Replacing Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool was always going to be difficult, and from the moment fan-favourite Xabi Alonso withdrew himself from consideration, it felt like anyone else would be seen as a downgrade. So, when Liverpool confirmed the appointment of Arne Slot seemingly out of nowhere, it naturally left many associated with the club feeling bewildered and let down.
There is fear even among fans, dreading the notion of their club having hired their own Erik ten Hag-a comparison that was inevitable but also unfair. Indeed, much of the skepticism surrounding Slot seems to be rooted in the fact that he is also Dutch, and also bald, and for those reasons alone, he is seemingly destined to struggle in the Premier League.
It's a ludicrously reductive argument, of course, and there must be compelling reasons why not only Liverpool but other prominent European clubs showed interest in him.

Here's some context for Slot not winning the title this year. 1.Psv have the best season in history... likely of all Eredivisie teams ever! There are 2 easy games left to win and they even beat the legendary Ajax with Cruyff '71-'72 campaign. 2. Their squat was much more expensive -no more cos Slot further increased the value of his players so much. They have half a dozen players Feyenoord wanted as well but couldn't afford. 3. They beat us at home 1-2 while all relevant statistics like expected goals were for us, we also had the upper hand in Eindhoven which ended 2-2. And we did beat them in the cup game 1-0. 4. We lost 4 points in the 2 first games of the season cos our squat wasn't complete during the preparation weeks and we suffered an unfortunate red card. 5. Still, we scored more goals and conceded less this season and still could win more points coming just 2 points short of Feyenoord's best season ever ('72-'73 85 points).

The thing for me, is that Michael Edwards appointed him. If there's anyone with a proven track record for making astute signing based on data that most people don't see, it's Michael Edwards. Based on that, I think he has the potential to be a great manager, however... A) I don't know what his backroom staff will be like. I wished Pep Ljinders had stayed on especially but there's a lot of key appointments still to be made there. B) He will still need to win the fans around. As much as Klopp asked us to welcome him, and as much as most people will understand it might take time, he isn't the appointment anyone was hoping for. Everyone is gutted Klopp is leaving and most people are gutted Xabi Alonso wouldn't join. Perhaps quite unfairly, people will also be looking for him to make some iconic statement in his first press conference, the way Klopp once did. On a charismatic level, that will mean a bit of difficult work to really get the fanbase fully behind him. I'm eagerly awaiting it.

He will do great. Ten Hag is a mid-tier coach.who was lucky to have one of the best technical directors (Overmars) behund him. He gave him players like Martinez. Slot had NOTHING at Feyenoord. They could barely buy players when he started out, but he still managed to create an attractive playing team and become champions. Also, Ajax and PSV still have and spend a lot more money than Feyenoord on players. That's why PSV became champions. Feyenoord bought Ueda for 9 million. That's the most expensive incoming player last year. Meanwhile, PSV sign Pepi (13m), Lang (12m), Schouten (12m), Dest (10m option to buy), Tillman (12m option to buy) and already had expensive guys like De Jong in its team. Slot has two challenges: 1. How will he hold up against veteran top players? 2. Will the players adapt to the level of fitness needed to play his type of football?

This video has just strengthened my hopes for him “Slotting” (couldn’t resist) into Liverpool FC perfectly.
