WTH is wrong with FORD?
In a word? Leadership. That begs the question, is this leadership the right one to lead Ford forward?
I've come to the conclusion that Ford, at least for the last 50 years, has waffled between two leadership styles.
The first is to "hunker down" and focus (no pun intended) on quality. Remember, they used the Quality is Job 1 slogan for a long time building boring cars, and during the 80's managed to stabilize their marketshare while GM was in FreeFall.
The second is to "expand". Sometimes that models, adding outside companies like when they formed Premier Auto Group, or the current move to EVs. When this happens, they seem to have a scatter-shot approach without building real synergy and let quality fall by the wayside.
That's what they're going through now.

The big three are more concerned with their shareholders than their customers. Paying there executives huge bonuses. Build crappy cars and send them out. Deal with recalls and lawsuits later. They've been doing it for decades. It's harder now to get away with it because there's more competition.

Yes they are focused on making higher profits and looking for ways to reduce manufacturing costs to save money at the expense of quality. They use cheaper quality materials and parts so that the car is less expensive to make

I still think discontinuing passenger cars - especially affordable passenger cars - and hunkering down on an lineup consisting almost exclusively truck/SUV/Crossover lineup was a major mistake. Granted, GM is doing the same thing. Even the Escape is getting expensive for an entry level buyer, and some of the SUV's and trucks are base pricing in excess of $45,000 if not more. Fewer and fewer customers can afford $60K-$80K for a Ford. Not a Mercury, not a Lincoln, but a Ford. For many years affordable passenger cars were Ford's bread-and-butter, but I think Ford executives got greedy when they saw the significantly higher profit margins that trucks and SUV's had compared to passenger cars and in combination with major unresolved quality issues on their passenger cars (Ford Focus/Fiesta DPS6 dual clutch transmission) made the shortsighted move to an almost exclusively truck/SUV/crossover lineup. Now that the sales of those trucks, SUV's, and crossovers are starting to shrink due to our stagnating economy it's biting Ford in the ass. Before long foreign carmakers will have the American passenger car market cornered to the point Ford might never be able to successfully break back into it.

GM, Ford, and Chrysler screwed up royally. Getting rid of cars was the dumbest move ever made. If people thought that SUVs, trucks, and crossovers were going to completely take over, they were sadly mistaken. Cars will come back. They always do.

I'll defend Ford a little bit here. Having worked in marketing for years and mostly working on sales data/analysis, the people at Ford know the data better than those of us sitting home. There must be reasons that domestic auto companies using domestic manufacturing facilities can't compete with foreign companies using domestic manufacturing facilities.

As someone who was a Ford buyer for nearly 40 years, I can tell you that the company is foolish. My last Ford, a 1997 Escort, was so durable and dependable that I kept it for 22 years and drove it 180k miles before it had OEM part failures at the same time that would have cost more to fix than the car was worth. This car was simple and fuel efficient. It was a car. And there is where Ford lost me as a customer FOREVER. I want only a car. I could have bought a used Focus, but the cars were not as roomy as I'd like nor was the transmission an asset. Even if I wanted to buy a manual (which I did in the car I replaced the Escort), the resale value was ruined by the automatic fiasco. I don't want nor need a CUV, SUV, or truck. Ford lost me and now Hyundai has me for life. I also think that Farley is an overrated clown who never should have been the leader of Ford. He is free of common sense. Ford also has gone through periods of success in its history that has been been sabotaged by arrogance and stupidity - the problem with Ford now is that is may not have enough LOYAL customers left to get them into success. And Ford quality and engineering now SUCKS.

I have been a loyal Ford customer for many years. Most recently, I had 2 Fusions, 2012 and 2017. I went to a CUV, a 2020 Escape when Ford cancelled sedans. The Escape was where Ford hoped Fusion customers would go. Now the Escape is being cancelled in favor of the Bronco Sport. While I have been pleased with my 2020 Escape, I will not be replacing it with another Ford. I'm well aware of the Bronco recalls and while I'm OK with CUV's, I do not like the Bronco. I will be headed elsewhere when it's time to trade in the Escape.

Just make sure you check your oil on that Hyundai engine every couple days. Any manufacturer who thinks it is normal for a engine with less than 50k on the odometer to consume 1 quart of oil every couple thousand miles like Hyundai/Kia does is off their rocker. We won't even go into how weak their engine blocks are on their newer (2010 and up) 4 and 6 cylinder engines are. The metal wall at the bottom of the block under the crankshaft is less than 1/4 inch thick. I've seen low mileage Hyundai motors that have blown out a hole in this area big enough for me to fit my fist into.

Love your channel. You hit all the salient points. I worked there in the early 90s - the era of the "5 of the top 10 best sellers are Fords." In this era you had co-CEOs ... one was "a product guy" and the other was "the accountant." This proved to be a good mix because there was a leader for both of the 2 strategies you mention. Each car, Festiva, Escort, Mustang, Probe, Tempo, Taurus, Tbird, Crown Vic and then each truck Aerostar, Bronco, Bronco II, Ranger, F-Series, E-Series had something cool / unique about it. Something either in its engineering, or shape, or performance, or interior that was, well, pride inspiring. The decontenting started with the 90-91 recession. Suddenly (and it was sudden), there was a massive overcapacity problem and a set of labor contracts that meant labor got paid even if plants were idled in a given week. (not blaming either side ... they made those agreements together.). We began to see cheaper plastics, losses of favorite options, drastic reductions in color and fabric, and tinny feeling cars (the Mazda escort) that seemed very compromise-y. A car is someone's 2nd biggest purchase and I believe, no matter what the price-point, a buyer wants to be "surprised and delighted" (actual Ford terns back then) by some aspect. You don't want 100% compromise and cost-out. Then next shoe, imho, was draining the mainline brands (Ford, Merc, Lincoln) to pay for pay for the wild acquisitions of the PAG. Once you pull $ out of the cycle plan, it's very hard to catch back up. My daily drivers are first-gen Taurus SHO (1990) and 3 first-gen Thunderbird SCs (1989, 1990, 1993). These were the last with quality interiors that were unique to the car and the application. Come mid-90s, and we begin to see shortcuts ... not all at once ... but things like hard plastic, unified HVAC controls shoed in every model regardless of theme, interchangeable dashboards, etc. High-take-rate options disappear (keyless entry). If you got in a last-gen escort and compared it to the Honda or Toyota of the same era, the interiors just looked cooler and more unique to the car. Come to the 2002-5 Tbird (I had one) and while the exterior was a stunner, the interior was cheap, creaky, plasticy, and didn't match the theme of the car (pulled from the LS). Also, because it was pulled from the LS, a lot of the fun was taken out of driving the car. But, of course, the overlap saved $. And then this retreat from the US car market ... how does this inspire confidence with the higher volume segment buyer? Once you start pulling and retreating, it's very hard to get that back. Google the 2024 UAE Taurus ... it's gorgeous. I am encouraged that the just had a big jump in JDP initial quality (and congrats). And I am excited that there's still fun (raptor, dark night, Bronco Sport heritage packages, etc). That fun pulls people into the showroom even if their intent is to buy a more baseline, high-volume piece. But it's time to get moving on bringing back cars and excitement. GM and Stelantis are doing it already. It's important not to be last. And, given the cool stuff I see in the non-US markets ... it's alll out there, waiting ...

I’m done with new cars. I had a 2015 jeep wrangler. Before the car market went crazy. And the payment then of $500 a month sucked even though I could afford it. I couldn’t even imagine having an even newer car for 2 or 3 times the price and payment. Currently I got a 2002 tundra and it’s all paid off. Sure it’s older, lacks some features of new cars, and can’t do everything new can. But I love it for that. Less features to break and get in my way. Proven reliable vehicle for over 2 decades. And paid off so no extra payments besides insurance and gas. And the occasional repair. But it’s been totally reliable with nothing major wrong. What has needed repair never would have kept me from driving. I can’t say the same for newer vehicles with the insane amount of tech cramped inside. New cars suck. Not just price but also for the amount of unproven new tech controlling everything and lack of quality. There are many parts on a car that does not need to be connected to a computer. For me the simplicity is what I love. I love my tundra for its simplicity. New enough to be comfortable for daily driving. Old enough to be free from maintenance nightmares. Old cars just are better for me. I personally really hate having a car day otherwise to me driving or repairing it. I control the car, not the other way. And the best part of an older car is the used parts market and aftermarket parts. Tons of support to mod/change anything I would want to.

Ford’s biggest problem for decades has been quality issues. That’s why they basically lost the entire sedan market because nobody trusted them. The Taurus was a nice car out of the box but by 50,000 miles you had to do head gaskets and a new transmission. My company was a supplier to Ford so I bought them out of loyalty, but I rarely had one that wasn’t in the shop all the time even when new. I bought a 2020 Mustang with endless transmission problems as well as other things. I have pretty much washed my hands of them. And various quality surveys pretty much back up that their quality is subpar compared to many other car makers, including GM. In fact GM is now above average in quality on both 90 day and three year surveys by JD power. Ford and Lincoln are still lingering down at the bottom. They also have the highest warranty costs and the highest recall rate of all auto makers. Those are facts from Ford’s own stockholder reports. The fanboys can’t really argue much about it.

Our '05 Focus went 230,000 miles during our ownership and is still running strong, the '13 Escape did 90,000 trouble free miles bufore trading it on a used '19 Nautilus, and our '16 Fusion has only needed tires and a battery in 9 years. This is such short-sighted marketing and production it is difficult to believe. Most foreign companies continue to make cars from Tiny hatchbacks to Giant SUVs and everything in between so they are positioned in case of any change in the market, which could be the result of an energy crisis or just change of preferences by customers. By only building one kind of vehicle, you will only have one kind of customer and if any of those situations happens GM and Ford will have no cars to compete with, and Kia Hyundai Toyota Honda and all the others would just have to increase production of one type of vehicle to meet the market. And unfortunately I think this is why GM in Ford probably should go out of business because of this horrible mismanagement and not offering what so many customers actually want.

When I lived in the north it was quite typical to have part of the front of your house brick veneered and the rest would be some sort of siding. I’m also lucky enough to live in a neighborhood with minimum 1 acre lots where they didn’t clear cut the trees so they’re big. My 2.25 acre lot is covered with trees that are over 80 foot tall. Most of the places I’ve lived were unfortunately clear cut or were built on what used to be farm fields so the only trees we had were what we planted.

Like the other legacy companies they have lost vast amounts of experienced talent over the past 10 years or longer. This includes shrinking their Euro footprint. A lot of the quality issues seem to be from poor component sourcing decisions to achieve lower costs. That and mandated engine designs to meet Government regulations that have proved to be failure prone have hurt customer expectations. Ford basically became a pickup and Mustang company and spent tons on the EV revolution with no profit returns. Like with Boeing, their quality failure culture will take years to clean up. Perhaps having strong JV’s like with Mazda in the past covered the imbedded problems up. It’s going to take years and staff changes at all levels to show consistent excellence in their products. It’s a sad story actually but GM and others are not so different either.

Absolutely. Younger engineers count on computers to do everything. The company counts on this to spend less time developing and testing while getting vehicles to market faster. Then they bought the government’s line in EVs hook line and sinker. Spent the farm on them. That and other issues are why $50k trucks cost $100k. Buyers of ICE engines are paying for these failures. The 1999-2010 Fords were some of the best value and most reliable cars on the road with a few minor exceptions, 6.0L International engines. About the time they went high tech the fail started.

I’m so disgusted with Jim Farley. Sure, he introduced the Bronco lineup as well as the Maverick, buts that’s the only two things that he actually did succeed in accomplishing, although the Maverick could’ve been prioritized for production. On the negative side, he killed Ford’s most valuable assets, Ford Europe. He ruined Ford’s engineering and quality to levels we never imagined. He is totally emptying out Ford’s cash hoard which at one time was the largest cash hoard on the planet. He completely screwed up electrification with one dumb expensive model and another dumb and expensive EV pickup model that both lose money per vehicle sold. He ruined relationships between the union. He ruined relationships with the dealers. He has done nothing to counter the poor quality, in fact it gets worse each year. He is doing nothing about increasing productivity of popular models like the Maverick and is instead continuing to build the unwanted EVs. He is taking much bigger pay packages than any other Ford CEO in history, who were all better at running the company than him. Etc etc. I got to stop, but this guy also needs to too. In contrast to Marry Barra who is in line with the average GM CEOs (after the 80s) who are dumb and uninspired but enough to get GM barely chugging along, Jim Farley stands as a sharp drop in leadership capabilities compared to the past Ford CEOs who tended to be more conservative and preservative of Ford’s assets and brand reputation. Ford was always the most profitable and wise one of the Big Three, and Jim ruined everything for them. Terrible CEO! 1/10 score for Jim Farley.

Being an executive in these times is difficult for certain. Some of the problems Ford has I think has the foundation before he took the reigns, but the bottom line is what I am seeing doesn't appear to be the company reaching the bottom and rising yet. The decision to abandon cars is one that I will forever question. The bottom line is the crossovers were based on these platforms, share the powertrain and some interior parts. If they needed to limit production or build it in cheaper countries they should have done that. They should also anticipate the history of the car market that we have had since the 1970s where during the good times land yachts are super profitable and the fuel efficient cars are loss leaders but the market changes overnight to where the loss leaders will make a minor profit and a land yachts lose tons of money. You need to have both. The escape and bronco sport is a prime example of how to use the same platform in the same segment to appeal to very different customers. This is what Ford should have been doing with their different divisions. If Mercury had been focused on making on road crossover SUVs and Ford would have stuck with making off-road capable SUVs This is how it is done correctly. The other part about their current products are confuse me is how they get such poor fuel economy given the small complicated designs they have with as many gear ratios as they have. The disappoints me because I often am rooting for Ford. Currently I don't think there's anything that they have that I would buy.

@@Rudenbehr if I remember correctly the Ford eco sport with a 1.0 turbo 3 cylinder didn't get above 30 mpg. A Lincoln Nautilus with I think a gdi 2.3 turbo and 8 speed transmission only gets 27 mpg ( a Jeep Cherokee 3.2 V6 with port injection and a 9 speed get 28 mpg and produces more HP). I cannot remember the rest of the examples from back in the day but the considering the engine displacement, the gasoline direct injection which historically I think is supposed to boost fuel economy by about 3%, the use of 8 to 10 speed transmissions depending on application, a lot of these Ford vehicles with these so-called EcoBoost engines are not turning out very impressive fuel economy.

When that becomes obvious it will be plain to see that the ice business is profitable, and the ev side isnt. Thus the decision what to do when the focus is profitability will be obvious and apparent. Your comment on fords seemingly flup flopping nature is accurate. 1st gen taurus was class leading in quality, design, materials, etc. By the mid to late 90s there had been so much cost cutting the taurus interior was awful. Part of Ford's long term plan especially on EV's is that they use priority software. People haven't realized that all of their repairs or software updates can charge whatever they want for repairs, updates and service. You are stuck paying an exuberant service cost. If they have to offer the right to repair any independent shop will have to pay a large annual licensing fee. So even if they lose money up front they have a plan to recover their billions in losses.

Everyone is plagued with more recalls and problems now than I can remember since the late 1970's early 1980's when Detroit was a complete mess. A few months ago my mom died of cancer. She had a 2018 Ford Escape with 37k on the odometer. I was in some need for a car, her car was available through the estate if I wanted it. Some family members asked me if I was interested in the car. I said, no. It was, because between that cars transmission on those Escapes and the fact that they also have problems with head gaskets and turbochargers. I turned it down. A real high volume car to have such well documented problems massive problems makes me not the slightest bit interested in that vehicle, or brand. I wish all companies would stop making (3 & 4 cylinder turbocharged engines) they get way too hot for the metallurgy of today. Over time the metals break down and expensive problems develop. Many fewer problems for owners would be the end result of getting away from small turbocharged cars. It might result in fewer recalls in the long run as well.

The calculus seems to be "generate as much revenue as possible and minimize the expenses of recalls, lawsuits, union contracts, etc". This seems to equal record profits. I expect they (not just Ford, but Ford seems to be a glaring example) will continue doing this until it is no longer profitable. Then, I would expect to see Farley, if not the entire C Suite, to become sacrificial goat(s). Dropping sedans is a good example of one of their decisions that looks good on paper but backfired on them later. A nice affordable sedan would look good in their lineup right about...now. How do you drop the Taurus nameplate with the brand identity it has?And no, Farley's not the answer. I'm currently in the market for a car. Ford as it stands today makes almost nothing I can realistically say I would buy. I like the Maverick but hard to get one under $35k . I like the Bronco Sport but ditto. I like the Explorer (too much $$, questionable quality). I like the F150 (psh yeah right $$). I like the Escape but hear the horror stories about its quality. The Edge is nice but it's kind of forgotten in their lineup and anyway, not quite for me. I want the Fusion, or better yet the Taurus, but I'm left looking at used options there, (aging ones in the case of the Taurus at that). It won't be long before China really starts cranking out the imports, and if WalMart proves anything, people will gravitate towards cheap goods. Honda, Toyota, Hyundai/Kia still offer sedans and sell lots of them. Ford never should have discontinued the Fusion as it was a sharp looking and good performing car. The money Ford wasted searching for a new direction could have been used to make a couple killer sedans that would have sold WAY more then the Mach-E or F-150 lightning. I like your reasoning. Ford takes too many short cuts. My 2008 Ford Police Interceptor, essentially a heavy duty Crown Victoria used less than adequate rust proofing and with cars going Northeast where massive amounts of road salt are used it equals trouble especially when a steel brake line craps out and since it was last produced as a 2011 model (2012 in Canada where they all were built) the replacement parts have become more and more scarce if not unobtainable. This equals a car that you have to dispose of that is otherwise okay because you can't buy a single steel brake line. Planned obsolesence, very possibly!

Any competent mechanic can make a brake line, most have rolls of line and drawers full of fittings just for that purpose. I can't fault a manufacturer for discontinuing a brake line for a decade-and-a-half old car when a typical mechanic can form up a new one of better quality materials for a third of the price of an OEM replacement.

I own a Ford Maverick and I used to work for a tier 1 automotive supplier. My experience with Ford is that they always had to reinvent the wheel for every new model. Instead of reusing simple proven parts, like Toyota, they designed new components for every model. Where Toyota would use the same door hinge on 5 different models Ford would have an unique set of hinges for each model. Another problem is Ford didn't use the Toyota quality system. Toyota worked hard to control every variable in the production process. Ford tries to inspect in quality. Toyota learned along time ago to validate the process and not depend on validating the product.

My opinion is they lost quality and more importantly quality control, parts on time when they did a spin off. Closing Ford parts plants locally and converting them to Visteon and many jobs ending up in other countries. They followed GM /Delphi and are reaping the similar consequences. When you cut pay and increase workload and have parts coming from other countries, somethings got to give. It's unfortunate also unfortunate for thousands of American citizens. Just jog your memory to remember what happened to the housing market in 2007. At least Ford didn't take the buyout GM helped with the collapse then took federal funds and paid their executives bonuses for GM spin-off parts to Delphi. Anyway i see a direct drop in quality and it appears to be increasing. I hope they can get a handle on it. Looks like Henry Ford had the best idea to keep it in house. Again just my opinion.

The new stuff just feels like that terrible scene in "Shawshank Redemption". You know the one. I sell auto parts so I see the full spectrum of vehicle reliability (in general) across a big majority of all of the brands out there. I began driving (legally lol) in 1986 at 16 years old, and I've owned many different brands, foreign and domestic. I've always tried to be brand-agnostic because I didn't want to miss out on good cars by being a yellow dog ("Mah dad owned a Yugo so that's the best!). My own driving experience reflects my real-world parts sales experience...Ford has consistently had better vehicle quality OVERALL than GM for the 35 years I've been in the parts business. Surprisingly, Dodge has been better than both of them. I'm talking in general and over the life of the vehicle. Yes, you have plenty of GM guys with 300,000 mile trucks, but I talk to just as many with 300,000 mile Fords and Dodges. Really. GM owners are just more vocal about it in my experience. Maybe the Ford and Dodge owners don't want to tempt fate by bragging on their rides. I drive a Toyota so I'm out of the hunt entirely. The GM owners have no answer for why they buy way more repair parts for their rides than the other ones do. It's definitely not because there are just more GM's out there, because according to well-published sales numbers they're just not. Of course, all three brands have their severe pain points. GM has the guaranteed failure of front steering components. If I only had a nickel for every pitman arm and idler arm I've sold on Chevy trucks from the '70's era on up, I'd be financially independent and not still selling parts, investments aside. Same goes for transmission issues in the early 2000's Dodges and head problems on the same era Fords, not to mention timing issues. I'm talking only about domestic trucks here, but you see trends against all of the brands at times in the cars too. Point is, there's no best brand, and if you believe there is, you'll be financially disappointed and depressed one day. I tell people all the time if I even wanted to buy a brand new domestic truck it would be a Dodge because of the current value proposition compared to the other ones. But that will change one day, too, again. Right now I wouldn't pay a dollar for an Ecoboost of any size if it were offered, and I despise the engineering choices GM made with the modular motors (5.3 et al). I mean, having to pull the heads to change lifters (that WILL rattle at some point because of sub-par oiling)? Call me out of touch, but I'm very happy with old-school 350's and Ford 302's/351W's because of what feels like rushed-to-market lack of quality in the newer designs. And let's not even get started on the new electronics encumberment on every vehicle out there. Engineered to fail. Thanks Jon, for the video and insight.

A good example today is Lincoln. They look fine on the outside but the interiors remind me of the 1980s, with shiny chrome buttons and trim bits everywhere. And the seats were too narrow and too uncomfortable as well. I own a 2006 Ford Focus ZX5 and still.runs great but I needed a new car a few years ago and bought myself a new Hyundai Elantra with a 2.0 engine and I'm very happy with it.. I hope Ford can come back with a stylish mid size sedan to compete with the Honda Civic and Toyota. Corolla some day.

Not gonna lie I absolutely love shiny chrome knobs and switches so the Lincoln interiors hit just right for me that way. Only thing that would make them better is more wood! The whole dash like my 79 town car! Also the seats are definitely a downgrade in the new Lincoln’s. Wider and softer needs to be the slogan at Lincoln.

@nintendork900 lol, there are folks still living in 2024 that still like that, but Cadillac does it better with more contemporary aluminum and stainless Steel. Maybe that's why Lincoln isn't selling cars that much anymore.

The problem is that all makers are following the trend of making a product only last long as the warranty. They are forcing owners to enter into leasing the product because the vehicle will not last as long as the loan.

QUALITY❗️. This is why Toyota, and Honda, [ and others] consistently do so well. It’s why we almost lost all 3 companies, back in the ‘80’s. “The Malaise Era” 1970’s-mid 1980’s.

the only current ford product i genuinely want is the new bronco NOT THE SPORT but the Body on frame fully retro bronco ! i would love to have a Heritage edition new bronco but the price is too much and honestly if Toyota or Honda or Hyundai created the exact same style product a Retro styled 4X4 or Truck i'd buy their version over fords because i trust those brands more

Bill Ford Jr said Jim Farley is the best ceo they have ever had and he has no plans to replace him. Shame Billy boy is to darn lazy to run the company himself, it certainly ran better under his leadership.

They have a home run with the maverick, but they can’t make enough and they are WAY over priced. The longer they wait to fix their problems the quicker they will lose to Toyota or Subaru if they bring back their small trucks.

Well, I think Ford needs to replace Jim Farley. MBA's should not run automakers. They need to find a Bunkie Knudsen or John DeLorean type who knows cars and trucks, and how to build them. Furthermore, Ford needs to return to manufacturing at least 70% of its parts, cutting back on all that outsourcing. That includes building and operating its own foundries, casting its own engine blocks and heads. And, making other parts of its cars and trucks. So much outsourcing (to the lowest bidders) is probably the big reason for the decline in quality, durability, and reliability. Honestly, I'm not sure which brand I would buy today, as I'm hearing all the new cars and trucks are having issues, some worse than others. I might look for an original platform Ranger or 90s Mazda B Series derivative. I had a great experience with my 97 Ranger.

Ford needs to focus on their luxury line up bring back the Black Label MKZ and the Black Label Continental. And bring it back in the 3 l twin turbo these two sedans are too large for a 2 L 4-cylinder. It ends up working too hard to move it down the road which decreases performance. I love my 2020 Lincoln MKZ 3.0T AWD Reserve, but I really wish they continued the Black Label they had an great start but failed with zero follow through. I didn't even know they existed until after I happened upon a 2016 MKZ and then after building a nice community online for MKZ enthusiasts.

Interesting, i believe both Ford n GM made big mistakes 1. Australian design, 3 models to platform car, ute, wagon n did less budget then similar US platform 2. Building names up even though Falcon name ran over 40 years its base, mid spec, top spec that change n confuse buyers 3. Building Right Hand Drive on same line as Left Hand Drive, how many more years? The most successful Holden CEO was Peter Hanenberger n Ford Australia Geoff Polites, both boss's inject passion helping their companies grow. Holden had sedan, wagon, ute, coupe, cab chassis, awd wagon/ute plus middle east market n US thanks Bob Lutz.

Another informative, thought provoking video. After watching the WTH video on Jeep, I see some concurrent themes, namely “aggressive expansion” and trying to be something you’re not. At least Ford, as you have noted, has backed off. Stellantis on the other hand is going right over the cliff, destroying Jeep, selling off the Auburn Hills hq and laying off engineers. The explorer and bronco and escape were all reasonable vehicles that Jeep should have made. I think Ford self corrects here, as they have in the past, omo. Fun fact: Farley is indeed the cousin of Chris Farley, you can see similarities in their faces. Tommy Boy runs a car company! Just kidding, RIP Chris and I hope Farley self-corrects. Great video, again very informative.

This is a good question, but 30 years too late; dumb consumerism, government welfare, and easy financing on tanky pickup-trucks are the only reasons any remnants of 'The Big Three' still exist. Their mid-size pickups got walloped by the Frontier and the Tacoma. They were too stupid to go the EV route; Tesla is years ahead in R & D, their battery-management system and design is pretty amazing. We've hit almost 100k on ours, no issues except the hood-latch which Tesla Mobile Service fixed free-of-charge... no dealership BS. We're done with dealerships. Cadillac and Lincoln became so non-descript and utilitarian that the brand disappeared. Who can forget the Mark... LT... endorsed by Matt McConaughey. The first Lincoln Navigator looked like the Griswald Family Truckster. Mercury... that's an apparition like Chrysler/Plymouth. The only thing folks associate with Ford and GM these days are big trucks... utility. Comfort, performance, style... Lexus or Tesla. Acura and Infiniti are pretty much done, European makes are just painfully impractical.

Just my 2 cents, I think splitting the company into two separate entities for BEV/EV and ICE is a fairly smart move in today's economy. If they play their 'business cards' right, it should take the risk out of one totally sinking the other of they were to remain together (which one goes away, or will both stay successful, is still anyone's guess right now)

I drive a 2020 explorer police package at work. It has by far the worst, cheapest interior I've ever experienced. Yes, it's a fleet car, but it's exceptionally horrible in cost cutting compared to previous decades driving fleet vehicles. And the transmission...what a disaster. Add to that the issues the F series are having with cab leaks and engine/transmission issues.

Jon, a Lincoln Mustang? Ford tried a Lincoln truck remember? I know the Lincoln customers are not looking for a fast car or they would have bought the Mark 8. That was a very fast car
