The dredge ship you see is the cutter suction dredge Hampton Roads. She has been working in the port for several years deepening the port for large container ships. They started a port expansion project in the late 2010s and are finished with the main project but keep finding parts they want to further deepen. When you have rival ports like Norfolk going to 56 feet so that the large ships don’t have to wait on tide and such, the port business is very competitive. With that said, the Port of Savanna has grown significantly and is now the 3rd busiest container port in the US. In addition to good port facilities, it had both good rail and road connections. Little wonder it has grown so much.

I lived in Savannah for 10 years until the spring of 2021 - this was a cool way to see this. I use to fly my drone up and down the river as well. Got some great shots of the river at 400 feet🌴

I watched the entire video. Fascinating. Staying in Savannah right now at a hotel with a partial view of the river. It’s nighttime. At the end of une video I heard the sound of a horn. It was a giant container ship going by! I’m going to try and figure out what times the next ships will come by and go out to the waterfront to watch. Thank you for this very informative, well-shot video.

Way back in the early 90's when the Raddison was just built,my ex-wife and I took the kids for a few days to Savannah.We had a 7th floor balcony room and I loved sitting out watching the river traffic and tug boats!

Wonderful video. I grew up near Savannah and my Dad worked at the Diamond Construction shipyard where some Moran tugs were built in the 1960's. It amazing to see what has changed and what remains after all these years. Thank you.

I live in Savannah, so this was VERY interesting to me!! I see these ships coming and going all of the time (I LOVE to sit on that beach on the river at Fort Pulaski and watch these beasts go by!!), but I never get to see them approach the dock! VERY cool!!!

Have been to Savannah and the River Walk numerous times. Have been on a boat in the river and passed container ships in and out bound. This was a completely different perspective of visiting Savannah. Passing under the Talmadge Bridge was a squeaker, and then turning that monster around was interesting.Great video , thanks.

Just amazing. Stayed in Savannah last year right on the river. Watching these amazing ships as they slowly inched under the bridge was amazing. Especially watching them at night. What an amazing sight to see and such maneuvering skills. Can't wait to go back.

Cool video! My husband was a deckhand, then wheelman on Crescent tugs in Savannah. He retired in 2018. I’ve been able to ride the tugboat and see the work from that perspective, but never from the ship! My brother-in-law and father-in-law were both river pilots in Savannah.

This so very interesting. I live 55 miles from Savannah and love watching ships come in and out. I took a trip down the river on the John W. Brown (a Liberty ship) back in 2002.

Great video, am a native of Savannah, now living in NC. Have been to the port a number of times, and up and down the river with Captain Sam, I believe was his name. My grandfather was a retired Merchant Marine Captain, and during my HS years volunteered with the local Preist to pick up sailors that played soccer against the Savannah team to get off the ship and have some recreational time. I got to go along and was invited to tour a few ships. Those were the days.

Awesome... thank you for this. If you're ever back in Savannah, stop in my favorite River Street seafood restaurant - Fiddler's Crab House. They've got an upper-deck outdoor dining patio where you can watch these ships as they pass.

Made it to the end. I live 30 miles outside Savannah. Visit often. Fish and just joy ride the Savannah River often. One time near River Street one of these beasts passed us in our 20ft Bonita. Looks like they are barely moving in the video but, in our tiny boat the wake thats made from these are awesome.

I love watching the ships transit past downtown. Ita incredible to me how the little river can carry these beasts! And also when they go by theyre often larger than the buildings and its insane!
