He IS a powerful singer, but you also need the words. SOS is such a cry of desperation and Dimash's rendering of this song is totally, absolutely and perfectly in accordance with Michel Berger's music and Luc Plamondon's lyrics. When you align great composer, lyricist and singer, it gives you this. I can only imagine what "Starmania" would be if Dimash played the part of Johnny Rockfort.

Ha ha - you just got dimashed- it is sort of like getting hit/smashed by the amazing voice that is Dimash. I always love the first ever reactions as the expression on the face change from normal nothing to see here look to utter delicious unbelief. This face expression is like getting your very first kiss or maybe finding out that you can fly and have supernatural powers or something. It is an unrepeatable expression. Since I could only have my first reaction ONCE only i love watching these to relive that moment again vicariously thru others. When I first heard SOS it blew my mind and that feeling was over too quick. So I go looking for these reactions in the way people try to relive that honeymoon period when you first fell in love ever. There is nothing like a first-time reaction to Dimash. Yours is great because of how openly you displayed your shock and amazement- completely warranted when hearing him sing. A more recent live version of this song was my intro to him, and that performance is even better. And I actually say “hold the phone” in my own life, and when you hear him sing it’s definitely time for that.

Dimash was 22 years old when he did this performance. It was in the Chinese TV singing contest I Am Singer (aka The Singer) in 2017. He is from Kazakhstan and was invited on to the show as a wild card because normally only professional Chinese singers can compete. They knew he'd won a few awards but they didn't really know what he could do or how good he was, so they put him on as the first singer in Episode one, which is where they would normally put the weakest singers. Then they can get knocked out fairly quickly by the rest of the artists. He walked on, this skinny unassuming young man, opened his mouth and that incredible art flowed out. There was total and utter shock behind the stage, in the audience and in the orchestra. Every week he came on stage and blew everyone away with his astounding talent, range, vocal dynamics, breath control and power. Although he didn't win the contest (he lost by a couple of points), the Chinese people fell in love with him and a star was born. He stayed in China for the next few years working in multiple fields such as films, adverts, TV shows, modelling, singing for theme tunes, video games, at Gala performances etc, and has since become a world wide phenomenon. He is 28 years old now, his voice has matured even further and he has a deep seated passion for helping humanity which comes out in his songs and in his actions. He has become known as an 'Ambassador for Peace'. A beautiful voice and a beautiful person, one who is well worth getting to know better. One song is not enough. Never enough. Lol, I did the same. This is the first song I heard of his and I'm a singer so I should know better, but to this day, I STILL hold my breath when Dimash sings. It doesn't seem to matter what genre he's singing in, his interpretation and vocal control just make you wanna say, "SHHHHHHHHH!!" to anyone making noise near you. And seriously this started his career but he has only gotten better as hard as it is to imagine. I subscribed expecting you to dive down the rabbit hole because missing out on him is your loss. It took me so long to get through the entire song. 😂 I had to go grab my 11 year daughter and bring her into my room to watch and listen to him and I replayed this same video for the rest of the evening. I now listen to him every single day since. ❤️ His voice and message will change the world. He is a treasure and we are so fortunate to be alive right now and witness him and everything he will do. As background, Dimash was only 22 years old when he opened and won the very first episode of the I Am Singer Chinese show in 2017 with this performance of SOS - a showcase competition for well known, professional Chinese singers, with a voting audience of 500 people from the music industry. Dimash was the youngest and the first foreigner ever to be invited on the show (as a wildcard) and, as a total unknown in China, he wasn’t expected to last more than half the show. He astonished everyone, came second in the competition, an overnight sensation in China (600 million views of this performance) and a global phenomenon. Dimash is university trained in classical (bel canto) and contemporary music and has been training (voice and piano) since he was 5 years old. He has degrees in voice (classical), contemporary music, completed a Masters in composition and is currently completing a PhD in musicology. He was offered a position with Astana Opera but declined to follow a career in contemporary music, mixing classical elements and traditional Kazakh music with pop music.He continues to train every day - either with a voice teacher or self trains. Dimash studied vocals from the age of five, graduated from the academy in the class of classical and modern vocals, can sing in twelve languages, plays six musical instruments. And this was 5 YEARS AGO! Wait till you hear him now. He has done this song numerous times and you can see the refinement. He improves on perfection. The first artist that sounds the same in studio or live. And truly no 2 songs are the same. He is currently in LA and working with a famous music producer who has worked with ADELE among others. Yes, I fell in love with his voice the first time I heard him, as well. He is a treasure to us Dears. Not many reactors can speak after hearing him for the first time and we all take a deep breath when he is done singing. And yet his singing believe or not gets better and better. This is also the first video I discovered from Dimash now over 5 yrs ago. I'm 62yo and a lover of hard rock as a young teen, my fav band ever being Led Zepellin. I love all genres of music ranging from Billie Holiday to Pavrotti. I seek and enjoy especially live performances. Dimash (Dee-mosh) Kudaibergen (Koo-die-burr-gen) is simply the most educated, trained, hard working and talented singer on the planet, possibly ever. He is from Kazakhstan where at 5 yrs old it was discovered he had perfect pitch. He was accepted into the country's premier music academy where his training in classical and eventually contemporary singing and music composition began. His parents are both singers and noted teachers of music in the music industry. His mother, an opera singer. THIS performance is from 2017 I Am Singer, an annual singing competition in China where professional invited singers in different genres from China compete for Chinese Singer of the Year. Dimash was the youngest ever competitor and the FIRST ever non-Chinese invitee to compete. A show producer had watched a performance at an event where Kazahk and Chinese political figures were in attendance. The producer, obviously impressed, arranged for Dimash's special invite. If this wasn't enough, a longer version of this performance shows a personal friend of Dimash introducing him to OPEN the annual show with this performance of SOS, a super difficult French song, to his Mandarin speaking competitors and audience. A virtual unknown to them at the time, he was an instant sensation, requiring bodyguards for the remainder of the 15 week elimination competition. This show is the most viewed talent show in the world, as such, it was a springboard for Dimash on a world stage. Dimash brought credentials as he had won every single international singing competition to this point. He finished 2nd in this competition apparently due to the fact that he could not win Chinese Singer of the Year as a Kazahk. He did receive an award as Chinese Newcomer of the Year. The uproar this caused as a result forced the show to change its rules the following year to allow a non-Chinese winner. Jesse J benefitted the next year as being the 2nd non-Chinese to compete and eventually won. SOS became Dimash's signature song but this version, with the great Chinese reaction to him, remains my favorite. Strongly recommend the 2018 performance as well as 2021 SOS Dimash Digital Show. Both show progression in his abilities as well as his French pronunciation. He speaks Kazakh, Russian, a lil Mandarin and getting better with English. He sings phonetically in 16 languages, plays 7 instruments, Master's degree in singing and music composition and may have already earned his PhD in same. He is the best. Recommend u delay watching his more recent songs for now and first react to 2018 Sinful Passion. In it u will view a couple things u will NOT see anywhere else. It's amazing. Trust me please. SOS is Dimash masterpiece!! SOS is an existentialist song, about ups and downs in life, depression and death, when you feel you don’t belong here. The Singer , it was a Chinese show for highly respected singers to compete, Dimash was the only non Chinese singer invited because the producer saw him perform for the Chinese and Kazakh presidents and was very impressed. He is from Kazakhstan and was the youngest ever competitor in 2017 at only 22 years old. This was his first performance on the show and the audience went wild for him. When the show was broadcast on tv he had to have bodyguards for the first time in his life as he had become a superstar overnight in China. SOS is Dimash masterpiece!! SOS is an existentialist song, about ups and downs in life, depression and death, when you feel you don’t belong here. The lights in the back denoting all emotional stages, the wings and final moments before departing to heaven. Dimash is a world class artist, turned 28 on the 24th of May but touring the world to sell out arenas with his solo concerts, he also performs in concerts with the famous Ukrainian/Russian composer Igor Krutoy, is constantly collecting awards, attends many prestigious red carpet events, film festivals and even models for lots of high end fashion houses. He is university trained in Classical opera vocals to degree level, also holds a degree in contemporary pop music and jazz with a major in vocals, and now has finished his master degree in music composition. He started his doctorate in Musicology.He has been having singing lessons from the age of 5 when his teacher noticed he had perfect pitch . He was offered a place at the Astana Opera in Kazakhstan but respectfully turned it down to pursue his own more contemporary musical career. He is a multi instrumentalist, more than 8 instruments and also sings in 15 different languages and has a range of over 6 octaves from a low bass A2 to a high soprano, plus a whistle register with his highest note so far being a 5 second D8 with vibrato. He is widely recognized as the best vocalist in the world. He speaks fluent Kazakh and Russian, is studying English and Mandarin and has conversational skills in both but not quite fluent yet. He is kind, humble, generous and modest, very elegant and very tall, Dimash is 6ft 3, 1/4. His Dears, as Dimash calls his fans because we are so dear to him and very loyal, number over 70 fan clubs in 120 countries globally and number in the millions, probably you will soon be one of us Dears. 🌹🌹🌹
