Im curious, what are your thoughts on short form? And for the creators, what are your strategies creating content to reach the audience you want?
@bigrob029 Жыл бұрын
I find it hard to invest the time to make a short video to then release it into such a volatile space for it. I generally see something funny/interesting while im out and about, record it, throw some fitting music under it and call it a day. that'll do 1.1K views. When i spend 2 hours on a 59 second edit on content that is related to my channel it will get maybe 20 views. I'd probably rather have my long form stuff get the 20 views.

Im not searching out my favorite youtubers (which are mostly instructional) for short content. I only learn from their long form stuff.... which is what they do best anyway.

If I were to do short form I would create a separate channel for shortform content that way I separate the analytics between the two and dont dilute the two channels

As a video game content creator, the goal of my shorts is to highlight some key moments from my LIVE streams and bring in more to my community. unfortunately obtaining that transfer is rough.

I'm old (45)... I hate short form Even on my phone i prefer tilting my phone 90 to get wideframe . In general, I try to ignore short videos and more so... ignore channels that begin to post them.

Finally Someone talking about this ,its so true that short form content is not only ruining attention span of the views but is also diluting the brand of its creator, shorter the video you make the more people will watch it whole ,coz average attention span is so low if im not wrong its even less than 8 seconds ,it doesn't allow us to create a story , build a personal level connection to the viewer which is one of the most important way to gain their trust , and i totally agree with those two strategies! Ill surely give them a try and get into making long form videos

thats really interesting, I always kind of didnt know what to do with short form content bc of some reasons that you mentioned in this video but viewing it as a tool to hook and connect with your audience more efficiently might actually be the solution for this problem

@4WheelingSA Жыл бұрын
Very good points raised! I feel the short and long should compliment each other. For example make a short from the long form and link them. Or make a short video of something you need to share quickly.

Thank you so much for your insight because I felt like I'm the only one around who thinks the same. I actively evade watching shorts for the negative impact on brain but as you pointed out, mostly they are just bunch of highlights that tells no story. Also great tips for changing the rate of long content viewers!

Short form is for extra exposure, bonus etc only. Long form is the way still but some people do only short so know your audience as they say.
@JamieFenn Жыл бұрын
Yup. But the problem is you attract two different audiences for two different styles of content no matter what on one channel. And that's a no go for me.

i was thinking about this the other day. I made a short Reel video for a local professional indoor football team and then the next week their other media person released a bunch of videos and im not yankin my carrot but you could feel the detail and excitement from mine vs the auto generated clips they put together. if creators focus on pushing content out that is emotionless more and more people will follow and that sucks for those of us trying to create connections if you get what im sayin.

I'm entirely with you on music (as a former musician). Music pulls, helps development of your story. As far as short or long content: i find it incredibly satisfying when you can make an impact even with a few seconds. It is challenging though.

💯 agreed. A lot of people really don’t understand it’s just as important as the video. And it’s challenging for sure..

Part of me feels that YT might be risking its very raison d’etre by this relentless shorts push. I really hope it doesn’t want to become one of three short form players instead of maintaining its position as the long form king - something which it’s so good at. Keep up the great videos - long form, of course 😉
@JamieFenn Жыл бұрын
I think they are just trying to be a part of the crowd where a lot of the audience is consuming content. But I do believe long format is king. Especially for building an audience that actually cares about you. I dont care about the numbers of views people can get with shorts, it doesnt mean as much to be as having a solid community behind me. Which you are a part of. Thanks for the kind words as well. Cheers!

I hate shorts, but unfortunately tik tok has started it. It is easy to consume, but in the end, with no value, just for entertainment purposes. I am a photographer, and as you mentioned, I want to tell a story, if I upload a video, it needs to attract attention for more then 10 seconds. I hate shorts, I hate IG how it transformed to "tik tok" and youtube is forcing it as well. But what you can do when this is the current situation across all social platforms. People are getting dumb, not verifying facts, not able to consume so much information which is served these days. We need to slow down.

Honestly not a huge fan of short form content, things like Douyin and Tiktok require creators to post huge amounts of content just to compete, my plan is just to post a cut down version of my long form videos and maybe a fun or interesting short here and there. Short form content is ruining peoples attention span.
@JimRobinson-colors Жыл бұрын
I think that your product has to fit the store. Doing Fusion or Resolve for phone consumption is in a lot of cases, just a waste of time to watch. You are really going for a young audience with that decision, because us old guys can't follow small detail on a phone screen. Resolve and Fusion are desktop applications that should be viewed on a large format. But if your subject is cooking or even the stand-up comedy guy - you can watch on a phone - I feel that the most important thing is that it is clearly marked in the title if it's a vertical or short.

I see your content more as a filet mignon medium rare with asparagus and gratin dauphinois. Most of the creators in Kando were serving cheeseburgers with fries. Don't get me wrong, a burger is cool, but it doesn't take long to make or to consume and it's not very good for your (mental) health. When I'm on KZbin, I prefer focusing on something that would feed me in one go rather than zombie scrolling seeing the same images of paid influencer trying to impress their short attention span audience. Please keep doing what you're doing : Adding a ton of value to this marketplace without following each and every trends. Your content is super helpful. Thanks

I truly meant everything in the video. I do connect with people as much as I can, especially with music, an aspect many creators forget or don't do. This video would have been exactly the same even if I didn't say "this video is sponsored"
@JamieFenn Жыл бұрын

@@JamieFenn That's exactly what went wrong here imo. Why not make a video about broken shorts and another why musicbed is the best choice. From this video I still don't know why I should go with them. That'd show honesty and integrity plus your well meant strategy. Or maybe that's just me, not getting the influencer / sponsorship vibe where everything is a hidden ad.
