That compound bow is also dialed WAY down. For every 10 lbs of draw weight increase, the arrow speed can increase by 15-20 ft per sec (fps) & vice versa. (& yes most modern compound bows have adjustable draw weights)
@rhetorical14885 сағат бұрын
lol no kidding. you can see the arrow fly....agonizingly slow. a bow for hunting is required to be at a minimum 45 lbs and the arrow at that speed is a blur. this is maybe 30lbs at most... where teens start off learning.
@stevepowell49114 минут бұрын
Also note the 'arrow' head: It's an Archery tag head, so that slows the arrow down a lot. Also makes it easier to see and hit. As a compound archer, I'm used to loosing an arrow from my 60lb bow and hearing the arrow strike the target almost instantly. It's also a very flat trajectory. I also shoot LRP arrows and... I can catch the darn things with my hand: It's a world of difference in speed. So Faker McFaker from Fakersville really didn't cut an arrow from the air: He swatted an archery tag arrow from a low poundage bow. If it had been a real arrow: He'd have been a kebab before he even got to draw that 'sword'.

For anyone not understanding why a wooden sword in this context is bad: it's lighter and not a true comparison to an actual sword, thus the record being named as a sword record isn't correct. Doing so with a steel blade proves it can be done with an actual sword and introduces a true element of danger to the situation, which means it would slow a lot of people down for fear of injuring themselves. A wooden sword could cut you, yeah, and it'll hurt but a steel sword could more easily remove your finger. A lighter metal sword is also not great for a sword record though, because it circumvents the true weight of a sword and will be easier to swing more quickly etc. But hey, if you know Guinness World Record's track this isn't surprising. It's basically pay-to-win.
@kaltaron12847 сағат бұрын
It's not true that a wooden sword is lighter per se. Depends on the wood and thickness. For example I have a Bokutou that is pretty much the real weight. His bamboo ones are of course a lot lighter. Edit: Also can we note how bad his Tsukamaki is. I wouldn't trust a real sword with one like that.
@br4tuna5765 сағат бұрын
@kaltaron1284my man. Have you seen the width of the bokken?
@kaltaron12844 сағат бұрын
@ You mean the one that I own? It's a bit thicker than normal but the real factor is the wood. Most Bokutou are made of pretty light wood and weigh about 600g. Mine is of much denser wood (don't remember the type) and also a bit longer than standard so it come to around 1000-1200g. I'd have to measure it to make sure.
@br4tuna5763 сағат бұрын
@kaltaron1284 brother, there is no sort of wood with density even remotely close to one of steel. All wooden trainers are made three-five times thicker than metal swords. Now i see your point, that wooden trainer is the same weight as sword. That's because it was made to be this way. It's much thicker to compensate for lesser density. It's all basic physics and material theory. The toy used by the guy is clearly not a proper bokken, it's much thinner, much lighter, doesn't have an edge. Tricks with this object are far more easy, and even then this twink did a worse job than Tyranth.

I am not sure I agree with it being a "fake" sword, I always understood that a sword is just the format (and a check of a dictionary) of long sharp edge attached to a hilt commonly used for cutting and stabbing and any material can be a long sharp edge. It's just that we commonly perceive a sword as being metal because it is the most sensible material to create that blade because of the properties of metal. otherwise yeah totally agree with the video, if he was not trying to pass it off as real it would actually be a fun demonstration of the mythical "ninja" (as opposed to the documentated historical version) skills
@foldionepapyrus34417 сағат бұрын
There is the element in your description that invalidates this as a real sword though - "used for cutting and stabbing" as a bamboo sword can do neither in a real sense. Great you made a sharp enough bit of bamboo to cut through exactly one sheet of paper before it has no edge again and might as well just be a stick... It wouldn't have to be metal, but if you are going to call it a sword it had better be able to actually cut and stab rather than being an overly ornate cudgel dressed up to play pretend.
@huldu7 сағат бұрын
It boils down to what is the definition of a sword and I think most people would agree that when the material is plastic or wood it's not a "real" sword but more of a practice sword or what you would call it. Just like if you were talking about guns and you have a blue plastic toy that fires a dart with suction cup on it, that's not a real gun and I think we can all agree on that.
@daphnetilling60346 сағат бұрын
@@foldionepapyrus3441 so from your description a bronze age sword would not be a sword because it does not hold an edge for long and needs constant maintence. My point is that the qualifyer for a sword is not its material but its form and function. yes a bamboo sword will not maintain a point or edge as long as a metal sword but it does hold an edge and a point and bamboo specifically can hold an edge for a long time in general. yes it will chip when struck but then, as Shad has proven, so does the mythical traditionally made katanas
@daphnetilling60346 сағат бұрын
@@huldu but that is my arguement, the definitition of a sword is a long sharp and poined blade that is attached to a hilt used for cutting and stabbing. And yes a toy dart gun is still a gun in the sense that it is a projectile "weapon" by definition. again this is what I mean about perception. in our minds a gun is a firearm that uses combustable material to propel a projectile out of it but the term gun can be applied to anything that propels something out of it from blow guns (though I would say pipe personally lol) to a caulk gun
@foldionepapyrus34416 сағат бұрын
@@daphnetilling6034 Bronze swords remain pretty darn lethal and will actually last in a fight about as effectively as iron/steel swords. What they can't be is as long etc as the material does have limits compared to steel. But they actually are really dangerous functional weapons you'd have to treat with respect. Bamboo on the other hand is just not a functional weapon when shaped into a sword - it won't just lose the edge bashed against another sword/armour it will lose the edge (if you bothered to give it one) and probably fail to cut even against unprotected flesh - perhaps you gave them a nasty splinter or two, but probably not even that as the edge explodes... Might hold up well enough to a thrust if the material is selected and shaped well enough to make this faux-sword, but ultimately you'd still be better off with just a stick if you want a real weapon not a sword like object.

Not really, a bamboo sword is just not a weapon, it won't survive a battle and probably won't even manage to harm an opponent as badly as if you'd just used a bamboo stick as a quarterstaff with no effort to pretend it is a sword... At best should the Bronze age folks have had a pointy sword like object it would be a training weapon, you wouldn't go calling it a sword without heavy qualification, and because it is so harmless anything 'impressive' done with it really doesn't much count - do something stupid with a steel or Bronze sword, even if its got a blunt training edge and the mass is going to make you suffer, with a real edge you probably don't get to do it again...
