We know they're going to be the Utah Somethings, and I've been reading a lot of joke comments about Mormonism, but this is a serious franchise, supposedly, so I'd say go with whatever the state animal is or if there's a prominent college team that has a long running name, that could work. The Canucks got their name from the local IHL team I believe (I wish they'd kept their logo), and I think in Utah that's the Grizzlies, so I'm sure Utahans would be up for that. I'd be interested to see what fan interest is there, because it's one thing to drop a franchise into a big market with corporate support, but if the building is going to be 1/3-1/2 empty, it really doesn't matter. I'd be looking at Vegas for marketing tips because whatever they did in a supposedly non hockey market definitely worked. Obviously, having a team that went to the Finals their first year and a team built exceedingly well really helped in the case of the Knights, but if they can manage to have a bit of success early on and they market the team well, rallying the community behind the team, it could work. Marketing is everything. Clearly, it's tougher in a region that doesn't get snow, but not impossible. Give people a competitive product to cheer for. There are some good young players there and with the right management decisions in the offseason, you never know. Anything was better than all those years in Arizona where the team was awful and the fans didn't care.
