@Oceanmachine27 I'm thinking its because to be funny in a social situation one typically needs to dominate the conversation for at least a short period of time and needs to be confident, and control and confidence are typically seen as masculine traits. I always appreciate evolutionary reasoning though, so good job. I think Christopher Hitches did an piece on why (as he claims) women aren't funny. I haven't read the article though.

@SpazzyMcGee1337 Well, there's some talk about "humor" being an essentially masculine characteristic, designed to impress the ladies with your quick-witted brain and eye for the absurd, so I suppose you could make a case for that. (I don't necessarily believe it, myself, but I think it bears discussing).
