The problem with gentrification is that African Americans get priced out and there is no place to go. African Americans who have been in these communities for years. It is truly unfortunate African American Businesses and Residents cannot stay where they have built.
@dugebuwembo Жыл бұрын
Black folks need to get smarter about group economics. Similar processes occur over here in London UK 🇬🇧, black areas get gentrified yet the South Asian & Jewish areas don't & that's because South Asians & Jews are excellent at group economics and thus make it impossible for places that they have settled in to be gentrified.

DC now has two bedroom houses going for over one million dollars. People want to move into your community and then push you out of it. I’m 19 and don’t even recognize the city I am from. Luxury condos are popping up all across the city.

What's wrong with the city diversifying? Why are they complaining about other people and cultures moving in? This is incredibly racist. SMH
@nycblixky85303 жыл бұрын
Because it’s only diversifying in black neighborhoods not white neighborhoods
@pp3k3jamail6 ай бұрын
The problem with diversifying is a lot of the people that come over here don't respect the people that built the city. Also the whole gentrification it out prices people who lived in the neighborhoods and then they can't move back in the neighborhoods that they grew up and it separates neighborhood bondness. You don't see Neighbors looking out for their neighbors kids like back in the 50s 60s 80s play 90s you don't see block parties you don't see cookouts. You don't see kids together playing anymore. I can go on and on. if you like nothing but joggers and dog walkers in your neighborhood that's fine good for you.

Nope, nope and nope. This story is not about the influx of more affluent citizens, but how the African American community failed to build strong academic programs and sustained them. There was an increasing surge of drug abuse and demoralization of its citizenry. A sustained upsurge in violence undermined the quality of life in many neighborhoods. And African migration to the suburbs in favor of homeownership elsewhere cemented these changes. And there is little discussion of the waning religious leadership in the city on the civic well-being of the city. African Americans let roots die and could not anchor in.

The District of Columbia became the first majority Black major city in the United States in 1957. Over time, as the Black population grew, it subsequently became known as the nation's "Chocolate City," a name conferred by a popular funk song shortly after the passage of the District of Columbia's Home Rule Act in 1973 and proudly embraced by Washingtonians.

That's quite crass...I suppose if you are African heritage, but a city being nicknamed after the colour of a person's skin is super tacky and self disrespecting. Nice they're proud of their people, but as a foreigner, is weird. Considering if their were 10 people in the world, 6 would be Asian, 3 would be African decent and 1 would be European decent. It's an European culture Africans reside in. If they want to have a fairer society, it could be beneficial to look to how Venuatians have adapted their culture to accommodate western trade but not loose there cultural values.
