Here’s a basic look at why that’s a tough question and why answers vary. Using my jeeps with different setups as an example of different fitment issues that arise.

I've owned many CJs. Just got an 03 grand Cherokee by chance and I'm surprised how much I like it. Guess I'm getting old. What blows my mind is watching these things in the tough truck vids. How in the hell a Dana 30 or whatevers in the front of these things handles 4ft of air and continues to drive is a testiment to how well they handle abuse. I enjoy hearing info from someone I can tell knows. Thanks.

Fantastic video. I have a WJ with a 3" lift that I ran wrangler takeoffs for quite awhile. Now I run 265/70r17s on a 17x9 with I think 4.5" BS. Had to cut a little off the back of the front wheel well when I first put them on and Baja the front bumper. But, now I'm looking to fully cut and tuck all my fenders to step up to 285s on my next set of tires. I guess I'm trying to get the most out of my Jeep without going down the rabbit hole of a long arm kit etc.

I’ve found 4.25” backspace on 8 wide wheels to be ideal for a 12.5 wide tire. It’s the kosher ground on being far enough out to clear but not to far to sweep front and back. I find the bushwacker flares pretty minimal trimming for my liking but on a 33 should be adequate

I typically do my own work ,but with the parts I was needing to replace I just didnt have the proper equipment for the job..lift being one . Anyway one of the new mods is the 2 inch budget lift front and back, and also 1 inch spacers for more aggressive look. The problem now is that the tires that are on it now are LT 225/75/R16. And now with the lift ofcourse they're looking too small and goofy. I'd like to go a size upit Hope's to fill in the empty space and for more aggressive look. I would really like the either the BF Goodrench AT, or even better The General Tire Grabbers x3. I had this same set up, same jeep, different one but same. Anyway the tire shop figured out what would fit. I only had a slight rub in the front fenders which was an easy grind down job with no further issue's. Problem is that was 15 maybe 20 years ago and I cant remember the size🤦🏼‍♂️. I'm more psyched about the General Grabbers because of the more aggressive look and seem more rounded if that makes sense..? Now in my mind the mechanic whose been working on my jeep should know the answers or atleast be able to figure it out....well it's been put on my shoulders to figure out and in complete lost. My jeep is done and ready to go except for the tire situation. So I could have gotten back a week ago if not for this,but it is what it is. So if ANYONE COULD PLEASE HELP ME AND PUT ME OUT OF MY MISERY IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!! ALSO IF YOU HAVE ANY BETTER IDEAS FOR TIRES YOU THINK WOULD WORK AND LOOK BETTER I AM MORE THAN OPEN TO ANY IDEAS! SO again what I have on now are LT 225/75/r16 and I'm just looking to go a size bigger to fill in the wheel wells better. Thank you in advance! @@immelting9834 Still havent put larger tires yet. I have a 3" iron rock lift, going to put 3/8" spacer in the rear. I trimmed the front fenders and the rear I did piecuts. I then installed 1.25" hubcentric spacers. I dont see why the 33s wouldnt fit. Once I get a little more miles out of my current 32s I am going to upgrade.

@@tylerdubois9020 I'm on 285/70/17 ( 32.8 x 11.3 ) with iron rock link long arms front and rear. 1.25 spacers . I'm at exactly 3.5 inches of lift with me , wife and camping gear, hidden winch synthetic rope. hacked up Stock bumpers ( less weight than heavy ass steel bumpers) . I cut and folded my front , then used a fender roller ( Eastwood) and rolled it all nice and was even able to " flare" it out a little.the rear was cut a little folded and JB welded the 2 rear fenders together. I have no rubbing.

Hey there..i have 2000 Jeep wj laredo with 2 inch lift kit from iron man.. it has tires size 245 70 r16...if i install bigger tires like 255 75 r16 will these tires incrase the height of my car? If the answer is yes, can you please tell me how much will increasing in inches...and if the answer is No.. can i add 1 inch spacers on it? Because i want to go on trip crosing about 6000 km in 2 months on my wj, will my car be good on highways?... and thank you🖤

I know this is late but i figured you could benefit from hearing a response. A lift kit will increase the lift the vehicle's clearance, however will not raise the height of the differential's and axles. Lift kits also allow an increase in tire sizes, as well as articulation (ability for the vehicle to flex when going over obstacles). A 245/70/R16 tire is approximately 29.5" tall. A 255/75/R16 tire is a 31" tire. So while the tire's overall height is going to increase by 1.5", the vehicle's height (and differential/axle height)will only go up by half, so .75". However, increasing your tire size will also lead to a larger 'footprint' for traction and ability to grip obstacles and terrain. On the WJ, you should be fine running up to a 31" tire without needing to regear the diff's, but keep in mind that you are suggested to re-gear the differentials to be able to turn the larger tires with less strain. things will get expensive quick.

Hey can i fit 35’s on 4 inch lift kit with bushwhackers fanders?

Bushwackers don’t cut enough. Look at my red one or project lay z boy on my channel. You’ll want close to that much cutting to get 35’s on, you won’t need the full tub I did in the rear.

Generally every Jeep SUV "not counting the 4 door wranglers" except the widetrack FSJ's cant fit much bigger than 31-33 inch tires without rubbing stuff and needing to go to huge lifts and doing crazy things like cutting the body of the vehicle.. this means the wagoneers and grand wagoneers, and all the grand cherokee's will have rubbing with tires 33 inchs or bigger. I think once you start getting into needing to cut the vehicle and hack it, you get into territory that makes things a little too trashy for me
@Scoobienorth
@Scoobienorth 3 жыл бұрын
Fair enough. Cutting isn’t for everyone. Where I live we get a lot of snow and tire size rules, on my 255’s I can’t go into the back country 6-7 months of the year. A wider 33 would allow me another month maybe 2. 37’s I can run 10 months of the year

This is tough to answer, they aren’t known for being very tough, and 20 years ago I probably would have broken everything in short order on 33’s, that being said my big one was/is mostly stock on 37’s and done well, the d35 rear made 4 years of hard wheeling, 2 of those on 36-37” tires. If you are smooth driver you can wheel pretty hard on 33-35 tires on a stock wj

@@jeffreystine7068 a 285 is a tough fit, stock about all you will fit is a 31” tire max and you’ll need some trimming. 32 with more trimming, ideally you’ll want about 4.25-4.5” backspace on the rims. Stock wrangler wheels like my white one fit though and easy enough to fit

All these Jeeps ride so hard. Bigger tires might help but I’d think you’d need 35+ to make a difference and by then you’d probably need a bunch of suspension mods or drivetrain Meh
@Scoobienorth
@Scoobienorth 2 жыл бұрын
My white one rides pretty decent. If you drive them to kill them, you’ll succeed but they take a fair bit of punishment and work really well for the money. The triangulated rear suspension in the wj helps the ride a lot and the grands seem to be balanced better than the wrangler or maybe it’s the weight further back behind the rear axle on the overhang that helps.
