The 8x3 was offered as far as we know, he just wanted more AAV. I can't blame him, but at the same time this is a business. Stamkos' totals from the year paint a picture of him that isn't necessarily accurate either, given how poor his 5v5 play was for most of the year. It would've been prudent for the front office to reach out to him and let him know they were interested in keeping him, but only if the dollars made sense. As things stand it seems like Brisebois was ready to move on before the year had even started.
@mil21725 ай бұрын
I just got the sense that Tampa never truly valued him which sucks. I remember in 2016 that Tampa's offer which Stamkos would eventually sign was significantly lower than other teams. Yzerman basically said to Stamkos that if he loved being a Lightning, he will have to accept the contract even if it was less than his market value which he accepted because he truly did love being a Lightning. I don't blame him for wanting to get fair value for once in his career considering other teammates got fair market value for their extensions.

Today's NHLer's are greedy AF. Guys who get that big 8 year deal don't realized that there is only so much money in the well due to the salary cap and that there are up and coming players waiting to get their big 8 year deal. Once their contract is up, they still think they deserve a big chunk of change. You played and you got paid. If you're not willing to take a hometown discount when the big contract is up, move on. Teams want to stay fresh to compete. Don't blame Tampa one bit. You'll see this again next year when Crosby's contract expires. Same boat as Stamkos. Multiple Cup winner and face of the franchise.

Even Alex the great at 38 this season looked slow and out of his league. His production 5v5 has already fallen off a cliff, he's made up points by becoming a PP specialist but that won't work as well in Nashville. He's probably a 50-60pt guy in the 3rd year, 40-50 in the 4th . A million or two extra a year for the good feels is one thing, but Stamkos basically is getting twice his likely value over the contract.
