Absolutely enjoy your videos and appreciate the knowledge you share. I will be starting on my own house this spring. My logs are currently wrapped and stacked at my local sawmill....can't wait to get them to my property after the snow melts and pick the best ones

Great content, as always, Noah. Can we possibly get a walk-around video of your outbuilding? I haven't seen it in some time and I'd love to see it's current state. Also, am I seeing a missing slate on it in your video above? I'm wondering if a tree fell down on the roof and knocked one out of place. Thanks.
@HandmadeHouseswithNoahBradley3 жыл бұрын
Thank you gsp. I will do a walk around eventually. The slate cracked off at some point, so yes, it needs to be replaced.

In Florida I need a grade stamp on structural logs. Found a place called Timber Products that will come do it.

7:53 Roughly R1.4 per inch if it's a soft wood and roughly R0.7 per inch if one of the hardwoods. I didn't dig into specifics, but that's the values at a quick glance.

Pretty much, and then there is the whole aspect of "thermal mass" that doesn't always get considered...

@@HandmadeHouseswithNoahBradley Would Poplar be a good wood for a log cabin? Would I need a different species for my first course such as oak or ???? Thanks

What do you think of the Japanese shou sugi ban method of making wood pest/rot resistant? It can also have a very appealing look.
@HandmadeHouseswithNoahBradley3 жыл бұрын
It is clearly a proven and effective method, but not something I would recommend for a cabin.

Why not logs cut on four sides, as in 6 x 12 inch

Why are all your cabins made from hewn logs? Never any round logs with saddle notches which were most prevalent in many parts of the country.
@HortonHomestead11 ай бұрын
When you hew logs you remove the sap wood making a longer lasting structure. Also v and half dovetails are just beautiful. The most common cabin was most likely those made by cabineers and the made horrible quality just good enough to qualify for a home so they could claim land. The hewn log dovetail cabin is the pinnacle of American log structures in both style and craftsmanship.

Noah, in two or three years of following your channel I have yet to see you with a tool in your hand or producing a single thing. I enjoy the monologue which is why I keep tuning in, but I'm starting to wonder if you plan on actually building anything. Too much arm chair lecture, not enough example.
@HandmadeHouseswithNoahBradley3 жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoy the monologues. I sweat for audience to show the how-tos in the Academies...
@jybuis39393 жыл бұрын
@@HandmadeHouseswithNoahBradley But you haven't shared any evidence that you've actually built anything in recent memory. Okay, correction there was the stone gate post, but what else? I don't begrudge you for holding back on free content, but I'm not seeing any evidence that would make me want to sign up for your 'academies'.
@HandmadeHouseswithNoahBradley3 жыл бұрын
@@jybuis3939 Stone gate posts, fireplace facade, mini-log cabin, its chinking, slate roof, door trim, saw horses, stone masons table...mostly small projects for the moment, which appear in full or in part on KZbin. I also shared some footage of a recent cabin repair/restoration for a client.... I would like to be much further along on my home build, but with life being what it is, that project's pace has been at a snail's pace. Wishing you all the best in your quest for the knowledge you seek, whether you find it here or elsewhere.

Wow...pretty disrespectful comment. You follow for three years but won't give Noah a dime for the content? Why do you keep coming back if you think he's lying about his experience? If you think he has experience, shill out. If you don't, don't keep coming back. QED.
