What the Switch 2 announcement means for Pokémon (and VGC)

Switch 2 has been announced! But what does this mean for VGC, and will we be getting generation 10 this year??

As much as it's grown I don't think VGC is big enough to dictate the game's release schedule. Especially as Game Freak doesn't actually seem to care about TPCi tournaments at all. I think we're not getting gen 10 until late 2026, and if we have to play a stale/recycled formats for a year then so be it. There have been comments by the top brass that they'd heard the SV criticism and might look to slow things down going forward. I don't see us getting ZA and gen 10 this year We've never had a Pokémon game as release title. They seem to do the opposite and release on the old console while the new one is out. This could well happen with ZA Also, even if it's ready it would make marketing sense to save gen 10 for the 30th anniversary year. I guess earliest I think we'll get it is Pokémon day 2026, but I think it will be later.

@@boo453 For your first point, I don’t think VGC is dictating the game’s release schedule but rather the other way around. The release schedule will have been known ahead of time and I don’t think it’s likely that VGC would be so rushed if they had four years to fill. Obviously this could be wrong, especially if they’ve changed the schedule based on feedback for Scarlet and Violet, but that’s just my take. Your points all make sense, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t get gen 10 this year, I just personally think that’s what’s likely. We’ll have to wait and see, I imagine we’ll hear about it on Pokemon day if it’s coming this year
