I've been posting videos to KZbin for a long time. 8 years at the time of this posting. In that time I've seen a lot of KZbinrs come and go. I want to be one of those KZbinrs that sticks around for a while. After all, I love this job.
That said, I think it's time to change things up a bit. So I'm putting the question to you the viewers to see what you would want to see more or less of in the future from my videos. If you're a fan of the #FairmontProject videos, don't worry, I'll still be posting those, I'm just looking for input on what else to post in addition to those videos.
Intro music by Eric Cook "ETCG1 Intro".

As someone who has built a custom hot rod, I enjoy watching you cut and fit things into your project instead of straight up dealer replacement parts. Keep giving us Fairmont videos. I realize some people want to see repairs instead of builds. I found your channel searching for alternator diagnosis a few years ago; I stayed because you have personality and are entertaining as informative. Keep up the good work.

Honestly, I like building cars so much more than fixing them. I fixed cars for 20 years, this is something similar, but new. An entirely different, but similar set of challenges. Not only that, but I have several other vehicles that I could build in my shop right now. Thanks for your input.

Personally, I'd much rather see every single little nit-picking detail in it's entirety, rather than watch it go from here to start up and miss all the in between. That's what makes the car and this project what it is. It's been an awesome adventure watching this car come together. I feel like it's, in a way, a project that belongs to all of us as a whole and connects us as an audience to you and in turn, makes this channel something more than just another repair channel. I love these videos, as well as your good old repair videos, and even the ranting videos. The quality is always up to par and the consistency in, not only quality, but also uploading times, is outstanding. In my humble opinion, you've been doing an awesome job and I hope you don't feel like it's going unnoticed!

Hi Eric. I know I won't speak for everyone, but for me, I come to your channel for repair videos which help me learn to diagnose problems and actually apply solutions. Your how to diagnose videos are great, but the repair videos actually showing it in action + the fix are better IMHO. I also love the Fixing it Forward stuff as an added element of the repair videos--your generosity and interest in giving back is admirable and it's fun to watch you put smiles on people's faces. As for the Fairmont, I am less interested but not uninterested. It's the kind of project I think I would enjoy, but my pocketbook and wife would never let me do it so I kind of live vicariously through you....and some of the difficulties and changes you've experienced make me glad it's you, not me having to do it. So the trick is how to release the vids and whether to skip. If you stick to one video per week, I would prefer only 2 Fairmont videos...but I also realize that would probably put the final Fairmont video many months after the actual completion. I don't know which would be best or maybe some option in between...but there are my two cents...

Thanks for everything Eric! I've saved thousands on labor doing my own brakes and oil changes. I'm mechanically inclined but finding good information is hard. You make the clearest step by step repair videos on you tube. I just finished the 100k service on my 4Runner on my own! Timing belt (friend helped), brakes/rotors all the way around, drive line lube , oil change, cabin and intake filters, and I actually washed it too!

I think for a lot of people, myself included, your videos are a masterful blend of education and entertainment. For some it may be a bit too familiar to keep watching more content on the same car for that entertainment value, even though it is still educational. We all enjoy variety within a certain window and we're looking forward to other cars simply on that desire for variety. I know I haven't watched all of the Fairmont videos, but my intention has been to go back and re-watch everything once the car is done. You may see that view spike once the series comes to a close.

I myself love every Friday morning waking up putting on a pot of coffee and checking up on the fairmont to-do list, I love the scheme the patience how everything never feels rushed it's only one turn of the wrench at a time. If you skipped for the meat and potatoes of it running to satisfying an audience your really watering down and short changing yourself and the material you and your camera men are capable of. The fairmont is a journey, and is journey we've come thus far on. Keep on keeping on. Camera man Brian I'm sorry for your loss as well.

Hey Eric. I don't know a whole lot about making and posting video's but i can understand it being a real balancing act to keep your viewers happy. Being a mechanic myself i don't always get much of a bang for the buck from repair video's so i enjoy the Fairmont video's. I do sometimes pick up some tips and a different way of doing things watching your repair vids. I guess all you can do is mix things up to keep the viewers interest. As far as the Fairmont goes all i can suggest is to take as long as you need to make sure it's right. A bunch of dollars to lose if you rush something to complete it. Just my 2 cents.

what do I want to see? I want the natural progression to continue, just keep them coming :) I'm slightly impatient too, but I value what Eric does and what he said about taking the time on production value and quality. editing is a lot of work, but when you have good detailed content, its worth the wait. take care Eric!

I like the Fairmont videos. They are very informative. And they show the ups and downs of building a car. I particularly enjoy seeing the things that have to be redone when changes are made. How many of us have upgraded one component on or cars only to realize other areas are in need. I prefer the build video myself. One request, when you get the Fairmont complete, please put together a package with all the videos, in order. I know I have missed some, and it would be interesting to watch them all back to back.

I watch your videos to relax and I'm not worried about the numbers. My vote is that you just follow the progress of the build and leave the numbers for paid viewers or something. I'm enjoying tuning in from time to time to watch the progress. Reminds me of one I did a long time ago and all the surprises I had. I usually binge watch your videos. Keep up the good work.

snipeish1 I agree, having more than one video a week would be great. I also think mixing up the two would be good. If you have enough content lined up it would be great to have two videos a week, one project car and one repair video. That way you keep everyone engaged each week and people can choose one, the other or both.

More Fairmont! Maybe like 3 vids per week so that we can catch up on what is currently going on and keep them long. I think an entire hour is a bit much, but I think 45min will be the perfect middle ground. There are tons of channels where they fly through the process of building the car and only focus on the end result. While that is fine for the most part, it is refreshing to see something different like what you are doing on EricTheCarGuy! Also, definitely follow the natural progression though, otherwise it will be really hard to follow what is happening with the build and why. Production quality is way better than what it was 2 years ago.

I have now done a minor engine rebuild on the original d15b7 and hopped it up a bit, dyno tune, coilovers, custom sway bars, chassis bracing, bucket seat/harness, poly bushings literally everywhere, serious weight reduction, integra steering rack, complete 99-00 si brake system, lightweight flywheel, aluminum control arms, probably forgetting some things and of course the driver mod

Hey Eric, to answer your question... My opinion is stick to the existing timeline or sequence of videos. I personally don't care if they're way behind, I just am very curious to see how such a car is built. So for me, the fact that the videos come out in a correct order is more important than on time. As to details... I don't mind the details, I enjoy them because it helps me learn more. I think the way things are going with the Fairmont videos right now is good. For a project like this I want to see the struggles we all know are going on behind the camera. Any time you get into a project like this, there are times when you have to back up and punt. Or even struggle and curse while holding your tongue just right to get something done. I know that eats up a lot of the time you have for your finished product of a video, but the dyno episode was fascinating. I've even had my eyes open on car trading sites for an old Fairmont like yours just for a fun driver. I've learned a lot from your channel over the past year or so and most of it was in the "technique" of mechanic work rather than just memorizing how certain vehicles work. And that is something more valuable than knowing a collection of facts about a small set of cars. I've seen a lot of people break stuff because they managed to muddle through a brake job on a Honda once and decided to take on something they were't prepared for. So thanks and keep up the good work.

Keep it going brother, you're putting out a lot of good info that can't really be readily found elsewhere, in an easy to follow format. I've learned a lot from your videos, be it years back when you were still in the old shop crawling around a concrete floor, or now watching the Fairmont take shape. If anything, the content has gotten better. The Fairmont is a BIG project, and a LOT of small moving parts that come together into making one thing, and the fact you're taking the time to illustrate all these points of a build is great. No one else that I can think of has such a comprehensive series on build, and a lot can be learned from this. As long as you're doing what makes you happy, and keeps you true to Eric The Car Guy, it'll be worth the watch, has been for years.

Hi Eric Some feedback: I watch all of your videos without exception. I like the fixing-old-cars-problems videos (like Fixing it forward) the most because this is where I learn all the small tips of the trade that I can use in my garage. (The "Hit-what-it-goes-through" springs to my mind as an example) The Fairmount-series is great make no mistakes about it, and I watch every episode, and learn whatever there is to learn from it, but the real quintessential (spelling?) of Eric the car guy is DIY-totorials on normal cars. For me at least. You shine the most when you teach me to bleed a caliper through the banjobolt becaurse of a broken bleedervalve :-)

Been a long time viewer of your videos, Eric. And I'm totally hooked on the Fairmont project. For my part, I think you've hit a great balance of showing the detail and process, without it being completely overwhelming. I subscribe to a couple other car repair channels on KZbin, but I'm always drawn to yours for your style. You show the challenges and teach through them and make it very real world. Other channels are so scripted and everything goes perfectly, it's like they're reading out of a dealer service manual. I have missed some of your shorter "Wednesday" tool review / quick tip videos as of late, but I've also rewatched almost all the Fairmont videos at least twice. I really do learn a lot from watching them, and enjoy seeing the whole process take shape. So I would truly be sad to see the project go away or be cut down (I'm personally super eager to see you do the wiring and interior work). But I also totally respect that you need to do what makes the the channel financially viable for you. You do a top notch production job, so I absolutely understand the time and effort it takes to make the videos. If that means a break from Fairmont, or maybe a move of the Fairmont to your premium videos for those interested, I completely understand. Though I for one certainly would like to see the project all the way to the end. Thanks!

Personally I would like to see you continue each step as it's showing the real story behind the build including set backs. This is what custom builds are all about IMO. Either way, it's been an epic build and I have no doubt the car will be a blast to drive and well worth all this work.

Just keep doing what you're doing, because I don't think you could really make it much better. I absolutely love these fairmont videos and the detail that you put into them! The more I learn from you the better, I like your videos more then I like any TV shows. Also, high quality production is something I really pay a lot of attention to. I really appreciate all of the hard work that you put into your channels, thank you and keep it up!

Eric, keep the videos coming in order for the Fairmont project. Love them all. Enjoy the in depth side of things, as a fellow Technician it is always great to see others prospective on project cars and just different ways of doing things that others like us can use and adapt to work for us. By the way, don't know a whole lot about video production but the audio and video quality are top notch considering I watch you videos exclusively on my iPhone.

I love the fairmont project so much. Even more so than your repair videos. Excited as everyone is to see it done! I have an old project car that is drivable but needs upgrading. Whatyou have done with your car is much like what I want to do with mine. I have learned a ton. Have never seen a build that is covered all aspects as you mentioned and has way more depth. Keep going in the direction you are, I want to see all aspects of this car's build. This has showed me what it would take to build my own car. One choice makes many others and co$t$. Keep up all your great work! I wished you were able to post more often on this channel than just once a week. My favorite youtube video by far is your Faimont engine dyno video!!! It was awesome and I'm not even a Ford guy!!! Keep it up, your work is appreciated. Don't worry about the amount of views over time it will be appreciated more in the future.

I think this a class project, 3 years since you had the car as well. I think you've moved on to a new Eric the car Guy, watching you learn is interesting aswell. I think you have so may different types of viewers now, but the Fairmont is about modification and youtube is flooded with it. The repair video's is what makes you, because you have a way of coming across and making it easy for new mechanics DIYers to understand. What you do is great and I'm with you whatever you do.

Keep up the good work, Eric. Obviously people want to see Fairmont race down the dragstrip, but personally I appreciate how you show everything to us. You are doing a lot here and instead of sticking to a boring script, it's a trial and error. So many things have changed since the start, you almost have enough parts for a another project car. I have only one suggestion: when you finish it, make a 1-2 hour long video about the build for the lazy ones. I bet it will bring you a lot of views.

I think your production values are some of the best on KZbin, especially since you added cameraman Bryan. Please pass along my condolences to him. As to the Fairmont...I'd say keep chugging along with the sequential videos while you finish it up and once you get it running put up a teaser video of it running to entice those who'd jump to the end. The teaser might also help draw in new viewers to the entire Fairmont catalog, too.

I like your channel because of all the knowledge I get from it, but also because I like your personality, so do it at your own pace, the way YOU would like it to be presented. I know it's also a business, so you have to try to please everyone a bit, but I feel that most of your regular audience also keep coming because of you, so keep doing things your way. I found your channel when I was looking for a particular repair on a Jeep, years ago. I'm a Jeep guy, so most of my interest is centered around old Cherokees and Wranglers, but I have enjoyed a ton of your content over the years, and the knowledge I have gained can't be quantified. I love the Fixing it Forward. And I've surprisingly enjoyed a good number of the Fairmont vids. I can't say that I've always been interested in every single one of them, but following along with it, and watching quite a number of them, has been very enjoyable. I would tend to agree with your feelings of having a logical progression to the videos. One thought, and maybe it isn't the right time, or worth the effort, but perhaps starting yet another channel, just for the builds. You KNOW you're doing something with that Mustang, so quit pretending that you haven't decided, so there's another vehicle ready to launch the new channel with. As a youtube creator myself, I know that starting another channel, and growing it to a sizable audience is a lot of work, in an of itself, plus all of the extra content needed to fill a whole separate channel, but maybe its something to ponder. It would certainly shut the naysayers up, as the build projects would be totally separate from the repair projects. Whatever you decide, I've been a subscriber/viewer for years, so I'll still be around no matter what.

I like all of the fairmont project videos -- especially the small details. I like seeing how a plan has to change from new problems along the way. Granted, that's not going to be the entire normal audience. Maybe some people would like to see an ending to the project sooner - but I'd still like to see the detail videos after that's done.

I want to see the progression and the little details. I've been wanting to rebuild/restore a 67 cougar that has no engine or trans and to take it from auto to manual and your videos have given me a lot of insight on what is needed to make that happen. Also a lot of what I've seen I have learned from and have been useful on many cars I plan to work on in the future. As far as giving views what they want you could use one channel for just the Fairmont and other builds and stuff and another for repairs reviews and etc

Eric, thanks for sharing the #FairmontProject videos! I enjoy them just as much as the repair videos as it's given me an opportunity to learn about vehicle systems that I haven't worked on before. The current pace is admittedly slow but it shows exactly what goes into hot rodding -- not like the polished productions you see on TV making it look as simple as snapping fingers to finish it. It also got me kicking around an idea about doing something similar with an early 80s Granada that I have a line on... especially since I've heard that the Granada with it's Thiftpower 6 has the most anemic acceleration of all time (possibly same engine as what your Fairmont came with!).

Love the videos Eric keep up the good work. My advice if you are losing viewers would probably be the lack of repair videos. I'm sure that is a huge part of your following. As far as my Opinion? I love the Fairmont vids. My only complaint would be how far behind we are. I'd like to see more time editing keeping the current strategy as far as timelinearly but try and release two videos at a time to try and get the viewer caught up. I'll be watching regardless and special thanks to the 8.8 video and the t5 stuff that really really educated me well.

I like the Fairmont project, and curious to see it up and running, but no particular rush to see it done. It's a project, it can go on forever. :D What I'd like to see is a diesel car being worked on. And maybe an older car too, like something from the 50s or 60s. And I really like the way your videos are edited. It's pretty much real time, and especially the difficulties encountered are educational, like recently the Ford Contour alternator swap. That's precisely what DIYers encounter a lot, thing being way more difficult than anticipated or things just plain going wrong.
