When I get asked what does NDI do? My answer is what doesn't it do... I keep finding new ways to use it. The router is amazing to have some more switching and routing and was a game changer when i realized what it was in the tools. We are using the test pattern generator to have static logos available accross the network. Another great piece of Newtek software I recommend adding to your arsenal is Newtek Connect... It allows you you to encode local video sources on a PC to NDI or you can re encode NDI sources from the network with a different audio feed. The possibilities are endless.

Yes, and now the audio NDI aspect adds even more flexibility. I have a very basic introductory tutorial coming up.

@@StreamTeknology it's incredible how much flexibility it adds. I have used the NDI webcam to get audio from one place to another to feed a laptop for closed captioning in a pinch. Wouldn't have been easy to do otherwise

I'm always excited about NDI and actually enthusiastic about how Wi-Fi 7 could pave way for full NDI over Wi-Fi, especially when all devices could be connected to 5Ghz and 6Ghz spectrums.

I have been suggesting to some companies, like Birddog, to make WiFi 6, camera top encoders, like the blue-antenna Spark of old. but they're just not considering it. Only Kiloview I think has a stand, alone HX video encoder with wireless capability

Great video! I didn’t catch the modem/router you were using. I seen it, but wanted to get more details. I was always told my NDI had to be hooked up or connected to an isp in order to work. It would be huge to be able to use this system anywhere without having to use the on site internet seeing most times it slow

For one or two sources, or low bitrate HX, most any good Gigabit router will do. NDI has nothing to do with the internet, it is a local communications protocol across the local area network. I have a new video coming out that explains the core advantages a bit better, and includes new information on HX3. If you plan on a LOT of NDI sources going back and forth, then Netgear has made switches that specifically understand NDI traffic. And you _can_ send NDI over the internet to different locations with NDI bridge, and Birddog also has a solution called Birddog Cloud, but those are for those specific "across the internet" needs. Otherwise, it's pretty much assumed that NDI is using existing local area network (LAN) infrastructure, or using its own dedicated LAN where NDI is the only traffic on there.

the one thing i’d love to know is why some tools are pc only and not on mac? is it a gpu issue?
@StreamTeknology
@StreamTeknology Ай бұрын
Because that's what the authors choose to do. There are some apps that are Mac only. Some PC only. Generally because the development, and Support!!!, teams are smaller and choose to focus on one platform rather than get stretched to thin

Question, I can add my phone cia NDI to my streaming device, I try this and works. But I want to know is there some camcorders or mirroles camera that can go wifi thru NDI to my streaming device?
@StreamTeknology
@StreamTeknology 7 ай бұрын
There are several camcorders with NDI built-in now, like the Panasonic 350 I mention in the video, and small wireless solutions like the Mevo Start amzn.to/3U36WiB and the Obsbot Tail Air amzn.to/4aYvHCF if you're looking for a PTZ camera.

"powered over NDI" NDI is a video protocol. It DOES NOT provide power. That would be PoE. I can see this is not going to be balanced, accurate. I have not got through the whole video but will latency be addressed? Seeing he's using many Newtek products and they've not been honest about their latency in the past, from my experience. I'm not holding out hope here. Oh look, a demo of the MDI tax. And yet another tracking system. Don't have that with SDI!
@StreamTeknology
@StreamTeknology 7 ай бұрын
You are correct, NDI does not provide power, but often NDI devices are also PoE devices and the two go together A LOT, so in my excitement, I did misspeak. Latency is not just dependent on the device, but also the type of NDI - Full NDI, HX1, HX2, HX3, H.264 based, H 265-based, user settings, network topology, different brands, software encoding, hardware encoding, and even the same devices may have different latency set side by side to each other. I do ask that you reserve that "this is not going to be balanced, accurate" since you say you hadn't even watched it yet. It's an overview, and it's an encore presentation of an overview I did years ago, and a lot has advanced since then, so I'm working on a new one. But as the channel is starting out, I ask a little generosity in your assessment of a video you say you haven't even watched yet.

As an IT professional with over 10 years in tech and church media, I was fortunate to be an early adopter of NDI together with vMix and I can tell you that latency is hardly an issue with proper planning and setup.

@@AyoolaBoyejo even with image mag?
@AyoolaBoyejo
@AyoolaBoyejo 7 ай бұрын
@@glynnetolar4423 Nah, the requirement for iMag is always different even when you are not using NDI. My production workflow/setup always involves a separate mix, director and cameras (which are mostly medium and close shots). This is not to say that NDI has bad latency but iMag requires a near-real time feed that even some hardware-based switching systems struggle with. The main mix often requires multiple layers of feeds (Animation, lower thirds, CC, cameras, screen capture) and they all come through NDI with the final mix recorded locally in intermediate codec (for post-production), streamed and also sent to overflow. It's simply amazing. iMag on the other hand involves a few cameras with no need for recording or streaming, but the cameras, mixer, cabling, screen and every component involved must be carefully chosen to ensure a real-time feed.
@AyoolaBoyejo
@AyoolaBoyejo 7 ай бұрын
@@glynnetolar4423 In my opinion iMag always calls for specialized components even when using hardware-based switching. This is because of the near real-time expectation that must be met. My setup always has an isolated workflow for iMag. That's separate cameras (mostly medium, close and extreme close shots), switching console, comms, cabling, LED panels and director. The main setup often involves multiple layers of feed (cameras, screen capture, VFX and Lower Thirds), which are all sent via NDI with the final mix recorded locally in intermediate codec (for post-production), streamed to KZbin and also sent to overflow rooms. It's just amazing being able to do all of this over ethernet. iMag on the other hand is not recorded, just basic switching and that's all. The more processing involves the higher the delay/latency introduced. In short, I will not compare iMag with NDI. They have different requirements because they are meant for different purposes.
