Local farms let us come after 31st to clean their fields of pumpkins! We get a truckload for $10. I feed it to our goats and pigs everyday until they’re gone. They love them!

Thank you so much for sharing this video. It reminded me of an autumn many years ago, when i had a garden. It was a few days before Saint Maarten (november 11th), a day were at night the dutch children go from door to door, singing songs whilest carrying their selfmade lantarns, backpacks and the hope for a lot of candy to put in. Pretty similar to Halloween, but without the scairy costumes. I loved this tradition, and to make sure the children would not pass my house because of my long and dark driveway, i decorated it with pumpkins, lantarns and a small but cosy fire to light up the driveway. And it worked; children came, sometimes 2 or 3 at once, or alone, accomponied by mammie or daddy. And at the end of the evening i treated myself with the few pieces of candy wich was left over. The next day i cleared up the driveway, but forgot 1 very small pumpkin. A week later i saw this tiny one and saw that it hard started to rot. Ah well, i thought, thats okay; this is good and free fertilizer. So i left it there. Winter came and went, and when the days became warmer, i noticed something green on the spot were the tiny pumpkin had been. You've guessed it right; the pumpkinseeds had survived the cold winter and were growing! By the time they were strong enough, i planted them in a bare spot in my garden, crossed my fingers and hoped for the best because i have no green thumbs, nor had any experience wih pumpkins. And again nature suprised me ( i love it when she does that). In summer this bare corner had turned into a luscious green patch, filled with pumpkins and beautiful leaves. One of the things i made was pumpkin muffins, for wich i had first cooked small cubes of pumpkins and seasoned with cinnamon. And off course pumpkinpie and pumpkin soup. A couple of years ago i had to move, to an appartement and i miss my garden very much. I miss the birds, waiting in my Curranttree (Amelanchier, mine was 5 meters high and so beautiful) for me to get home and throw bread - their dinner - on the grass. And how nature's magic always would suprise me, and make my happy.

After I steam my pumpkins as you do, I simply measure out 2 cup increments into freezer quart ziplock bags, cool and freeze. When I want to make a pie or bars, I thaw and empty it into my blender. It is watery and stringy. But I put my spices, eggs, liquids and some flour in and blend. Then add the rest of the ingredients, blend and pour into my pastry shell and bake! For bars you will need to hand stir in the rest of the flour. This cuts out the purée process at processing time! Works great for me!

My mom would make a bunch of homemade pumpkin purée each fall, then she would sell from scratch, homemade pumpkin pies at spring bake sales and make a great profit for whatever fundraiser it was.

It worked! Somehow your videos make cooking new things approachable for me. I love baking pumpkin things for Fall but this was my first attempt to make it from a pumpkin instead of puree. Now I have tons of puree! Thanks for creating these relaxing cooking videos!

Pumpkin ravioli is delicious with a brown butter sage sauce. My grandmother was from Ukraine and survived starvation before world war II. She used to be horrified when we would carve Halloween pumpkins and would throw out the insides. She would stop us and take the insides and put them in a pot to boil with milk and she would eat it like porridge. It grossed us out but she never ever wanted food. I think sometimes she added rice.

New viewer here…. I watched the entire video, then went to the recipe page…. Just curious, (and I don’t want to be mean or rude) but I think the amount of salt you put in, on the video was considerably more than 1/4 tsp….. is that just for the KZbin channel ??

I was watching a Chinese documentary and learned that any hot item in the market the Chinese would make the mold in 2 days and flood the market with all the copied products but poor quality and out of hundreds of sales of those, 80%are returned from dissatisfied customers. It looks like the Chinese economy is worse than American.

You say to a woman who does all of those things AND is also technically the boss of her own business... It doesn't have to be all or nothing. You can care about children, cooking, and being a homemaker AND pursue your own dreams.
