler of the Year Titles becoming the only fishermen to have more than 3 AOYs in the Toyota series. Won numerous events along the way that has helped shape my way into working for Strike King as head of product innovation. Along the way, I picked up a camera and started filming my endeavors. I have now fallen in love with making videos about fishing and delivering it to you. Follow along the journey...it should be an honest and fun ride!

Fished the event..Congrats Russell on the 30lbs and the 11, but no surprise. I had 18- 1/2 with a 7 -1/4 and did not get paid...lol

Congrats on coaching son. Best thing about you continuing to share your experience is there will be some guys pursuing a fishing career this will help. Amazing story and commitment. Plus alternative path other than top level tournament trails that can destroy things financially.

5 fish limit per each period. That would be fun to watch. And keep it 1 period with FFS. Also, make it a 2 1/2lb min on the big fish lakes.

You’re so right Todd. But, when they were done using their 1/4 of FFS not too many anglers targeted the larger fish. And in return, they didn’t hardly catch any small one either! I know they are experimenting with which 1/4 to use it, but they didn’t seem to know where to go get those bigger ones, you and your partner are catching. Maybe you should do a full day trying the BPT format that was used and see what/how well you fair?

Hey Todd, I in my job worked for 6 to 7 days a week for most of my career that I loved doing without taking breaks like ever. Because I like you are workaholic. Now, I also spend all my free time with my family, just like you coaching my kids in sports. I retired at 52 but still had to find a part-time job (outside my comfort zone in retail, something I never did before). Having worked in the trades my whole life. I understand your point of view as a 5 fish tournament angler your whole life. But a double-digit fish in a every fish counts tournament could move you from not making the cut to making it. That's the whole point of every fish counts. One question I have is because I do not follow the trails you are referring to . Are they a live watched event or just people at the weigh-ins recording this? Now, the weights were incredible, and the fish were big, no doubt. But if no one saw you, catch them. Then all the drama and excitement is wrapped up in a two hour weigh-in. But in live events, you better be catching them if you want to hold onto an audience. Even in a 5 fish format, it's better to be catching and culling fish than only catch 5 all day. As an entertainment product. Sponsors are the backbone of the industry for the companies and pros. They need viewership minutes to keep funding the thing we love. Now I grew up on Bassmaster like most people, but I like both formats and I expect different things frome each. But the one thing I want from both is to be entertained, that's why I watch. Ok, now I am rambling, lol 😆 keep up the great work, Todd. Tight lines. Regards, Steven.

I enjoy both formats, but understand where you are coming from. When I am fun fishing, I am still always tracking my 5 biggest on my scale; and judge my day by how big of a bag I caught that day. The format definitely detracts at Texas and Florida tourneys, where those huge kicker fish swim. I think the BPT tourney format is better up north on the smallmouth factories. Those smallmouth factories have so many 5 lbs, that 1st and 50th place are less than a pound difference in 5 fish tourneys. It seems to play more luck in those tourneys, where it is pretty fun to watch the winners of the BPTs put up monster bags on those smallmouth waters, just whacking the 5lbers.

Im a big fan of the catch and release. Im also as many are a big fan of watching em catch big fish and how that happens so can we put the two things togeather? Who ever figures this format out will be the winner. I have no interest in livewell skills.

I fished Conroe yesterday for 5 hours and my best 3 were 2-1/2, 4, 6. I have no electronics.

Hey Todd general question here about what I saw fishing shallow on Conroe this weekend particularly in the back of Stowaway Marina. Alll that I saw with my glasses was buck bass 10 to 12 inches long everywhere. I saw Fry bass as well. I did see any beds or abandoned beds whatsoever. Another angler said the same thing as we talked about it. Is that possible especially with the cold snap we experienced in the Houston area a few weeks ago. Confused

I got what you meant in the first video. I understand your view on my your not into bpt really. Personally, I do like the 5 bag tournaments. I also I didn't mind watching the mlf unlimited weights. I got turned off to bpt because of all the changes every year, trying to please an audience that never was going to watch bpt. I think bass elite should go the bpt route, put Marshalls in everyone's boats, and make time periods to choose when they want to use ffs.

I would love to see them reward bonus weight to big fish. I feel like anything over 10 should get another 3 or 4 pounds added to the fishes weight. Just to give those guys some incentive to go for big ones.

You also didn't take into consideration that there was a warming trend and every bpt angler said if you are here next week it's gonna be on fire . 1 week can make a huge difference

I took it into consideration, I also talked to some BPT guys that said they were on big ones but when they heard the score tracker go off they realized they had to switch and just go after fish.

I think every bass fisherman prefers the 5 fish format and is more impressed by a big bag than catching 100 fish. But MLF is trying to make money through creating content. And drama is the #1 content. Which is why the format is all about creating close finishes and allowing for big comebacks. It’s made for TV not fishermen.

It seems like the TEAM Tourneys are struggling or affected. Listening to the Alabama Bass Trail event this Sat and they sold out their spots for both divisions in 7-8 mins .. Does Toyota or Phoenix series allow boater and co-anglers as a team when signing up ???

Connell’s best 5 went over 25 pounds in the knockout round and he didn’t make the cut. If it’s legal, they have no choice if they want to compete. It’s a shame. They have to catch 50 dinks.

It was hard to watch!! Bassmaster is way better to me. My opinion. MLF anglers kept saying my period is over so now i have to go do REAL FISHING!!!! That was wild.😂😂😂

1 period use ffs is a gimmick...every fish counts is a gimmick..zero weights gimmick....your not going to win a every fish counts without a big numbers period...5 fish even a mutiple day you got a shot...you cant win a little kids bball tournament without height not a gimmick fact...
