I would also like to add start speaking as soon as possible even if it’s just simple expression or phrases. Try using new words you learned in sentences. Your bound to make mistakes but eventually it will start to click and you will be able to talk and communicate enough to hold conversations.

Your outfit looks so put-together! Your glasses and striped sweater blend nicely. The higher neckline looks really flattering, too! And of course, thank you as always for the helpful language tips!! Been following your channel for several years now. 😍💕

Not only should you be focusing on high frequency words, but also phrases. You touched on this by mentioning learning greetings, but this goes for pretty much every other high frequency phrase as well. Not much use to learn the words "what", "how", "is", "are", etc if you don't know how to fit them in a phrase correctly. "How are your name?" would be a plausible mistake if you were only focusing on vocab.

Another really good tip for starting to learn a language is to learn the pronunciation of the language first so you can match the written form of a word to the spoken form of the word more easily and you’ll be less likely to think one word is two different words. For example, say you sounded out a word differently than it’s supposed to be pronounced and when you heard someone else say that word in the correct pronunciation, you thought it was a completely different word. Or vice versa when you hear someone say a word and imagine it spelled one way when it’s actually spelled differently. I heard this tip from another KZbin video and it’s helped me so much!

Some written languages don’t work in that way, though. In Japanese they use kanji characters, and you can’t spell out unknown words in your head with those, like you would with the Roman alphabet.

Well, it's not for everyone. I for example cannot learn something if i don't understand it. I generally go through grammar book quite fast (no exersices) with absolutely zero vocabulary and then just use language by translating every word (no sentences, only words) if needed. I find learning vocabulary useless because it is something you will eventually learn naturally, without dedicated time for studying. This method has quite slow start since you are able to "communicate" later but gives solid result. Most of the people around me learn by just learning words and speaking, they can talk much faster but their progress is just increadibely slow after they are able to understand someone and somehow convey their message. For example i came to Netherlands and started to study Dutch about 3 weeks ago, i finished grammar book yesterday, udnerstand only basic dutch but can't speak for now (though while studying grammar i did remember about 300-400 words). My brother lives in here for 6-7 month, he studied only words and looked up few videos online. He does speak with Dutch but even i with my little study hear how poor his language is. He doesn't use future tense and he talks about past only in present perfect but don't use "zijn" or "hebben" (so he only adds verb in past participle). And it is after 7 month. . In fact i didn't study grammar for English (except long time ago in school but i was bad at it) and i feel like my English is the worst of all of my languages even though i know it much longer than others. I did learn few tenses for English but that's all.
