Most gnomes are as uncounted as the goblins and orcs, they're not called the forgotten folk for nothing and you have to find them to take a census which is next to impossible with gnomes. But they are still the least populated civilized species, tends to happen when your kin blow themselves up in their discoveries.

I kept expecting you to mention Eberron. I know you focus on Forgotten Realms, but Eberron has some cool lore about Half Elves. Dang. Hope you get better soon. I was really hoping to get some lore about the afterlife of Half-elves, due to humanoids and Elves having entirely different instances after death, with elves essentially being reincarnated, and humans moving on to the outer planes, the official rulings as far as I had heard was that the ruling elvish councils were suppressing the information of what actually happens to them after death. (Although an old spell cast by a Jergalli cleric would be able to immediately tell the location of a soul's final resting place). Huh, aasimar ranger sounds fun to try~ Oh, actually I have a backup character that is, mechanically, a half drow from a loving union. This because the character they are backing up is the olderest brother, a full drow born on the surface world. The story there is that the full drow mother, while pregnant, escaped the underdark for whatever reason (she’s never revealed this to her children at least). She gave birth to her son, my current character and raised him as a single mother for a time before she met a half moon-elf ranger man. The two fell in love and eventually married. This man became my character’s step father and his father of his heart. It’s a very loving father-son bond between them and my character even took up ranger skills from what his step-father taught him. Anyway, this union is obviously a loving one so my character has three younger siblings, all at least half drow and a quarter moon elf and quarter human. I figured half elf drow is the best route mechanically for these characters. So yeah, my main character is a full drow, but the backup characters are his three sisters who are half drow. As for why I made back up characters…uh well, the campaign is supposed to be a deadly one so I kinda was told to have one. I have updated their reason for joining the party in the event of their elder brother’s death with each session and combat to accommodate. So yeah, half drow from a loving union might be rare, but in the case of mine, I feel it makes sense because they are an isolated family and have been well established in existence for the canon of my particular table I play at. That’s my story at least. I’d love to hear other people’s on their half drow from a loving union. As for why my drow and half drow don’t have to fight to be nice, it’s because it’s well established that my drow is a worshiper of Eilistraee and is taught to be by his family, meaning his mother. So, with her protection his family has little need for it.

They also don't tell you that anything can mate with an elf and produce a half elf. From dragons and orcs to giants and pixies. everything goes. They mainly don't tell you this for game balance though, because having everything from the half-orc and everything from the half-elf in one character would be seriously broken...it would be biologically sound and very fun though.

The problem with the Gnome population is that, their "main" homeland is Lantan (I don't know if you counted that). And their are mostly below 1% but everywhere, so there are more gnomes out there, but they are very sparsely settled. And, a trivia about Dambrath - the Crinti (their half drows) were not just "Half Drows". They were descendants of half elven clergy of Loviatar, that were betrayed by human barbarians and formed the alliance with drows of the Underdark. After the years of intermingling with drows, they became the matriarchial Lawful Neutral/Lawful Evil theocracy with the church of Loviatar integrated into the structures of power. And they liked mingling with their human underlings so much, that you were considered "Crinti" if you were 1/16 drow, which meant that you could have looked just as typical human but still be considered a Crinti noble.

Back when the Forgotten Realms Boxed Set (AD&D 2ND Edition) came out in the 1990's, Aglarond was considered the "Land of the Half-Elves" as that region had the highest number of H-E at the time. As those sections were left open to players to develop (at the time), I had made it the "Official" Home of all Half-Elves in my campaign. But, things change.

Small point of order: LitRPG is more a writing style than a genre, and can and has been applied to more than just fantasy settings (even if fantasy is probably the most popular). My current favorite LitRPG is actually a superhero genre with an antivillain protagonist, titled Fluff (the main character wakes up one morning with the power to summon sister minions who, while obedient, are all basically chaotic silly-evil and revel in mischief in a manner consistent with kids who don't really understand villainy but think it's cool anyways; if the idea of an adorkable communist werebear, a sadistic wannabe biker-girl tryhard, and a three-bodies-one-mind racoon girl with a taste for trash sounds amusing, look it up).

There's one thing that I know that I feel like I have to mention. Human babies don't try to breathe until they feel air. There's something called water births irl that is literally giving birth into water bc there's no danger of the baby drowning until after they take their first breath. After all, you can't breathe while inside of a womb, and all needs are provided thru the tube that connects to what will be a bellybutton (and I have currently forgotten the name of the tube). And btw humans do have a swimming instinct that fades after some months, so young babies can swim better than some adults There's no issue with giving birth into water, but it likely isn't advisable to keep the baby under water too long so I can see the issue with the sea half elves, but it's not the end all be all if you know what you're doing

I guess it's not canonical for any official setting, but in our game world humans and wood elves are in a historically complicated relationship, and there is no strict line between humans and elves; half-elf is just one who happened to be born as not really a human and not really an elf. I don't know if somebody ever did this, but by how it is explained, I assume among the group of full-blood siblings, some may be considered humans, some - half-elves, and some elves, while they all will probably have a comparable life expectancy. But half-high elves are just kids of humans and high elves, and they are pretty rare because high elf needs to remove a stick from a certain part of their body to engage with somebody who isn't from their country (-and then they wonder why they are all relatives and suffer from genetic diseases outbreak-). Other elves aren't a thing (DM continues claiming that drows exist, but there is no information about them, and nobody has ever seen them; Youan-ti are elves for whatever reason, but there are not enough of them to talk about half-elves).
