I only take short trips. I’ve been having people add stops after I accept the original terms. I find these multiple stop trips to never be worth the effort so I always will cancel as soon as I see that they added a stop. NO DEAL! I took the L the first few times but now that I know what’s up I’m not doing it. I won’t touch a multi stop ever.

I hate the people who ask for a stop without putting it in the app and say I'll tip you. I was nice the first few times but now I don't take their BS. None of them tip when you make the extra stop. They play the victim card like it's their ride and it should be their right because they are paying for the trip. I don't understand the entitlement of people today! It's extremely toxic!

This happened to me a lot of times. Most of the riders changed the destination before I arrive at the pickup spot. This type of change is easy. I just tell them to cancel the trip or I myself cancel it. But those who change the destination after I started the trip makes a scene if you don’t act diplomatically, so your advice is good. With this new trip radar, you can see the price change and if it is as little as 5$, it’s about 2 block. If it is 15$ or more you better handle the situation as he explains it.

Ya know what. That is a sneaky (not so sneaky) move that riders sometimes pull to get that long ride. In the past I would have just smiled and said no problem even though I didn't really want to. Just would start filtering back to my neighborhood after the drop off. Now with uber's disappearing destination filters, that would really upset me. Thanks professor for the advice on how to deal with this. If it's too late at night, or my filters have vanished and a rider does this I'll remember these tips👍

The destination disappeared because you selected a Zone and said take me there. Like Air port and now surge , so it you select a surge $ amount it now ask you do you want to head towards the surge? If you say yes, Uber now uses a destination to get you there. BAM. 😢And they never told us about this either!

I always check their score and if I see it’s 4.6 or below score I come to a stop and text them this before I move any further: “hey I’m sorry but I just saw you had a really bad score and I have to cancel this ride for my safety” - yup 🙈🤣that’s what I text them then I wait for them to see text and immediately cancel. I do this because this lets them know that we as drivers do pay attention to their conduct and their score.

When that happens to me I just play dumb and keep following the google map directions and before I arrive to the destination I tell them like… did you just change the destination? And then I proceed to tell them that I already have a ride so won’t be able to take them to their updated destination while I’m parking to their original destination finishing the ride 😂 and telling them thanks for using Uber, have a good day and finishing the ride all that at almost the same time 😂 🤣 😅

If it looks like they might get belligerent or physical or you won’t be able to deescalate things then drive to the nearest gas station and ask them to get out there. They’ll usually be a lot of lights, cameras, and witnesses around, and the police can get there pretty easily.

I have had people do that to me and I refuse. I tell them I cant leave it anywhere except the address given. If it was several miles I would take it back to the restaurant and drop it off. I once had an uber eats order at sonic. I was in the drive thru as it was after hours. I got locked in by the car in front and one behind me. so no escape. After waiting for the car ahead of me to order everything on the menu 2x. I finally get upto the window and they tell me someone else has already picked it up. its a 2 hour trip right? no, its a 4 hour trip cuz we have to come back, NO profit at all and lots of miles and wasted time! I have done a few, but wont do again! I had one that I had to cancel. Lyft had not shown me this was a 2 to 3 hour trip from Tucson to Phx, My son was in the hospital, so I didnt want to go out of town. I canceled it. after the passenger got into the car and I opened the ride. I apologized and told her I could not go out of town right then, I wasnt prepared for it. Lyft "punished" me. They forced me to do 10 rides without any cancelations, or else my acct would be deactivated. I was livid. I was so damn angry with them, I let them know also. I finally ended up doing the rides. Very stressful to not be able to cancel a ride if I didnt feel safe or if it was going to a bad neighborhood. I wrote emails to them and did chat. They thanked me for doing the "punishment". Absolutely disgusting!

Not smart of passengers to do this. What if the driver was already on the road for 10 hours and extremely fatigued. Best thing if a rider has a long distant ride is to call the driver as soon as the ride is accepted and tell them how far out it is. If the driver can’t it can be cancelled quickly and rerequested.

Same here. I picked up some customers, we started her trip, and halfway through the trip someone who was with her realized they left their cell phone at home. She modified the trip to take her back home, they got their phone,, then we went to her original destination and I still only got paid the original up front fair. Added like 30 minutes to the trip.

That happened a lot in Jersey city NJ, the passengers request 3min trips and when you take them, they changes to New York City, but at the moment I end the trip and put “wrong passenger”, after learned the lesson, every single trip I call the passenger and ask:”what town are you going to?” Because in New Jersey we don’t know where the passenger go exactly and then if they change the destination I said sorry you didn’t told me nothing about that destination I refuse to go to the different destination.

IT is great to "de-escalate, de-escalate, de-escalate", but pulling over and calling out the rider already has them on the defensive and has already ESCALATED the situation. Your advice is about the best advice there is, but one way that has worked for me before is to tell the rider "oh, I'm sorry, I am already 11 hours into my 12 hour max day. The system is not going to allow me to complete the ride. It is best if we cancel the ride and you find a driver that is not at the end of their day". This has worked for me. Deflection of blame to UBER is always better than just saying "I am sorry, I'm not going to drive for 2 hours".

I had a DF on to do short rides around the afternoon rush hour. The DF was to avoid traffic mess. Pick up a guy and we start a 2 mile ride. In the middle of ride he adds a stop and makes original destination a stop and the new destination taking me exactly where I was trying to avoid. We get to stop 1. He says I will be right back. As soon as he went inside of the store I hit cancel and drove off. A few minutes later as I am picking up another rider I noticed the guy left his jacket and cell phone in the car.

In multiple stops the first thing I check is if they left something in the back seat, I usually tell them: You cant leave anything in my car between stops Uber prohibits it………They usually do it as an anchor so they can last forever to come back.

Riders hated me because I didnt allow ANY bad behavior that other drivers ALWAYS have and made illegal things part of the culture for riders so they expect it. And when you dont do it you're the villain. F that. No eating. Wont take unaccompanied minors. Dont allow stops to be added after trip accepted. Dont as allow 5 riders when car has 4 seat belts. Dont allow people to pile in my car before the one who requested the ride and ALL people are present. I would never allow 2 riders to enter on a 1 person pool trip. Never allow riders with more than 1 large bag on a pool trip. Small kids ALWAYS need carseats. After 3 mins wait time I'm out. And any slight disagreement or attitude problem before ride starts they get canceled.

I had a raider that added a stop out of nowhere when I drop them off. And the only reason o accepted that stop is cause was the baby sister going home. And old lady. Otherwise I will decline. Other times they want to add stops I tell them I have other obligations and I took the trip based on the original distance and time. Professor.Uber modified updated my trip from 10 dollar to 89.00 . I thought is same shit Riders fooling around. However 6 miles trip I accept for than turn up to 28 miles. The rides offer me 50 dollars cash to cancel it . Sometimes is weird. I declined the offer and end of the day I get 86.00 Uber pay. I have no ideas how much I appreciate Uber be so nice to me like I am winning lottery

I drop any ride I accept that gets modified before I pick up...But they are adding stops after I pick up they are getting cheaper rides and wasting our time it's frustrating as heck..Just make sure to drop them off in a safe spot not on the side of of the highway...or just drive straight to the closest police station...don't say a word just go to police station they can act the fool there.

Had a guy do this yesterday. They pretended to only speak Spanish. I finished the trip and gave them a low rating and rider wanted another direction.
