Dr. Darryl Wells of the Swedish Heart and Vascular Institute talks about why it's difficult to predict which patients will be completely cured after one ablation procedure and why some require two procedures. Dr. Wells also talks about the appropriate age range for patients who receive the ablation procedure. For more about atrial fibrillation and catheter ablation procedures visit www.swedish.org....

I just had mine on aug,1st 2023 so 5 days ago. I couldn't go back to work and still havent but that's because I'm taking it really easy. I don't want to have a second surgery. I haven't been able to workout at all in 4 years because of this. Any straining activities would send me into afib. It got so bad that if the smallest thing was off with my body ,id have afib. A cold. Afib. Dehydrated, afib. Sometimes just the act of lifting or pulling would do it. I never want to deal with that again. I was terrified to have this procedure done. But I'm so glad i did. I give god all the glory. He created my surgeon. Helped him thro medical school ,and sent me to him. I'm grateful for my surgeon and the entire team. If you have any questions feel free to ask. I'll try to respond quickly. God bless, i know its scary but its worth it and I'm the most anxious person i know if that helps. I was trembling just talking about the surgery. Good luck. Your going to be okay ❤

Hey everyone. I am 35 years old male with no underlying conditions. I am not overweight and i do not drink alcohol nor do i smoke. I had my Ablation done the 4th of november 2022 as i had Paroxysmal Afib for over the last 5 years. I used to have about 3/5 episodes the first 3 years, those took about an average of 3 to 5 hours with an irregular heart rate of 150bpm. The last 2 years they happened a lot more frequently like 15 times a year but only with a heart rate of 110. So i decided to have an Catheter Ablation. So Ihad my Ablation done the 4th of november 2022. I was put in at 08.30 and they put me under general anesthesia. I got back to my room at about 12:00 in the afternoon so it took them about 3 hours to do the procedure. When I woke up the first hour I was very confused and disoriented. I couldn't find my right balance mentally so they gave me some IV to calm down and also some premperim. I had panic attacks and couldn't sleep for the first 3 nights. First night particular was awful because I had issues breathing and catching my breath. I believe it was one of the longest nights of my life. The day after I was able to get home in the afternoon around 12:00 but during the day I again had some panic attacks and also was unable to sleep. Last night was ok but i noticed few small eptic heartbeats which put me on edge. My bruising at my groin is healing well and all together didn't really bother me that much. What bothers me the most i must say is that i have a constant heart rate of anywhere between 85 and 100 where before i had the ablation done i had it between 60 and 70. Is this normal you reckon and will this go down again? I was guessing it is the inflammation of the scarring of the heart. Should i perhaps take Ibuprofen? Before the procedure i was taking 1 pill of Bisoprolol 2.5 in the evening and 2 pills of Flecainide, 1 in the morning and 1 in the evening. I have to keep taking this for the next 3 months the specialists say. At the time of writing this I am undergoing since half an hour and arrhythmia which is not a regular but every 10 heartbeats I have one that skips with a heart rate of 100 so I am a little bit worried of course. I really hope this will get over soon. Thank you for taking your time to read this and hopefully you could tell me if you reckon my heart rate is normal at this stage and if it will go down in the future.

I am 35 and I underwent my 1st ablation in October and about 3-4 months later I started getting afib flare ups. So my EP decided I would need another ablation except this time we did a Cyro-Ablation instead of an RF ablation. The 2nd procedure was definitely alot different. I felt like I had really been worked on alot more and the recovery time to feel completely normal took longer. I am glad I had my 2nd and I'm glad it was a Cyro. Upon clearing the blanking/healing period of 3 months I now have not had any afib flare ups and that is with really testing my heart out good. I hope I continue to experience these great results. I hope others can benefit from the same types of procedures. Yes, diet and exercise are vital to anyone's well being certainly those with a disease such as afib, but diet and exercise alone will not fix afib. Sometimes you need to intervene to correct afib.

Tyler...I had an ablation nearly 7 years ago and am a very competitive cyclist and gym user,i am a very fit 58 year old,i have been fine for 6 years but had 3 attacks in 9 months and all the attacks came at night after binge drinking! I have just had a second ablation on 5th dec 18 and was a cryo ablation of which they ablated 2 small areas that were playing up.It went really well,i have a really bruised groin but so much better than the first one of which it took me 2 week of really scary palpitations and various rhythms to subside! This time i am 100% ok after 1 day....They say that you will need a second ablation and possibly a third to keep a/fib at bay its just if you have a/fib you will always have it at some stage....Diet and exercise and not binge drinking are a must to look after yourself,by all means have a drink but dont de-hydrate as if you are prone to getting a/fib this will cause it to happen!

I had an ablation 7 days ago & unintentionally went into a-fib during the procedure. The surgeon gave me a high voltage cardioversion according to the hospital nurse ( they decided to keep me overnight.) Nurse said it was high voltage compared to what is normally used these days. I am wondering if pain is normal after 7 days. Ive been reporting my pain to the surgeon's n.p. & am supposed to follow up & tell her how im doing Monday which is the 8th day. My chest is feeling better but still hurts to lie down all the way or bend over. Is this normal after high voltage cardioversion or should i be concerned the ablation surgery is having complications? Has anyone else had pain ( it is lessening slowly) after a week?

I had my cardiac ablation 10 days ago. Every single task I do seems a huge effort since I had this procedure. Just from dressing up my heart rate goes up to 140 beats . I was wondering if this is normal … called back the dr that advised me to go to my general practitioner to discuss as the surgery was successful and there is nothing they can do. I’m not happy with how I feel , after I heard so many people saying that it’s a life changing … I don’t really feel that but struggling more after the procedure .

@@felicienbenoit890 hello mate, i had my ablation on the 3rd of december, i was worrying so much thinking that the worst would happen but it didn’t i was worrying over nothing 2 months later i feel better and healthier than ever, i am running regularly now and keeping fit. you have nothing to worry about during the ablation i was kept awake for mine but i barely remember it and the parts i remember are only looking at the roof. however when they were burning inside my heart i felt the burn but i promise you it was no worse than heart burn that you’d have after a spicey curry honestly and it lasted for at most 3 seconds. please do not worry about this and if you have any further questions please reply to me .

Yes I had an ablation not quite 4 weeks ago and find it difficult to take a deep breath , it's like what you say some kind of inflammation from the procedure , here is what I found . " because traditional ablations use heat or cold to create scar tissue , the biggest risk is collateral damage to the surrounding area , such as the esophagus or heart tissue. How are you doing at a year out . ?
