The first times I was tense, gassed out quickly, got hammered in the face... It blows your confidence out the window! Quitting went through my mind, but, dignity kept me coming back... I trained hard at home, with the slip bag, speed bag and foot work. Above all I learned the Philly Shell, I'm the only one in my gym that uses it, I learned to relax, breath, and feint. I learned to look for openings and land strikes... Sparring became fun, but it took a long time for it to happen. It's all in the head, learning how to not gas out is more mental than physical, keeping calm takes time and experience.

@@Boredtube2024 I was pretty big for my height. I think the maximum weight for someone my height is 155. I believe the lowest is 115. But I'm perfect where I am now. It wasn't hard physically, it was more of a mental challenge. For example; I always trained with the advanced fighters in my gym and whenever we ran, I would always come in dead last. And don't get me started on our sparring sessions🤣 Those guys used to destroy me but now I'm almost as good as them.

@@Nigerian_Super_Saiyan facts, thats what this sport its about train hwrd and become better with every new training, and i fell that drop kore than 30 lbs is hard, or it would be for me im 5'6 as well man and keep my weight always in 145lbs-153lbs, im fighting at welter weight and once i fought 1 time only at light weight but dropping 10 lbs for the fight made me feel so weak i cant imagine dropping more than 30 lbs, hope you can get where you want man, repsect!

I am 60 and started boxing a couple of months ago. Much to my surprise really enjoy it. Except perhaps for the sparring. I’ve been sparring a couple of times. and I always get the ‘deer in the headlights’ feeling. Luckily, my sparring partners have been very considerate. I guess I’ll just have to keep working on the fundamentals. Thanks for the video, I found it inspirational.

Basically what you described kind of happened to me. I joined a boxing club recently and literally off the bat they made us spar. Luckily, I have natural advantages like height, reach and athleticism so I could hold my own but I didn't feel like I was learning anything because I had no real skills committed to memory besides my long ass jab lol. Even basic things like keeping hands up were easy to forget. So I decided to fall back and and instead I am focusing on learning the skills properly starting from footwork etc before I spar. Great vid as always! You deserve more views bro.

I wonder if they make beginners do that to "weed out" who they deem too weak or maybe to see who has natural talent. Horrible coaching imo

@@juk1107Yeah it does seem that way. They literally put me against some semi amateur who was smaller than me but had 10 years boxing experience 😂 Not only that we werent even told to wear headguards. Granted he didnt go 100% hard on me, but still I had no real business being in the ring with him yet.

After school backyard boxing is What lead me to a boxing gym in the first place. First time I ever went into a ring with someone who actually knew how to box my nose exploded all over the ring, blood gusher style. I would’ve been 17 sparring a 14 year old who had been doing it for probably 5 years. Good times. 31 now.

First one is the thing for me. I could only last 15 seconds dodging punches and moving around throwing a jab. And this is the only time i looked good lol. @greengreensio
@greengreensio 3 жыл бұрын
In my experience yes, but you need to drill it with someone else. I used to learn the basic by my self for about a year. When i join the gym, i found out that half the stuff i learn does not work. And now it becomes bad habits coz my body is used to it.. so, not all moves on youtube works.. you need to find moves for your bodytype and drill it with some1 not the bag everytime

I got knocked out my first sparring session, it was only for a second and I fell on the ropes then got up and finished the round but I got a concussion. My opponent had 8 years but was abt 10-15 pounds smaller then me. It was abt 3 months after I started training and its been abt 3 months since, I'm starting back on sparing in abt a month but im not ganna lie im pretty terrified. I'm ganna ask my opponents for light sparring but its still scary. Not ganna lie though when you said a lot of people quit after not that bad of a sparring session i felt better bc for the past 3 months ive felt like a total pussy and am ashamed and embarrassed every time I go but I haven't quit so.

@YStizz
@YStizz 3 жыл бұрын
Huge. I learnt early on that if ur gonna fight in the street for what I’m assuming is self defence reasons. Ur gonna wanna train MMA or a combination of boxing and wrestling at a minimum. I’m alright at boxing and fighting but if u run into someone who knows how to double leg you and u got no takedown defence? It’s over

I just had my first sparring session with people who know what they’re doing last night. First round got my nose busted, went to the bathroom to clean it up, got back in there, took a punch to the floating ribs on my back, went down, got back up and kept sparring then went for another round and the guy tagged me twice in that same spot again on my rib. Just about finished the round but I think my rib is broken. Very hard to breathe or get up off the couch.
