I haven't seen anyone explain Persona Q yet. So the Persona games/shows/movies happen (mostly) sequentially within the same timeline, which means the P3 cast is older than the P4 cast, who in turn are older than the P5 characters. Persona Q has clocks everywhere because there were some time shenanigans that summoned the P3 and P4 characters to the same place, despite being from different years. Same with PQ2, just add the P5 characters. And no, the cute animal mascots aren't Personas, they just look like that. As for why clocks appear in Persona 3, this is the game that introduced the calendar system where you have a certain number of actions each day. There's also the Dark Hour (25th hour of the day where only certain ppl can move), the impending doom of the story, and the theme of treasuring every moment of life because you never know when yours will end.
@josegabrieltxАй бұрын
Each persona game has an unique theme The theme of Persona 1 is about finding your purpose in the future and in life The theme of Persona 2: Innocent Sin is about denying some awful things that a person commited in the past, overcoming traumas and it has some unique things about making your dreams come true the easiest way The theme of Persona 2: Eternal Punishment is about the fear of what you can turn in the future, ''what is an adult in the society?'' and there are some adult themes too like corrupt politics, relationships and some other mature stuff The theme of Persona 3 is about accepting the death. It's like accepting the future and it has some depressive moments. Live your life to the fullest The theme of Persona 4 it's to accept and be who you truly are. Everyone has your own sexualities, personalities, goals, dreams and similar things. If you keep using a ''mask'' in the society and not being yourself... One moment you will collapse And the theme of Persona 5 is about revolution. Teens vs Adults who are using the highest positions of society to do whatever they want. The whole Persona cast mostly interacts more with each other in the spinoff games. The best way to play the mainline games is the Base Game + editions as it contains the full base game with additional extra content. Persona 3 Reload is a full remake of Persona 3 FES updated for modern hardware. Persona 3 Portable is special in the sense that it let's you choose your gender at the start and that changes your playthrough significantly as it changes how people actually interact with you more than just switching up the pronouns being used. To answer what's up with the guns and the masks, each set of games has a different way to summon a character's Persona; 1 and 2 have them like JoJo stands basically, 3 has them shoot themselves with the (fake) guns, 4 has them breaking tarot cards, and 5 has them ripping off masks. For 3 and 5 in particular the summon methods are very much tied to the general themes of the games (e.g., 3 has a lot to do with death, acceptance, and making the most of your time, while 5 has more to do with society, rebelling against it, and the restrictions it can place on expressing yourself). Each set of games also has a different main protagonist (or two of them for the Persona 2 games), which is why Joker was showing up so much near the end; he's the main character for the Persona 5 games (besides Persona 5 X)

Persona, as a series, is itself one of many spin-off series of the Megami Tensei franchise, which has been huge in Japan since the 80’s. Since Persona 3, the Persona series has widely taken on a life of its own and outsells mainline Megami games outside of Japan. I massively recommend getting into Persona, specifically with either Persona 3 Reload or Persona 5 Royal. Both games are life-changing and work equally well as an introduction point for someone who knows nothing about the games.
@lefishe5884Ай бұрын
To tell you a bit about the games, they play as a sort of half visual novel, half turn-based RPG centered around different groups of Japanese high schoolers. The characters, music, story, and sheer style are all world-class. For the fighting sections you can think of it a lot like Pokemon (even though this franchise developed that system 10 years before Pokemon came out 👀). There are difficulty options too so the games are only as hard as you want them to be. I will warn you now that these games are long (well over 100 hours), but it’s absolutely worth it.

The Persona series was originally a spin off of the Shin Megami Tensei series. The game is about high school students who have a special power called personas and must use that power to save the world. but Persona 3 took the series in a new direction by making the game into two parts, a life simulator and a dungeon crawler, everything you do in normal life makes you stronger in the dungeon part of the game. The life simulator part has special side stories with side characters and party members called social links, when doing those stories your Personas become stronger and you get other bonuses. Thanks to that new gameplay formula, Persona became much more popular than Shin megami tensei, making Persona Atlus's new mascot franchise and after that it got a lot of spin-offs of its own. The games often get improved re-released versions with new content and story content, for example Persona 4 golden and 5 royal are improved versions of 4 and 5, and 3 Reload is a full on remake of 3 Persona 3 4 and 5 are not connected, they are in the same universe but you can play those 3 games story in any order you want. Every game has its own theme Persona 3's theme is death, it follows a group of high school students trying to cope with, understand and accept death in a world surrounded by it, as well as find their own reasons for living Persona 4's theme is "truth", as the characters overcome their own problems by facing themselves, helping them see past rumors and falsehood. 5's themes revolve around attaining freedom from the limitations of modern society: the story was strongly inspired by picaresque fiction, and the party's Personas were based on literary outlaws and rebels. but I would first play 5 royal because of the Handcrafted Dungeons, then 3 reload because it has many of the improvements from 5 and then 4 golden because it's a bit Rough Around the Edges but still great

Is he ok?” I love those reactions to evokers I was cracking up, I think everyone has a similar reaction at first but at some point it’s just so funny the idea of all of your favorite characters in a game constantly shooting themselves in the head in different ways 😂
@HorizonIncarnate21 күн бұрын
41:45 In P3 the MC (Makoto Yuki, or Kotone Shiomi if you're using FemC from Portable) is constantly shooting themselves because that's what triggers their Personas, the Evoker (The Gun they hold) represents them overcoming the fear of death. Same with Yu Narukami (grey hair, glasses, p4) Crushing a Physical Arcana And Joker ripping his mask off. It's how they summon their Personas. And with Joker, his actual name is Ren Amimiya, but Joker is his uh literal persona that he has an outfit for where he has the mask on (Not the Stand, but basically his alter ego) the main Persona you see him summon (the black-winged Devil in red with the Tophat) is Arsene. And in 5 Specifically, your observations are correct, they are Undercover in certain circumstances, this in fact why they wear masks. Persona also has it's related basically sister series' from ATLUS being SMT (Shin Megami Tensei), and the newly released (and absolute banger of a game I'm playing as we speak) Metaphor: ReFantazio

the reason that dude shot himself in the head, is because first off its not a gun. its a thingy called an evoker. they do that to summon persona's, basically big spooky scary pokemon.

One song that I really dig is called "Everyday Mix". For context, in the games, there's music for everything you do and the one you hear the most is the music that plays when you walk around the town and do the normal stuff. This mix was performed at the live concert event back in 2017 which had the 3 singers of each game sing those songs as a medley and mix. It's one of my favorite songs because I loved it when they started mixing the artists for each entry together back in the p4 era and when they still do. kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5uveXqda8ejaNk

Yeah, the music quality doesn’t end with just the openings. P3 onwards, also known as the modern games tend to have the great music the series is known for. The game themselves are turn based party combat games. Listening to the combat songs or even the day and night time ambient songs are great.

@Dime_Guy98Ай бұрын
If you like the music here I recommend you listen to all persona battle themes, a lot of them are even better than these openings,and like the openings, they are vocal tracks. Also each game has a dedicated vocalist, and persona 3 has the rapper as well, so you can hear how each games vibe differs with each of them. For example, you kept talking about how much you messed with the p5 vocalist Lyn, who probably has the most battle themes out of the other vocalists because of how many persona 5 games there are. Only other vocalist who probably has more than her is Lotus Juice because he’s in so many versions of persona 3. (Side note, personal 3 actually has another vocalist for the female protagonist in p3 portable, and another one who replaced the original in p3 reload, but the rapper is the same.)

lol you'll get answers if you check out more but till then... 3 to 5 are the "important" games personas are essentially stands, that never changes regarding the masks and shit, think of them like costumes more or less the games are (stupid long) rpgs that follow a group of high schoolers as they awaken the power to summon a demon each game is a little different, from the way personas work, to, obviously, the story of how why and what's going on you follow a different group of people who in some way or another get involved in magic bullshit and it eventually leads into what you'd expect from a well regarded jrpg 3, 4, and 5 don't really connect but (to my knowledge) all take place within the same timeline of events, usually years apart but still i think thats everything i can clarify as of rn lol I hope you check out more from this series that I hold almost too dearly

To answer some questions, Jojo's came first, the butterfly is Philemon, the being who in the first three games (Persona 1, Persona 2 IS and Persona 2 EP) granted the protagonists the power of Persona, he's not really an important figure in later games as I believe from 3 onwards takes place in a complete other universe, but his butterfly form is symbolic of the protagonists imminent awakening to their power. As for the Persona 3 summoning catalyst In universe, at the time, research in Persona and other such fields were still young, often being mistaken for psychic powers, and the only way one had been witnessed to manifest was during a life or death situation. The Evoker's design, and function, is meant to trick the body into getting into the mode for such a situation, essentially triggering the summoning through the fear for ones life. There was talk of a scrapped mechanic in three where the evokers would have to be loaded with cards containing the Persona, but it's more or less confirmed that they are summoned through either self preservation or sheer force of will. Over time other catalysts for the formation and summoning of Personae were discovered, but the initial summoning still seems to be based around a great emotional or mental upheaval. As far as other catalyst experiences go, Persona 4 introduced the fact that Persona are just powerful shadows formed from the negative emotions and thoughts within a human, that gain power and malevolence when they are denied. The catalyst for forming and controlling a Persona in that instance, was the acceptance of their repressed feelings and thoughts, the Arena games hinted that if a persona user is afflicted with a great despair, their Persona can revert to a shadow form and go berserk again. This could be described as the most "Natural" way a persona can be gained, and the most controlled they can be, as the user can either give them commands, or let them do what they want, and they'll guard their user and others near them on instinct. These Persona take the form of a card when they're being summoned, and the user has to shatter the card in some way. Persona 5 is the release of negative emotions, letting out frustrations and anger at personal injustices and society, essentially, a persona summoning in this manner is a controlled psychotic break, the user just channels all their rage into unleashing their persona, which is why instead of the usual spell circle with arcane mist surrounding the persona, their summons are surrounded by blue and black chains, they're reining in and focusing their anger. These Persona take the form of a mask that the user has to remove to summon them. In all these instances, the power of Persona is referred to as "the power to control ones own heart." The fear that grips it, the acceptance that calms it, the anger that corrupts it.

Someone else probably already said this, but to clarify: Every numbered Persona game has a completely different plot and a completely different cast (and a different way to summon their personas). Here's a list of each game, and what they are, in case you wanted to play them and know which ones are mainline games, remakes, spinoffs, etc: Persona 1 (Persona Revelations) - mainline game Persona 1 PSP Remake - remake Persona 2 Innocent Sin - mainline game Persona 2 Eternal Punishment - sequel to P2:IS Both of their PSP remakes Persona 3 - mainline game Persona 3 FES - definitive version of P3 Persona 3 Portable - PSP port of P3 with added alternate female protagonist Persona 3 Dancing in Moonlight - dancing game spinoff Persona 3 Reload - modern remake of P3, allegedly to test some stuff for P6? Persona 4 - mainline game Persona 4 Golden - definitive version of P4 Persona 4 Arena - fighting game spinoff (with some returning cameos from P3 cast) Persona 4 Arena Ultimax - another fighting game spinoff (with more returning chars from P3) Persona 4 Dancing All Night - dancing game spinoff Persona 5 - mainline game Persona 5 Royal - definitive version of P5 Persona 5 Strikers - direct sequel to P5 Persona 5 Dancing in Starlight - dancing game spinoff Persona 5 Tactica - idk but chat says it's a strategy rpg spinoff so I'll believe them Persona 5 Phantom X - gatcha game spinoff? sequel? it follows another cast of characters but like they work with P5 so it's more of a next generation thing or something, idk it's not even out yet afaik Persona Q - P3/P4 crossover spinoff Persona Q2 - P3/P4/P5 crossover spinoff

about Persona summoning, since you were confused about it in Persona, the titular Personas are summoned in four different ways in Revelations: Persona/Persona 1, Persona 2: Innocent Sin, and Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, the characters can summon their Personas whenever they would like, similar to how Stand users in JoJo summon their Stands in the Persona 3 games, the characters use a model gun called an Evoker to summon their Persona, as I believe it's supposed to symbolize them visualizing death (though it should be noted that when some of the Persona 3 characters return in Persona 4 Arena and Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, it's revealed that they can summon their Personas without the Evoker, likely because of the final act of Persona 3) in the Persona 4 games, the characters summon cards that they then crush in their hand to summon their Persona, but I didn't really care enough about the game to find out why in the Persona 5 games, the characters have disguises they wear, and to summon their Persona, they have to rip off the mask they wear, symbolizing embracing your true self

listening to the in-game osts would take a long time, but if you're interested i recommend checking out the battle themes first, as those are widely considered the best songs in the games. there's a very well made video called Persona - All Battle Themes 1996-2020, it's long but it covers most of the games. though since Reload released in 2024, it doesn't have two songs called It's Going Down Now and Don't which are some of my favorites in the entire series and definitely worth checking out as well after that if you've got the time.

The butterfly comes from a chinese poem, which is in the first opening (in japanese in this video so you couldn't read it) "I dreamt I was a butterfly. I couldn't tell I was dreaming. But when I woke, I was I and not a butterfly. Was I dreaming that I was the butterfly, or was the butterfly dreaming that it was me?"

Persona 2: Rumors become real and chaos ensues. Persona 3: A sickness and a secret hour that occurs after midnight. Persona 4: A mysterious streak of murders and a world within the TV. Persona 5: A group of Thieves that pull heists inside the mind. Persona is so go. It’s very psychological and supernatural. You definitely won’t go wrong playing them. Even the spin-offs are great. And all the OST’s are amazing.

Also each one has a weird theme sometimed. For like 3 each of them has a gun and has to pull the trigger on themselves to summon their spirit. In 4 all you need is a pair of glasses to help them. In 5 you have to become a theif adter tearing off your mask

Every Persona game has a different cast and unrelated stories (they sometimes are cited as an easter eggs in later games but they are 100% unrelated). They share a similar story progression that goes from "be a good student" on day 1 to "kill god" in the endgame. The evocations of Persona are linked to the main themes of the game itself. In Persona 3 they shot themselves with the Evokers (the guns they're holding) because their awakening goes toward overcoming the fear of death and find acceptance. In Persona 4 they destroy the cards they're holding, as they accept the hidden parts of themselves, good and bad. In Persona 5 they tear down the masks on their face as they try to unmask the injustice of the society. Also: Persona 3 is the base game, Persona 3 FES is a revised version with an additional final chapter, Persona 3 Portable is the psp version with some huge changes (you can choose a female MC with a slightly different point of view of events), Persona 3 Reload is the 2024 remake of the original+FES. Persona 4 is the base game, Persona 4 Golden is a revised version with extra content. Persona 5 is the base game, Persona 5 Royal is a revised version with extra content. Every other chapter (like Arena, ultimax, Dancing, Q1/2) is non-canon and a spinoff with a different game style

That “gun” in Persona 3 is called an evoker and is used by the characters to summon their Personas. On a separate note, the “Royal” in Persona 5 Royal is pronounced “Royal”, not “Royale”.

Each persona numbered game is it's own self contained story with it's own protagonist, cast, and take place at different points in time in the same world. If a Persona game has a sequel well...let's take Persona 4 for example, it has a sequel called Persona 4: Arena Ultramax that game will have the same protagonist as Persona 4 and take place not too long after and has the same cast and location. However Persona 5 has a different cast and location entirely. However you'll see things like a poster for a pop star who's a cast member of the previous game, showing Persona 5 takes place in the same world as all the other persona games just elsewhere. The reason you suddenly began seeing the protag of Persona 5 a lot was he had 2 sequel games, 3 spinoff titles and a remake. That gives you 7 Persona 5 centered openings. Yeah let's just say Atlas realized how popular Persona 5 was and RAN with it.

Right so, I'm pretty sure people have explained the summon in Persona 3 to you already. I've played the game a bit, and I've seen it a lot since I first saw the game, so I'm used to it mostly. And besides, you don't really think about that whole thing too much when you're trying to bum rush a boss to death or whatever. I just changed jobs, and I might get P3 Reload, so I haven't really looked at anything of it, understandably (I haven't finished the game and all) So, seeing the main character 'evoke' himself in front of a guy that's never seen this game before, played super straight, made me pause and laugh for like 10 minutes. And then the other characters just chain summoning right after that... Understand that it took me 30 minutes just to get through this section from cracking up. I'm sorry it came at your expense, but thank you for making me laugh, and merry turkmas.

The mask is P5 is thematic in more than one sense. Personas are "the mask" one wears to interact with others and the world around it, the way acts, its values and attitudes. In the game, the main group who call themselves "The Phantom Thieves" enter in the world of subconscious and that mask becomes quite literal in the way it serves to protect them from the surroundings and the Shadows, manifestations of the repress traits and feelings inside said subconscious and then they manifest their Personas in a way similar to Jojo's stands to fight them. In P5 they summon them through the mask more for the phantom thieves flavor than else. In P4 they are represented by Tarot cards and in P3 they use a special tool called Evoker to summon them. That's the thing that is mainly a gun they shoot themselves with to summon the Persona, again it goes with the theme of the game.

Persona 3, 4, and 5 each have a unique means for characters to summon their personas (reflections of themselves as people). Each one is symbolic of the game's theme. In Persona 5, each character wears a mask, when they take it off, symbolically revealing their true self, their persona appears. It's painful to do the first time because each method is supposed to be a personal challenge. In persona 4, they destroy glass tarot cards, obliterating this prediction of their future and swearing to find their own path (that's how I read it, at least). In Persona 3, a core theme is accepting and embracing your mortality, the action of putting the gun to your head and pulling the trigger symbolizes abandoning your fear of death and being rewarded with power.
