First sparring session I got beat up for 3 rounds granted dude took it easy on me but he's a naturally strong dude that competes in local MMA & boxing events here after about sparring the same person 5 times, I started getting the better of him and started landing cleanly. Biggest thing that shook me in my first spar was seeing how calm he was and that was intimidating AF. On the bright side seeing him so calm helped me develop that same calmness in spars & gym work

Many years ago: a friend who had fought in the streets of New York, then in golden gloves, asked me if I'd like to box. I said 'yes' because we were friends. We warmed up and put on gloves, and he told me to keep my hands up. Then he hit me in the head. I was shocked, but he just said 'Whatsa matta? Keep ya hands up!' and right then and there I got a new religion: keep my hands up.

lesson for beginners. if you train a rough gym. NEVER EVER complain, or try to get out of the fight. complaining about getting hit too hard, will make your opponent want to fvck you up. like bleeding next to a shark. if you get rocked and get back up with a bloody smile and say “that was clean” you will most likely be respected. just never complain. everyone hates that guy.

People who join boxing not for cardio but to box and refuse to spar can’t have my respect. I’m sorry cuz my gym has a 12 wrist band system to show who’s more experienced. Once you learned the basics in boxing you hit the first band. First band allows you to spar. Yet mfs got 4 bands flexing how good they are and they never stepped in the ring before and I’m wrist band 1. It just makes me mad they talkin down on me when they too scared to even come and spar me and others. It’s definitely an ego thing, it creates egos for goofys who ain’t got the fight mentality just like them little taekwondo and karate kids with their belts. thanks for this advice...needed to hear this. im one of those sensitive soul lol minus the crying. how would you deal with a sparring partner that you feel has 'bad intentions'? when we did counter-punching practice, i could feel he was starting throwing with bad intentions. i was landing lots of jabs clean (but very light) and he went for a hard counter right, which i did not see coming. that made me angry, so i went after him a bit, he went after me, and i could feel it was going to get bad. i told him to take it easy and we calmed down. i know this is boxing, but what should i have done as a beginner? hit him hard back? stop sparring? tell the coach (not preferable as i dont wanna be a bitch)?
@businessman7336 Жыл бұрын
When you get in the ring for real your opponent will be trying to knock you out. Getting used to this a little bit in sparring isn’t a bad thing. Don’t worry about your partner’s sparring etiquette, people will see that you’re sparring in a respectful and controlled manner and he looks like a fool.

I'm come from a karate background, my place did only light contact sparring at the dojo because we didn't use gloves, did some point sparring competition where got hit pretty hard. Had my first spar in a long while at a muay Thai gym, It wasn't the punches which annoyed me, I was just disappointed by my aggression, it just wasn't there. I had a couple of moments but a lot of the time I was just slipping and blocking a few punches then getting hit once or twice, then hitting for the body and head where they block it.

I've been sparring every day for 3 weeks. Last night was "that next level getting hit in the face" just good left hooked hard trying to dodge. Leaned right into it. Sounded like a gunshot. Gym went quiet, I finished the round just fine. But god dam it was hard, and actually happy that I'm finally getting hit, lol.

Today was my first sparring day, put on the gloves and got in the ring, Was hit hard with a right hook i guess i have a concussion, head hurts a little and sharp pains, what should i do ?

@@antisepticafq Take some headache medicine and see if it goes away. If it doesn't you need to see a Dr. Since this post I've had a broken rib and a dislocated jaw, lol. Took me awhile, and seeing new guys get hit the same as me to realize you have to muster the bravery to question your coach about it. To tell you the truth, after I confronted my coach about it, we haven't sparred anyone from our own team since. We only spar other gyms now. This is good because now, we know we have to fight to hurt to hurt someone. When it's your own team you have trust, and trust will get you seriously hurt. Lastly wear it like a badge of honor. 99% of people have never even been hit in the face, and you WILL get better and sharper. Don't quit. Make sure you take that medicine and go see a Dr need be. You should probably just make friends with the Dr. I've made good friends with my Dr and dentist in the past year.

I've been doing boxing on and off for 3 years, not consistent at all due to outside reasons, and got lit up recently by a teen. He was one or two weight classes bigger than me and he constantly comes to the gym. I can't seem to find someone my size, but oh well.

This guy from another gym, gym wars. He said he has only been “normal training boxing” for 5 months but he fought me like he’s been boxing for a year and a half. I only will believe him if it’s been 1 on 1 training but he said hiself that it’s just normal training. Also how do I get my nose to stop bleeding?? He basically “won” cause I was drenched in blood yet again, coach thought he had to stop it cause he thought I needed too. This was last week, it’s been on my mind for a while now.

I just got home from sparring, and, guys.... I got destroyed 🤣 my left eye blown out, my liver hit twice, and a TKO all in 1 hour of sparring, I backed off, I let my guard down a few times, how can I say I really want to smash my own face in, 3 years of practice and I'm still making these stupid mistakes... I didn't give up, I told myself that if I was going to get blown up I'd get blown up like a man, but the doubt is there

My first sparring session I got thrown in with a rough dude. Two head kicks and got kicked in the guts about 10-15 times. I got beat up but I couldn’t stop myself from pushing forward and taking more damage just upset me more. I felt like a loser after that but everyone else thought it made me tough. Idk it’s not the way I saw it. It feels helpless

One of my sparring sessions went bad as I wasn’t throwing back throughout the whole 6 rounds and just getting pinged I did lose some confidence in myself and what disappointed me was that I just didn’t do anything at all besides from throwing weak jabs so that’s something that’s just been messing with me

Typically we stop Sparring about a week before the fight to preserve yourself but if you are having pain still from the shot you talk I would train everything else but Sparring may be just body shots and jabs to stay sharp
