Hi there what is 10/12 gauge in metric please. Because I have to wire up a well pump. Also what gauge would I use for a 1/2hp water pump. Glad I found you 👍👍

I have a Goulds J10S 1HP pump. It says 115/230v on it. Amazon shows it being 220v. So this would take 10awg? My pumps are hardwired and don't have a starter thing like that. But I have a weird system where I have a 1hp pump with wheels that pushes or pulls air (not sure which) in a tube that forces water up into a cistern. From the cistern there is a check valve on the way to the jet pump. Pipes come out the top of the jet pump and go to the pressure tank. In my system, the switch for jet pump is mounted directly on the pump. As to the other pump that fills the cistern, it uses a D-switch float lever. Has an arm coming out and a rod goes through vertically with a float. Water drop makes rod go down and trigger pump to turn on. Water up pushes the arm and it shuts the pump off. It is also 115/230v and 1HP.

If I have a 400' deep well with a submersible pump what would be my maximum wire length in 10/3 wire? 400' well + buried wire from well to regulator. Thanks

It depends on the horsepower of the pump. Running a 1hp pump on 10-3awg, the maximum distance is gonna be a little over 600ft. Using a 1.5hp pump that distance will be a little shorter.

I live in Florida. I've never run less than a 10 wire from the panel to the pressure switch

Also depends on the static water level / drawdown level when being run.@@BradCampbell-kb6im

I bought a house with a well pump here already no idea how deep it is but it draws 9amps what size pump is that?

Probably a 1hp.

Is that starter acrtually needed? Is it just like a soft start?

I don't know about his system, but my system does not have a starter. So, it does not seem necessary. I don't know if what he has is a soft starter. Hoping he will answer. My system has wires going directly to the switches for the pumps (have one to fill a cistern from the well and another to pump water out of the cistern). both use D-switches. One is a float switch though.

@@catsmeow5566 What I've been learning is that some pumps have 2 wires (plus ground) and do not have the control box above ground because the capacitors and relays which would be in there are all built directly into the pump itself. Others use 3 wires (plus ground) and use that control box to house the starting and running capacitors and some other stuff like that. The ones that are built in apparently use a type of hardware that tends to fail less often, but the ones in the external box are obviously much easier to replace.

@@in_my_bible This is correct. The reason for the starting coil is 'flick' the AC motor into rotation so the main coils can take over. In this case the capacitor shifts phase in the starting wire to allow for this.

Is that disconnect a 20amp or 30?
@conquerallelectrical3 ай бұрын
up to 60 amp the breaker is limiting it to 20 amp the disconnect is just for service

Can you put 10/2 wire on a 20 amp breaker.

My well went out I ordered a 1hp to replace my 3/4hp I read that if your deeper than 112 ft u run a 20/40 switch so I installed a new one my breaker keeps tripping so I looked it say for 1hp use 25 amp I currently have a 20 amp I am changing the breaker tomorrow hope it fixes my problem if not I am thinking I have a burnt wire from the house to the well house if anyone has any input please let me know if I am going wrong somehow thanks

Breaker could be bad or you have a short.

too much electric jargon talk to understand for a newbie to understand what wires he is talking about
