One of the layers of irony I really enjoy is the way her song and outlook is as much of a fantasy as the others', she just doesn't realise it when she's complaining about how the girlfriend isn't real or the cat people in space arent real or the life as a hooker isn't real - her being special and superior isn't real. This musical slaps
@DeathnoteBB Жыл бұрын
Yep. It’s the funniest part of this song. Of course when you’re growing up, you’re always taught the smartest and most successful people make the world turn. But in reality is the “organ donors” are the ones keeping things running. If Ocean hadn’t died when she did, she was in for a massive shock once she hit college or work.
@MrEzioCraft3602 жыл бұрын
Something I like from this song is the use of lighting. When she's praising herself, the lights are pink and vibrant. When she's looking down at others, the lights are blue and gloomy, like her facade has fallen down and you can see past her "innocence"

I absolutely love how Ocean is not a typical mean girl character. She’s a nerd but she’s also definitely a leader, maybe self-proclaimed, but she does seem to be “protecting” the group during scary moments (like in It’s not a game/ it’s just a ride). She’s pretty, probably knows it (something about her attitude towards fast-food tells me that..), but doesn’t seem to know how to “use” it or doesn’t value it really. And I love how she’s a little clumsy and her body language is a little childlike, especially in this song. She’s so innocent really. And I also like how she can be bitchy and sarcastic (like what she tells Noel while trying to prove everyone she actually loves them is hilarious), but also she seems so open and she’s smiling all the time. I guess you can say she’s TRYING to be nice, but my god she’s just so cute, like in this Every Story Has a Lesson part where she’s listening to Misha explaining the moral of Saw 5 and she seems so genuinely interested 😭😭 idk I just love Ocean a lot, there’s dimension you know
@kermitkc8 ай бұрын
I just found this comment and I couldn't agree more with everything you said she's my favorite😢😢😭❤️you worded it so perfectly. Even before she had her development, there was a little bit of innocence and "good" inside of her
@haventpickedanameyet25277 ай бұрын
Honestly shes kinda like the hated character in death games. People think she's greedy but most people would want to live, even if it means insulting or sucking up to people. Shes just trying to play a game imo, though she definitely could've been less rude. Anyway in the end she still wants to live but she wants it to be fair too, which I think she wanted from the beginning Plus shes bargaining and the most desperate
@Wheeinpaint6 ай бұрын
She reminds me of me back then. I was also a nerd but I LOVED leading the team, and also singing. I definitely did have egoistic problems as a kid
@DeathnoteBB6 ай бұрын
She reminds me of a lot of gifted kids. Some of us get our egos stroked so often we just believe it. She doesn’t even seem to understand how rude she’s being, like she gets it sounds bad but I think she genuinely believes she’s that important.
@DeathnoteBB6 ай бұрын
Oh also we (gifted kids but also people in general) _are_ often told the people in power are the ones that are smart and important and keep the world turning. So of course she thinks that, all the adults around her probably drilled that into her head. She has a lot of classism probably due to adults in her life treating the world like a meritocracy: so she thinks anyone who isn’t successful just isn’t trying or isn’t worthy.

One thing I love about this show is that the choreography during their songs matches the character really well. For example, a lot of the cheography in this is reminiscent of show choir moves or musical theater. She doesn’t stray, except for the hubcap move. Ballad of Jane Doe doesn’t include much physical choreography at all, while someone said that Constance’s song looked like the kids having fun, which is reminiscent of what the character would want. Something I've been wondering is if Ocean is the reason everyone else got on the Cyclone in the first place. I haven't seen the show, but they would have gotten in line as a group or else there likely would have been someone who wasn't a student in the car (like Disney will put in single riders to fill empty seats on 4 person rides if you only have three). These 6 don't seem exceptionally close, but them getting in the coaster together makes sense if someone decided to break the choir into groups to go do different rides based on what they were up to (a lot of people really don't like loop de loops). Ocean seems like she would have loudly started asking who wants to do what and would have taken anyone who looked apathetic or easily swayed to do the ride that no one else wanted to do because *leadership*. Ocean would also be the last to own up to that because she doesn't seem too aware of her own hubris, or might not even be aware of how her pushing affected others.

[OCEAN] Oh no What the world needs is people like me To keep it all spinning around I'm the mover, I'm the shaker, I'm the headline maker I get up I get up And no one's gonna keep me down Okay, it's clear I'm the top of this class These folks here, well they pump the gas Fetch me a coffee, shine my shoes Some of us are winners, some were born to lose You got the Sandwich artist, the security guard The Walmart greeter with an overdrawn credit card He smokes ganja, oh it's so groovy To stay at home and watch a transformers movie She serves me a Coke and a medium fries and No thanks, I don't want it supersized cause that's low class Diabetes in a cup Keep your head down and things will look up What the world needs is people like me To keep it all spinning around I'm the mover, I'm the shaker, I'm the headline maker I get up I get up And no one's gonna keep me down Seriously? This one here, he's raring to fail He'll rob a 7-Eleven and go straight to jail Maybe steal hubcaps, maybe steal booze Expressing himself with his homemade tattoos Soccer mom, minivan Four little brats, no steady man And do we really need another organ donor? (spoken) Maybe that was a little harsh, love you! Oh, Pokemon, Spiderman This kid doesn't have an attention span And what's he gonna do, solve a Rubik's Cube? (whispered) How long's he got if we feed him through a tube? What the world needs is people like me To keep it all spinning around I'm the mover, I'm the shaker, I'm the headline maker I get up I get up And no one's gonna keep me down And as we move through life to find our place in the crowd [CHORUS] Some don't make the cut that's crystal clear-o [OCEAN] Oh yes, oh yes Well isn't someone keeping score, I've gotta say it out loud I mean do we need another zero Or zero, or zero, or zero, or zero Add 'em all up and you'll still get zero What you really need is a Futhermucking Hero He'll never learn to read He's never gonna breed Going to jail, guaranteed And she's a freaky monster [CHORUS] Yes there's a problem [OCEAN] I'm the solution Darwin had a theory called [CHORUS] Evolution [OCEAN] He put it into words but it's plain to see We need a little less of them a little more of me Me, little more of me (riffing) I get up, I get up And no one's gonna keep me down [CHORUS] Some stay down [OCEAN] Down!

Oh ok. *Pays attention for one second before doing his own thing* 1:35 oh shit *Goes back to choreo* 1:57 *Happy Ocean dance* 2:21 what we’ve been waiting for 2:24 he’s never gonna breed 😒 2:28 AND SHES A FREAKY MONSTER! *Walks to side* 2:34 y’all know that one TikTok that says instead of “evolution!” It says “shut up Ocean!” I can’t get it out of my head-.. 2:36 NOEL CONSTANCE JANE RICKY AND MISCHA KILLING IT!1’ 2:41 Kholbys microphone being overlapped/barely heard😭✋ 2:43 MEMEMEME✨ 3:04 😀
