I just planted my first crop and your videos have been really helpful! One thing I am still confused on is if I plant by PH or EC. My first crop is lettuces, tomatoes, and broccolini they are similar PH levels but not EC levels...Any advice on this?
@GrowYourHomesteadWithAngie8 ай бұрын
You plant by EC. Many plants will be happy in a PH range of 5.8-6.2. Your lettuces may not be happy with the nutrients of the tomatoes. As those are flowering fruit. If the EC is too high on lettuce it will burn edges. If the tomatoes are too low they won’t flower. Tomatoes also like Calcium like a CalMag which lettuces don’t really need. You will need to find a happy medium between those. As in run lettuce high and tomatoes low and see how that works for you. Thanks for watching!

Couldn't you use the same pump that comes with the iHarvest to drain it? Disconnect it from tube that runs through the unit and connect it to a separate tube draining it to a bucket or shower drain. You would need to buy extra tubing 6ft or so. Just a thought. Thanks for the other tips 👍
@GrowYourHomesteadWithAngie3 жыл бұрын
They don't make it an easy disconnect. It's snapped in pretty tight and snug to prevent any leakage and the best upward flow. I wouldn't mess with it unless I had to fully replace it. But maybe it could be done.

Some of your newer videos... did you add a 3rd light?
@GrowYourHomesteadWithAngie7 ай бұрын
I only ever added a light to the top when my peppers or tomatoes (can't quite remember now) were growing up to the ceiling. it was the same light bar that I used for my deep water culture tubs. Just moved it. other then that one time, no I have not added additional lighting. Thanks for watching!

I can't thank you enough for these videos! I feel like an expectant mother waiting on mine to ship, I'm getting everything ready and keep coming back to watch your videos again lol Do you use just the two grow lights that come with the unit? I wasn't sure if I should order an additional one from their site.
@GrowYourHomesteadWithAngie2 жыл бұрын
I only use the lights that come with the kit. The two on the stands are VERY bright and will be plenty of light for your growing. I am glad you are finding the videos helpful. There will be much more indoor gardening coming soon! :)

Can we use broccolini seeds from another company for the Iharvest? I don't see it on their site. Also, would i be able to grow cucumbers, zucchini, broccolini, lettuce, and strawberries at the same time? Thank you in advance!!!
@GrowYourHomesteadWithAngieАй бұрын
You can grow any seeds you want!! I purchase them from farm stores, dollar store, true leaf market, burpee, you name it! As far as the same time it “can” be done. But I recommend one grow cycle of plants that like the same nutrients together. The cucumber, zucchini, broccoli, some tomatoes, they all will do low nutrient at the start and once they flower you increase nutrients for the fruiting process. Which at that time would be too high for greens and lettuces. Strawberries also like lower but are very picky with PH levels. Many people grow those all alone. But you can experiment and you will learn as ya grow. Good luck. Can’t wait to show off my flower wall soon in a video. Been waiting for it to grow for a few months now! Remember always just have fun!

6:58 do you think it would be safe for the plant if you used the essential oil diffusor 24/7 near the plants with an oil the bugs didn't like? Double-duty for humidity and bugs?
@GrowYourHomesteadWithAngie2 жыл бұрын
I had thought that too and was always using peppermint oils in the unit. But.... after doing that for some time I have to say I got an oil build up on the top of the unit and was totally guessing it was from that diffuser. So now I just have a large humidifier in the living room I run because of our wood stove and don't have it right on the plants. :) Thanks for your comments!

Hello Angie! I purchased the iHarvest because of all your helpful videos. I don’t know when I will receive it, but you have convinced me I can and will be able to do this. I am not on Facebook so I hope I can continue to get your great tips on KZbin. In regards to the wave maker I have not been able to find the 1600 gph. At the aquarium store the salesclerk recommended I get two 565 gph. I visited Petco and they thought a 500 gph or even smaller would be sufficient. This week I will call around to other stores. Can you advise the absolute smallest wave pump that can be used for the iHarvest? We do not use Amazon so trying to find an alternate company to purchase from. Both stores I visited thought the 1600 gph is overkill. What is your advice? I appreciate your videos so much! Thank you very much.

Im so glad you were able to join the Live stream last night. I hope I answered your question. I believe you should be fine with the ones you purchased. Just remember that the tanks are around 14 gallons when you are letting the stores know. But honestly it's just to keep the water moving and not be stagnent in the tank and helps mix in the nutrients when you are adding them. I think you should be totally fine with a smaller one, even just one. Just aim it downward at the base of the tank so it kicks the water back up :) I hope that's helpful and thanks for being a part of the GWA community.

Hi Angie, thank you for your videos. I am considering buying an iHarvest, but I have noticed that more people have the Gardyn than the iHarvest. How did you decide on the iHarvest?
@GrowYourHomesteadWithAngie2 жыл бұрын
Well, I can try and summarize it for you. First I really didn't know much about the Gardyn when I was shopping. I was debating about the Tower Garden. But then stumbled onto the iHarvest. The Tower Garden is a big 360 unit making it hard to put up against a wall, or even in a corner. How do you harvest from the back? So first and foremost was the design as it's in a living space of my house. 2nd - Gardyn has a few things you can opt in or out of. One being their app (which you pay for monthly). It will tell you when to water, add food, look for bug issues, cameras all over. As an outdoor gardener and really not into all that high tech stuff, I didn't want an app, let alone cameras on my unit. Also, Gardyn has a monthly program of replacement pods and seeds that they mail. You don't have to do this but I just loved the freedom or feeling of freedom of planting what I wanted when I wanted. You don't need specific pods or net cups as you do for the Gardyn. (theirs are square) You can buy ALL accessories and replacements right off amazon. There is no feeling like you are locked into one company. I purchase all sorts of things online, from garden stores, and hydroponic stores. And I guess I would say lastly, customer service is 100% on point with IGWorks. You can reach out via Facebook, email, etc. and they are right there to help you. PLUS the Indoor Garden Works FB group page is amazing. Everyone is so willing to help you if you have an issue. I hope that helps a little bit. I have not used any other systems but Aerogarden but I don't know if I ever would. I have been very happy with my units. (You can also save $50 by using my friends and family coupon code: GrowWithAngie) .... if that helps. Sorry for rambling. Please reach out at anytime if you have more questions.

When do you put the little aluminum covers on your plant? After it starts to grow? P.S. - I love your videos btw :)... I just discovered this iHarvest and your videos a few weeks ago and fell in love! They're very informative and interesting! I don't have an iHarvest yet because I work and I'm in college so between school, work, and bills haha it's not something I can afford right now. But I love the information and the updates and I'm hoping with in the next year or two I'll have enough to buy me one!

I use the reflective covers after they have started to pop through the rapid rooter or the peatmoss. When there is enough of a plant start that I can gently add them. And thank you. I appreciate it. Doing more. Going to start my worm farm again. May do a vid of that at some point. And good luck with school. Someday you will be a great Gardner :)
@AshTheGreatness3 жыл бұрын
@@GrowYourHomesteadWithAngie what's a worm farm for?
@GrowYourHomesteadWithAngie3 жыл бұрын
@@AshTheGreatness you raise worms and use them to irrigate your gardens. Feed to chickens 😳 and it's a compost pile for your scraps. I will be feeding them leaves and greens we can't eat. Dead or wilted and it's a full circle. The worms also make black rich dirt. They eat the bad, poop out the rich dirt and you can add it to plants. Any water run off is pure rich food for plants too!
Sorry I missed your post. Honestly I am not sure. You probably could but really stay away from anything that is considered a “root” veg as the plants cant grow down and only up. But it sure would be worth a try!
