@AthenaTennosN8 ай бұрын
I mean, their whole lore arc begins with splitting from the original Mer tribe to seek metaphysical ascendance specifically, as promised by Veloth. I don't think it's "bias" exactly, rather it's that their key lore direction had always been about this thing about transcendence, and they were written the way they were with a particular transcendence-themed ending in mind. It just has been explored more thoroughly than other races' stories by virtue of being the focus in the game that was made before Bethesda became an "aaa developer" if you know what I mean. ES:O, for all its flaws, has some rather interesting tidbits on everything and everyone else... although in practice, only Khajiit lore has this distinctive MK's fever dream feel to it (another race favored by Azurah, a fun little coincidence). Which is weird, because the game freely namedrops old deep lore concepts like Towers or Dreamsleeve every now and then, invents new ones that rival MK's acid trips ("water is literally the memory of the world") and not in a diluited Skyrim-esque manner either.

There have been at least two Dragonbreaks in the history of Nirn, one during the First Era caused by the Maraakati Selective (and detailed in the book Where Were You When the Dragonbroke, (incidentily, written by none other than MK)), and another, the Warp in the West, caused by the reassembly of the Numidium in the Third Era (detailed in the events of the game Daggerfall). And yes, they caused just as much mayhem as you might imagine. Don't play with Towers, kids.

Finding a magic stone to fight Demons altogether sounds like a childlike interpretation of ALMSIVI's divinity, minus the foul murder
@TheRelevantusername Жыл бұрын
This is how I interpretated it. Like, the way its written, that's totally how I think it is. They basically have the tribunal, Dagoth Ur and Nerevar as children, who go on an "adventure" into RED FUCKING MOUNTAIN (assumedly), which is played off as a joke, but anyways. They end up finding a magic stone, which Vivec divides, and hands out. This magical stone grants them powers, and turns their skin grey in response, although Vivec only turns half grey, half gold as usual. It's... bizarre, but yeah. Another interpretation, of a similar branch, would be that this is what happened when the tribunal messed with time to make themselves always have been divine in nature. Having went back and manipulated the timestream or timeline to where.they found numidium as a children's toy, and activated its power before their rise to true power.

So a Coda in music is like the end, but it’s like a special ending. I remember my music teacher had a really weird explanation for codas though, it’s like what’s important is you’re supposed to know it’s there, and typically the song repeats a few times before you go to the coda and finish the song. Also the coda is typically unique to the rest of the song, so it makes sense for the title of a book that’s basically the end of elder scrolls, the kulpa has been repeating for a while now and now it’s time for the end end.

I've learned over the years that all of C0DA makes sense in context. As I've incorporated more of this context, more of it makes sense. There are A LOT of obscure references, not only to lore and real life mysticism, but also to community stuff. It's also highly symbolic in nature. A very good example is the Tomorrowind part, which I also did not understand until I read a commentary by Lady N (MK's wife), that said it was a way to portray how the dunmer viewed their heroes from a pop culture lens (i.e. by comparing them to Justice League or Avengers).

So, it sounds to me like MK is having Jubal achieve CHIM (ascending to godhood), which is why he talks to Talos, who is really Lorkahn (this realization is part of him understanding CHIM, and why he goes from calling him a virus (from the elvish perspective Talos makes men and thus the mortal world stronger) to a preacher (someone who can show elves the way out of being mortal, who can preach the way of escape back to being what they were before the trap of creation)), and him meeting the Numidium is like the final step. The Numidium is powered by energy from Lorkahn (technically Wulfarth's soul, one of Lorkahn's aspects/mantels), which is also what allowed Vivec, Sotha Sil, and Almalexia to achieve godhood (harnessing the power of Lorkahn's Heart). So, it's the final step.
@isaachester8475 Жыл бұрын
It seems to me like Jubal and Vivec actually become the Amaranth by the end of C0da, so I agree. I think CHIM is a stepping stone to Amaranth, so it makes sense that Jubal and Vivec would achieve CHIM first before achieving Amaranth.

Well, the Song of Pelinal says this: "he was Pelinal the Whitestrake because of his left hand, made of a killing light" and this: "[And then] Kyne granted Perrif another symbol, a diamond soaked red with the blood of elves, [whose] facets could [un-sector and form] into a man whose every angle could cut her jailers and a name: PELIN-EL [which is] "The Star-Made Knight" [and he] was arrayed in armor [from the future time]." So, Pelinal Whitestrake could be interpreted as a lazer wielding, sci fi-esque super soldier. The Numidium is essentially a robot, and the Dwemer seem to have had some sort of telepathy or technology allowing long distance communication, plus they created tons of automotons, and airships. Technology is definitely not absent in the Elder Scrolls, or Kirkbride's lore friendly writings, though the lack of attempts to at least disguise it with poetic language is very un-Elder Scrolls-ish.

A very nice analysis of a topic most people cannot (or refuse to) understand. I've been trying to understand C0DA for a while, and with this I found some new ideas I hadn't thought of. On the subject of Jubal lun Sul cutting off his hands. I don't fully understand this yet, but there's a quote from the 36 Lessons of Vivec which may explain it: "According to the Codes of Mephala, there is no difference between the theorist and the terrorist. Even the most cherished desire disappears in their hands. This is why Mephala has black hands. Bring both of yours to every argument. The one-handed king finds no remedy. When you approach God, however, cut both of them off. God has no need of theory and he is armored head to toe in terror." (Sermon 11) Take this as you will.
@Gronglegrowth4 жыл бұрын
Additionally, here is an in depth analysis of some topics discussed in C0DA by reputable loremasters: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYK2fKOrdpqArbc It might also be of use to read some of the additional C0DAs on Tomorrowind Today, which is a site that fleshes out C0DA. One I recommend is A Khajiit C0DA; it attempts to explain some things, and adds far more questions of its own in doing so, but it is an interesting read.
@StarlitSeafoam4 жыл бұрын
Oo, thanks for this! I think this quote, along with several others from the 36 Lessons, support the idea that Jubal is actually trying to achieve CHIM. For example, Sermon 27 says "The third walking path explores hysteria without fear." Which nicely explains why Jubal drank all that Skooma after he had his hands removed. He is attempting the Third Walking Way, approaching hysteria without fear. Also, Vehk is helping him to find a sword; this sounds a lot like the Second Walking Way mentioned in Sermon 23: "I give you an ancient road tempered by the second walking way. Your hands must be huge to wield any sword the size of an ancient road, and yet he who is of right stature may irritate the sun with only a stick." I'm sure others have noted all of the above before me, but I figured I would write it down anyway. :)

The only time I have seen coda mentioned in Kirkbride's writings in the games or out was in the secret 37th book of the 36 Lessons of Vivec in which he pretty much just did a coded advertisement for C0da and kind of connected the lore with the storyline of C0da. Wish I knew more.
@isaachester8475 Жыл бұрын
Well if it helps, a coda is an end to a piece/section in sheet music. So maybe the entire chain of events is the music, and the end is the coda, and things are “registered” or permanently written down in the end. Perhaps the 0 in c0da signifies that the end of this universe is actually the beginning of another. I’m really stretching to find answers tbh
@isaachester8475 Жыл бұрын
It’s also worth noting that codas tend to mark the end of a repeating section. For example, the music might repeat several times before the coda brings it to an end and starts a whole new section. This could be the endless cycle of the Wheel in the Aurbis, and the C0da is the escape from that Aurbis to make a new universe.

It explains why the Thalmor hate Talos so much, even better than just "a man shouldn't be a god". C0da sounds very much like the 36 Lessons of Vivec. Lots of fascinating facts (and surprisingly deep character building for Vivec; he actually admits he killed Naravare in a coded message in the very books he wrote to quell the rumors. Huh, the Tsaesci attempting to buy a Numidium...The last remaining dwarf would be the only link to the creators of the Numidium. Since he is in a pocket realm of Oblivion, he is outside time, so it makes sense he is "from the future". Could the Tsaesci be hoping to somehow use him to contact the other Dwemer? It supports the idea that the Dwemer just went forward in time or to an Oblivion realm, rather than erasing themselves from existence. Perhaps the Tsaesci want to save Nirn; what better way to fight the Numidium than with another Numidium? And the Tsaesci are a fascinating choice. They are heavily implied by the Remanada to be the Akaviri who invaded Tamriel during Reman's reign searching for the Dragonborn (turned out to be Reman) and became the Dragonguard, later known as the Blades. In which case, their desire to return order to Nirn, and to thus save Akatosh from the continual Dragonbreak that the Numidium is causing, makes perfect sense, since they seem to be his agents, protecting his chosen ones the Dragonborn.

It's essentially a letter from Jubal to everyone in Tamriel of the Fourth Era that explains Jubal's understanding of the nature of the universe. I would also highly recommend reading the Mythic Dawn Commentaries and the 36 Lessons of Vivec, both canon sources written by MK; start with the Commentaries, because they are much easier to decipher than the 36 Lessons. MK loves to hide things behind metaphors and symbolism, and the 36 Lessons is almost like his magnum opus, haha.

I never actually read through the whole thing, didn't know about Vivec etc. and i kind of liked it at first but when your mentioned modern technology, TV head people and a person with a camera, i was off. The reason why The Elder Scrolls world isn't modern is because of magic, their magic would exceed our technology in our world. There are details like Khajiit also being able to escape, which was cool, but the fact that the High Elves win the war and leads to all the races of Men going extinct, i don't like that. I agree with you to a point, the tech part can work and does make sense as some tech just has practical uses like robot servants and light sources as well as communication long and short distanced, but the problem with C0DA is when it gets into Tommorowind and how its story is just awkwardly implemented if MK was just a little more "lorefriendly" with tommorow and didn't go into the outfield for things like scientists, superheros, and television set heads then maybe it couldve worked and wouldve been more accepted amongst the community

I think c0da is a DNA registration pretty much like a passport for the dunmer people. I don't know if this counts for nondunmers like imperials, Bretons, redguards etc.
@infinitybreak44592 жыл бұрын
That's an interesting theory honestly, it makes sense especially when you consider that non of the non dunmer are not named like the Kahjit

C0da deserves much more to be cannon than the entirety of Skyrim, and actually it's far less lore breaking than the stupid shit Emil turned skyrim into, ruining all of Nord lore as well as screwing up all lore regarding devine entities like Alduin to be nothing more than "big bad dragon king who is eeeeevil because he is EEEEEEEEEEEVIL" meanwhile C0da mostly makes somewhat sense in the lore.

the part with the tribunal beating up tv wasnt supposed to make sense in the lore it was supposed to be fun. I loved imagining the tribunal as superheros beating up television, its supposed to be a comic book.

Yeah i know, its just jarring because its written by someone who writes a lot of deep lore that people consider cannon. I did find the concept funny just bizzare

Kirkbride is a good writer but man his biases for a game that lets you play other races is kinda bonkers bad and it's appropriate he references the use of superheros as he essentially superherofied the entire race of dunmer

I understand that people don't have time to spend hours reading shit on the imperial library and long reddit and /vg/ discussions, but for a content creator who makes a video specifically about C0DA, your understanding of C0DA is shallow to non-existent. Have you ever read a book in your life to begin with? Writing isn't always literal naturalistic narration, it can be symbolic and surreal and non-linear. I know video game writing standards are garbage, but Kirkbride's writings go beyond that to what I could say is acceptable writing. How tf can you make an analysis video about C0DA and think "well then they have tvs on their heads, i dont know wtf thats about lol" constitutes analysis? What would your analysis of Moby Dick be, "there was this whale lol and the dude rly wanted to kill it, i didnt get why they went to africa or something though lol"? Make a video about Solaris next, "It was a planet but like it showed them things but it was really weird lol". And again, the only reasons I'm commenting is because you choose to make an actual video covering this part of the lore specifically, and your analysis is just describing things followed by either "i liked that" or "it was bizarre". That's not an analysis, and you clearly didn't even understand what you read yourself.
@infinitybreak44593 жыл бұрын
Dude... relax, first off this video is old and i was just getting into deep lore at the time so forgive me if i was still getting used to MKs writtings. Second i plan on remaking this with hopefully more analysis on the writing itself since i have more experience deciphering his texts and am more used to his writting style now anyway. I admit i didnt do a good job with this video (I was still getting used to KZbin at the time i posted this and didnt understand i needed to script my shit) thats why this video never got a part 2 but there's no need to be rude about it.
