I've been playing guitar since age 14 , I'm 44 and I tell you one thing that has helped me get better in the last 3 years leagues beyond the other 28 years ..if my math is correct? To Keeping interested & keep playing & not putting it down .. KZbin has really changed my life period..when you get board with one thing do something else ,it's simple - for instance when you get tired of scales & chords pick up a bass or keyboard or drums even finger drums on your phone or concentrate on just tones on guitar..there are so many things you can do to switch it up but the single most important thing is never put your guitar down or away..keep it ready to play at all times & play it until you fall asleep with it & wake up with it ! Play your guitar as much as humanly possible..there's no easy way except to play it all the time you can ..I've been playing about 4-5 hrs à day for the last 3 years with maybe a day off here or there And these last 3 years have took me from a intermediate player to a skilled bad boy! Just play it all the time..play

You are a flipping lunatic (I meant that as a compliment) and whatever message or point you are hoping to make in your videos is delivered in brilliant, relatable and unique ways. It's obvious that you genuinely want to be a positive voice for, not only guitar players of all skill levels but, most importantly, just people in general who may not have anyone else in their world that speaks good things to and/or about them. I'm so freaking happy that I discovered your channel recently. Every time that I reach a point in my life where I'm ready to give up on humanity as a whole, someone like you pops up to remind me that there are still sincere, earnest, caring people on this planet. I’ve been playing guitar for like a year or two. There are so many times where i just stop learning a song, because it gets frustrating or i can’t get the part how it should sound. Then there are times i’m so unmotivated to play guitar that i don’t touch it for months. What really helps me is my friend. We don’t play often together, but when we do i see how good she plays and i have the want to play as good so i work really hard. I have yet to learn to play an entire song. This video helped me so much to remember that i have to pull through some songs especially when they start to get harder. The only song i can play comfortably is from a game. It’s just tab and everything is pretty easy except for 10-15 seconds in the middle. I always try to play it how it sounds but i can’t get it so i just pick a slightly different rhythm and speed and it sounds like it belongs in the song. I feel like it’s important to realize that speed and rhythm is changeable and still sound right. That really helps me learn notes. Thanks for the tips. All of them are just so basic, in a good way. They’re so easy to forget. Just hearing them all together really helps to remind that it just needs a push or a change in how you learn or play.

The reason 90% of people stop playing guitar is not because they don't have "talent", it's because they quit. Promise yourself 3 months, and you'll get over that initial learning curve. Then pick 3 beginner songs to learn for the next 6 months.

I was ridiculed daily for the first 7 years .. you don’t owe the world anything , this is your journey .. if you don’t have anything prepared , politely decline the invitation .. it took me 6 months to learn a C chord , 2 years to learn an F chord & 10 - 15 years to understand the mechanics of a key / mode . You will learn faster than me .

Stuart, you are right! Dude I can so relate to what you are saying! I still struggle to get my chords clean and escape the nasty fret buzz. I can play some basic things but I cannot play as well as I would like. Fortunately for me, I have played drums for many years and thus I understand rhythm well. Small fingers (my hands are the size of a 10 yr old) make many chords difficult to play clean and have all the necessary strings to sound. Especially on bar chords.

Uncle Stuart this video is amazing. I've been playing guitar for a few months now and when I first started I was absolutley terrible, I couldn't even do power chords, and when I would do them my fingers would want to fall off. But it was though you, you and your videos and teaching that I was able to be able to play those power chords, play those songs that I love, and just enjoy myself. By no means am I good, but im having fun. As for other parts of my life it isn't that way, there are a lof of things that I'm not good at, im insecure at, and there are interests that I've been struggling to find motivation for, but this video helps. Its nice and comforting to know that everyone starts and ends up in a similar place, starting out not knowing what to do, and being bad at things. And it is nice to know that other people feel frustrated and sad when stuff isn't going your way even though you pour your heart and soul into something. My life is crazy right now and there is a lot of stuff I need to figure out but this video gives me hope that everything will end up alright. Great video, love you unc.

Sing to yourself or listen to it untill you can hear it ringing in your skull. 2nd Play along with pros. Pop in you favorite CD and play along. Ill do this over and over untill I can play it. Over time it trains your ear and gets easier to learn songs quicker...

Great advice. When I first got a guitar I learnt the C chord because in school it was all about C….but then bing lazy and thinking all chords would be that difficult I went straight to rhythm and would just slide that shape up and down until I found positions that worked together. That was so much fun I wanted to know other shapes you could do the same with. Eventually I wondered about the chords I was actually playing and learnt the theory I’d got bored of in school.

I played Bass in some garage bands in the 60s/70s and sometimes we were playing crappy and other times decent. But we always had fun no matter the outcome. Playing for fun is the best method for me. I do not think of it as a job in that sense. The past few years I have taken up playing electric guitar as well as still playing my basses. You will have good days and bad, thats just part of it but keep at it and have fun. Also the Jimmy Pages, Jeff Beck, Eric Claptons all had to start somewhere.
