I don't think so. Imo he'll decline within 3-4 years. Remember his play style is based on his extraordinary reflexes, similar to how Casillas was. Casillas declined sharply once he reached his mid 30s. It's goalkeepers who are very commanding of their box who often play until their late 30's (e.g. van der Sar, Buffon and soon to be Neuer). De Gea is statistically one of the worst keepers in the league at commanding his box, so once his reflexes drop off his level will plummet.

But equally, I think a more commanding goalkeeper would have prevented a comparable number of goals by stopping the shots from crosses before reaching the goal, as well as sweeping and stopping shots. It's why there was a strong debate going into the season who between de Gea and Henderson was the better fit for United. De Gea is probably the best in the world with his reflex saves, but his commanding of the box is bottom 3 worst in the premier league. Henderson is not as good a shot stopper, and is more error prone, but is the far more commanding keeper of his box, and is far superior sweeper. For context, last season United's win % increased significantly when Henderson started as it led to less goals conceded. De Gea has been another level this season from last year, but it's not as clear cut as most think.

But what stats do is destroy subjective opinions that's rampant on social media that's based on agenda and bias. Maguire was never the best defender in the world and I don't think anyone ever argued that. But statistically Maguire has ranked as a top 3 CB in the league for 3 seasons running, but it's only at United where he gets abused due to price tag. As further proof of this, Stones and Dias were considered the 2 best CB's in the league last season. Maguire (who was laughed at despite being good) rocked up to England and far outshone Stones and everyone realised that he's actually a very good player. Point is, stats will show that some players are not as good as they're portrayed and vice versa. Stats can also be misleading if you can pick and choose it. But that's not what I'm doing to talk about de Gea - I'm looking at his best attributes and worst, and I'm giving an objective opinion based on eye test of watching every single game he's played at United for over a decade and backing that up with stats.

There is always some ridiculous stats that can be twisted any way we like it. Take Traore as a recent example. Nothing special but nothing extremely bad either. Yet people constantly try to prove him a world class player because he was one of the best players in Europe at successful dribbling % or people trying to prove that he is a Championship level player by pointing to his goal scoring records and his crossing. Statistically, Maguire is supposed to be a world class player but when you watch the games, you could see that he turns slower than a truck. Stones and Dias may not have the best statistics but they worked well together. Something could easily be seen last season. In England's defense as well, Maguire and Stones looked amazing statistically while if you looked closely, it was Walker that saved the save each time one of them lost the ball and an opposition player could run a deadly counter attack. To get back to De Gea, from a Goalkeeper you expect him reflects and keep the ball out of his net. The rest is extra work that modern football has overvalued. Henderson may control his box area but knowing that, good managers would try to avoid it and expose his weaknesses. Meanwhile De Gea has a better chance to keep the ball out of the nets all around and the defenders would hopefully give him some assistance in the things that he isn't as good at.

Props to the man. World class goalie and our best and most consistent player by far this season. The manager appointment is key because in a whole lot of things, since Fergie, we've almost always been late. signings and appointments mainly. signing Zlatan, Falcao, Cavani, CR7 again, LvG, Mourinho all after they were past their best. we were late in restructuring our club to have a DoF too. I think choosing Poch over ten Hag would be along the same lines. Poch should've been signed in 2019 but we chose to prematurely sign Ole permanently. Signing Poch now is too little too late and we should move on to better in ten Hag.

remember that this comes from a Liverpool fan: we beat man utd 0-5 at Old Toilet, but it could have easily been 0-8 if not for De Gea, maybe even 0-10.
