Hi Ivan, appreciate the great videos... I do want to bring to your attention about some news re BCH vs BTC situation. Apparently Coinbase(B. Armstrong) is being heavily criticized at this moment by it's account holders about intentionally withholding the news to inform about listing BCH on the exchange until the time comes. The run-up of BCH in the past couple days implied an apparent insider leak (or coordinated effort to "pump"), leading up to a high price of BCH until the day of listing (which resulted in CB having to lockup the listing for many hours as the announcement came without warning), all these also happens to coincide with the day R. Ver is going on to CNBC to further pump the coin... Additionally, many account holders are claiming that when the listing happened the "Sell" button was disabled on the exchange which drove the price upwards even further to 8-9k... basically we see the picture here. This is truly very saddening to see such blatant attempt to disrupt decentralization purpose of the cryptocurrency... only for the evil intend of personal gain of wealth and power... all the while in drastic contrary to what has happened on the same day as Charlie Lee declares liquidation of his total possession of LTC and donating to LTC foundation, only to remove what he deemed as conflict of interest while he vows to devote his efforts in making LiteCoin better. As an early adopter of crypto who can choose to sit quietly and enjoy the gains, I can no longer watch such evil force at work. Please note I really don't mind the forks as I believe it can make the ecosystem better, such as the recent SBTC or LBTC hard forks that went unnoticed but are potentially 100 times better. All of these can potentially make cryptocurrency elevate to the next level, but minus the ill-intent of greed of power and immediate wealth of the few who think they can simply centralize the power because they have the wherewithal. My humble vision of cryptocurrency is one that it can enrich EVERYONE on earth without leaving anyone in poverty. One day anyone in their respective profession can realize the value of their skills via tokens delegated to their industry (such as an painter or musician or others), while all tokens can be exchanged for Bitcoin which is the central indicator/store of value. Currently, BTC is the sponge that absorbs the value from fiat, and everytime after it does to a level, it transfers the value to the alt-coins, hence the whole crypto currency marketcap grows. This will continue to happen until a balance is reached, namely when there is enough fiat that has come into the crypto system... and eventually the use of fiat will reduce to none as there simply wouldn't be a need for it to exist. I do apologize for the long message but I feel your followers and readers need to have a good understanding of what is going on here and that cryptocurrency is more than just seeing an increase of value vs fiat. Honestly, I just fear too many newcomers will see this as another investment opportunity like another good stock to invest in on wall-street, but rather I hope people can see this as an opportunity of the lifetime to wakeup and know that they have the power to do something better in this world though the cryptocurrency~

Good explanation, thanks for your video. A better analogy is TCP.IP. Innovation on the Internet (i.e. application layer) was *made possible* by sticking to the original intent of TCP.IP. We have dynamic Internet today because we have that strict protocol. The protocol was never broke and never needed fixing. It works so well that we're still using it today. Nobody ever worried about bandwidth or disk space. The same thing is happening in Bitcoin space. Innovation is *enabled* by the efficiency of the Bitcoin Cash chain. There is no way to innovate without moving coins - on the BTC chain every movement of your coin costs a lot of money. This actually stifles innovation. (Even Segwit did not solve any problems.)

I agree as well with your take on the white paper. But, I don't think the white paper is why they created BCH. The real reason is they didn't want to lose the ASIC boost by using Segwit. Segwit is a bad idea anyway. Why would you want to separate the signature, and then make it optional? Holy shit, that is a bad idea. Let's face it, bitcoin core should have just upped the block size for now. I just sent $25 and it cost about the same in transaction fees. That was 2 hours ago and it still hasn't gone through. So, Bitcoin core has purposefully crippled BTC so that everyone is demanding the Ligntning network. That is just big investors and banks centralizing bitcoin. It will just be a credit card backed by bitcoin. and taking your bitcoin in or out of that system will be really expensive.

great video as always Ivan. and while I agree with you about not taking the white paper too literally, the issue seems to me to be that Bitcoin has totally deviated from the whole point of Satoshi's white paper. so I think the comparison to the internet isn't an entirely accurate one -- it would be more like if the internet became solely a platform for watching movies vs. a means for people to communicate together. know what I mean? I'm not really a passionate supporter of either side of this debate, and in fact find it rather childish and disappointing in general, but I can clearly see the point of people who say that Bitcoin has changed from a p2p currency to a "store of value" with no real-world function besides that. anyway, I still think you're far and away one of the most wise and intelligent crypto commentators. thanks always being a voice of calm and reason in this crazy community!

$9500 it was not a glitch, I was able to buy at $9000, losing basically 50% of my purchase. The problem was that the only button working was the "Buy at market price" anything else was not working, which caused FOMO to buy at market and pushed the price to $9500. What's crazy is that nobody will take responsibility for this, neither for the insider trading

Ivan, thank you for sharing about your thoughts on Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash. I believe Bitcoin Cash has the advantage over Bitcoin. They are supposedly lower transaction fees and speed of transaction. Also, I think people will be attracted to lower price per one unit of Bitcoin Cash compared to Bitcoin. Right now, Bitcoin dominates the headlines. By the end of 2018, I believe Bitcoin Cash will take over and be the most dominant cryptocurrency. Unless Bitcoin improves in their transaction frees, then it will never reach that $1million/Bitcoin promise land that many people were talking about. That is just my opinion.
6 жыл бұрын
In my understanding BTC is in trouble there's a plan to make the fee height and transaction even more slow. A lot people believe that this is caused by Roger Ver and BCH but if you revert this logical, you will see that the market is being manipulate by people who want to promote the lightining network as solution.

You dont know what bitcoin cash can do yet. It can do smart contracts, it can be private if the user wants it to be, and everything else that most coins can do. The problem (core and blockstreams problem) is when you have bigger blocks, you eliminate the need for lightning or segwit. ;)

As you mentioned about the analogy of internet, yes I agree with LTC and LN and so forth. but it seems you stuck with bitcoin as well. The nature of distributed systems currently has difficulty to upgrade (fork). So, the better solution is adapting another dominating technology, which can solve the current problem for a while unless we resolve the most scalability issues. And this first generation crypto bitcoin and clones are way overvalued if you think about the technological/ code functionality. I don't want btc crash all of sudden but slowly handing to the emerging technologies. I do not think investors are really dumb to not know what is going on in this blockchain. If you came from technology/programming background, do not just look at the name but the codes and functionality. There are tons of better codes out there because of open-source nature. In the future, if the number of coins are similar, the majority should be similar price like 10 dollars so that people can exchange and accomplish tokenized economy. So, the losing dominance due to bcc is actually not bad to the blockchain industry before we see huge crash. self-adjusting is better than real crash IMO. Both should go down bit by bit.

Another thing that happened when it went up so much, is BITMAIN, released a new batch of Antminer S9's. (Same Day) This has been a trend in people buying up lots of BCH in order to purchase the Antminer's. This in correlation with Bitpay, and Coinbase is definitely the reason for this huge spike. Look for a 30 percent spike, the very day Bitmain releases their next batch. Make a note for yourselves.

I don't think we are "due" for a correction, the mechanical moves are way different now than they were in 2013... More adoption, more big players in the game and not as many sellers. I say we are due for a parabolic move to the $50K range (240% up move) before we see a correction. Weak sellers got shaken out already, now it's gonna consolidate and push higher.

Ivan, the whitepaper isn't necessarily the strongest focus for the larger block sizes. The majority of new users will very much be unwilling to "look under the hood" so to speak with regards to how their transactions work-- similar to how few might understand the inner working of the combustible engine. Eventually, the users of the blockchain network will look elsewhere for this new "commodity" as we've defined it; that is the ability to transact securely and autonomously. And so it's begun; exchanges, buyers and sellers, corporations are all looking for ways to alleviate the thruput issues. ETH, LTC, BCC all seeing brighter. After that XLM, Waves, ADA, NEO... all marketing to offer faster thruput. It will be a real world test to see the winners. Interesting times.

The real danger for BTC it being previously billed as "digital money" to becoming "digital gold", or from "tender of value" to "store of value". Once that perception sticks, against the backdrop of competition from alts that are innovating and scaling, it's going to be very difficult for BTC to shake that reputation and Core risks languishing as the Earthlink of blockchain.

Masiosare II It is the market that decides the utility of an invention not necessarily the inventor. History is full of examples where an inventor meant their creation to be used in a particular manner in the market decided that the application was better utilized elsewhere. In 2009 with the world economic system in a shambles the white paper anticipated the need of a decentralize non-government controlled currency system. Bitcoin began As the means to fulfill that role. However just as with gold, it’s a value rose above the utility of daily use and was replaced by silver in most markets. By the same token we are seeing that no single digital asset, at this point in time of development, is not well equipped to All manifestations of holding and transferring value within a complex market system. This may change in the future for the moment We may have to live with bitcoin acting primarily as a store of value just as gold has done in the past but lacking easy transactional features. Other coins like BCH, Litecoin, Dash and others, Are vying to be the winner of the daily currency slot. We are very early in this process, some say we are still in the lunatic fringe phase on the brink of entering the early adoption period. We will see an evolutionary process as to which is best equipped to fulfill. Of course all this would work out better if Rodger and Company would stop spamming the bit coin network And let his pet coin-operated stand on its own.

I think my understanding of the scalability issue is foggy. I have watched several videos on the topic from Ivan on Tech as well as Boxmining, and still dont understand this most likely simple aspect. I am confused why increasing the block size is detrimental to the blockchain down the road. I get that each block is larger, but if the same number of transactions needs to be recorded, why does it matter whether those transactions are stored in a single 8 MB block or 8 different 1 MB blocks?
@AnarchistMetalhead
@AnarchistMetalhead 6 жыл бұрын
with off chain transactions they are not in any blocks you lock up the maximum of transacted funds over the entire time the payment channel is active in a common address, and create a return transaction from that address every time you transact that return transaction gets renegotiated the blocks stay at 1MB, on chain transactions remain expensive, and you have to have funds locked up with someone else to transact for nearly free off chain payments then don"t happen directly person to person unless you already have a channel together, but with however many intermediate steps in between as needed to create the connection, likely large payment providers being those intermediaries. bitcoin cash doesn"t use those off chain transactions, instead increasing the size of the blocks, so more transactions can happen on chain

BTC vs BCH, On-chain vs Off-Chain, Segwit vs Bigger Blocks the winner will always be the more useful one. The free market doesn't really care about debates.

Man you are a boss! Love your accent :D. Very well said. so many people buying coins under 1$ because they think they are cheap... We are absolutely getting into a bubble right now, correction is imminent, new people will loose money.

This price drop is caused by nothing but network clog. This isn't likely to be solved except we see a layer two solution soon. 250K+ txs stuck in mempool with 7tx/sec on average.
