I don't see what y'all are seeing. Can someone explain?

It's really an ongoing story. Two females have fallen ill in this National Forest - one passed, one just rescued & going to medical. (Currently unconfirmed if same cause, but most assume.) That has brought out all sorts of "intruder" eagles setting their sights on the remaining males and their nests. Lots of strange factors unfolding the last few days, but it's more of an ongoing saga than a singular event.

Avian flu????

With the rising eagle populations, competition for good nesting sites is FIERCE.

Very true! It's been quite the parade of eagles checking out these nests lately.

Absolutely wild, and I don't like it one bit. Can't we just live in a land of rainbows and unicorns lol because "nature" sucks sometimes 😭

Still awaiting the results from toxicology/necropsy, but that's what the LSU vet staff is thinking, yes.

Apparently it is hunting season there. I believe through mid-late January. Unfortunately, it is legal. I think duck is what they're hunting, but I could be mistaken. Obviously, it is still illegal to hunt eagles, as they are protected. The area around their nests are marked and protected as well, and I know there are limitations to where & when they can hunt. I'm sure the eagles are somewhat used to the noise, but it obviously startles them, of course.
