True that, it was Romanov. I remember at the time I wasn't really happy about that. Outside of Matteson and Guhle, I don't see another LHD with similar value.

As Arpon has said before the so called " 11:07 Noticable drop" doesn't mean much. It means that we can take flyers (Mesar, Sherback etc and hope.(ie Dallas) Or we can look for those "unicorns" like Beaudoin, Surin (and others. When we have dominant 3rd & 4th liners...we will dominate.

Surin is the one we want can score pass plays 200 foot game hits like crazy and can fight too. Guys like him never give up

What about moving from 5 to 9, give anderson (ridding themselves from this contract) and 5th for 9th. I think from 4 to 9 these players are interchangeable and calgary would secure iginla. Discussion we're having between friends hehe cheers

Does anybody think Surin will still be around at 26. If not trade #26 and a player to move up 5 shouldn’t cost to much. surin is one those guys super hard to play against. We need guys like him.

LeBrun's piece on Necas today pointed out that he was in potential deals for Mat Tkachuk and EP40. Carolina want an impact player in return if he is moved. Montreal does not have that to offer right now.

The Jersey pick can be had - they want to compete now and so would trade for an NHL ready or close player.

I could see a “dach like trade” again trading the puck with a young dman (was Romanov for dach) to get a player maybe 23-26 years old. Weather they trade the dman and pic for a player directly or get a better asset then add to that to get a top six forward. My front runners would be dawson Mercer, Nik ehlers, or Martin necas.

Canadiens don't seem to have the amateur scouting staff to draft quality players late in the first round or even later in subsequent rounds - like Point, Johnstone, Robertson, Pastrnak, Kucherov or Marchand.......just to name a few.

Though I like the idea of parting ways with Gally, You don’t need the cap space this yr, No one will take Gally for 3 yrs, unless we retain salary, better option , wait a yr and buy him out, one of the mistakes the leafs made was trading marleau with a number one, who turned out to be Jarvis.

Habs pick has a chance at being a top 12. The Flames are going into tank mode next season, and will make sure they are in the bottom 10 so that they dont have to give to Habs. Instead we will get Floridas 1st rounder (owned by Calgary). Which most likely will be very high (26-32)

I don't understand why it's the 26th pick. The Jets were eliminated in the first round. That's picks 17-24 as far as I can tell and I've seen no notation to explain further. Please explain.

Jets are in the category 3. 1-The teams that did not qualify for the playoffs the previous season (picks 1-16) 2-The teams that made the playoffs in the previous season but did not win either their division in the regular season or play in the Conference Finals (picks 17-24 up to 28) 3-The teams that won their divisions in the previous season but did not play in the Conference Finals (potentially picks 25-28) 4-The teams that lose in Conference Finals (picks 29 and 30) 5-The team that was the runner-up in the Stanley Cup Finals (pick 31) 6-The team that won the Stanley Cup in the previous season (pick 32)

Note, the Star traded down from 22nd, not 26th. And also, they traded down in the covid draft year when the waters were murkier, so they may have thought they could get a gem at 22nd that scouts would miss due to not enough viewing during covid.

Take on Rickard Rakell. I'd think Pittsburgh would throw you some draft capital to get him off the books and there's always the chance he could be useful. Also, there's no given year where buying out his contract looks horrible.
