General rule of thumb for luxury bags: they are branded every where - rivets, buttons, zipper tabs, etc. There is also a leather "authentication" insert on the inside of the purse, which will give a code number. You can look up that serial number and it will give you the name of the item and often the year, season, and if it was sold at an outlet or not. Those would be the starting points. ❤ Sorry you had to go through the crummy buyer experience, but thank you for turning your bad experience into a learning/teaching experience for us. ❤

@@darleneaitken1620 I bought a heavy unique necklace at a thrift store for $2 stamped Tiffany 925. I took it to a silver and gold shop and they paid me $50. The stamp looked questionable so I didn’t want to list it online(couldn’t find an exact match using google), but I don’t feel bad taking it to someone who specializes in precious metals. It sounds like this situation could have been a bit less challenging had your buyer provided more evidence and a paper trail from her purchase or the item from you. Certainly pictures and receipts would have offered more clarity. I agree that, ultimately, the buyer let too much time elapse to address the discrepancy and didn't take the proper steps to ensure their sale of the item was accurate to her buyer. It seems like a classic case of the pot calling the kettle black. I admire you for sharing this story, as it helps all of us resellers to authenticate, know policies, and offer grace to the other people in our industry. The buyer seems like they needed someone to blame, and they chose you. Hopefully, they will gain some accountability skills in the future. I respect your candidness here.

@TheNurseFlipper I came in at the end of the live and mentioned that on Poshmark if it's an authenticity claim the three-day rule does not apply. There is basically no time limit on returns for replicas because they never should have been sold in the first place. This should be true on all platforms as it's illegal to sell replicas, but I can only speak to Poshmark. However, on Poshmark I think people have had similar issues with purchasing in live sales. It's harder to fight a purchase if there is no official listing (Poshmark allows quick list items). In this particular case, where so much time has passed and there is no real record of the buyer's purchase I agree with you denying the return. I also agree that it is 100% on the buyer to have an item authenticated before they list it if they want to turn around and sell it again. I have learned a lot about luxury bags over the last year and use that to check over bags from trusted sellers and/or that come with COAs.

My opinion is you are totally correct. I sell on ebay. I don't care who I get an item from or how much I trust them, before I sell anything on ebay it gets tested by me. This lady obviously is not the one to be trusted. She obviously has no place selling anything if she thinks this makes sense. She was wrong not to test item before listing it, and now she is wrong for expecting you to take a return on item sold over 9 months ago. That's just flat out ridiculous. She needs to take a good long look at her business practices and reevaluate herself. She obviously had ability to test item beforehand since she tested it once her buyer returned it. It was her laziness that caused her to get return not anything you did. Some people just frustrate me with the way they think, or don't think I guess I should say. Now if i decide to relist them.I have to list them as used.My question is should I play dumb and eat it as the cost of doing business.Or should i push back and try to fight it.Knowing that eBay sides with the buyer 99% of the time?

Your buyer messed up and instead of accepting responsibility and learning from it, she blamed you and attacked your character. She is not in a relationship with you, why should you care about her trust? She is not your spouse or child to threaten you with losing her trust. Her behavior is childish. I am glad you blocked her. She bought a silver item without certification and did not bother to test it. If this was not enough, she listed and sold this unconfirmed content item, and got caught. And started to look for whom to blame.

Yes I agree the bottom line is when we turn from buyer to seller the responsibility is ours !

@@TheNurseFlipper I loved silver jewelry ages ago, and for many years I have not been buying or selling anything requiring proof of authenticity. But after this video, I thought that it would be crazy to buy something at basically a garage sale and not test it, whether to sell it or to keep it for myself. It has nothing to do with personal trust, you did not sell this item with the passport and warranty. Yes, some people are experts and see the authentic items, but she was not one of them.

Do you have to mail the item in to get authenicated?

No you just send requested photos

There’s no store that I know of that allows returns or refunds after having the item 10 months. You are definitely not wrong.

Thank you that was one of my thoughts as well

Kat, so we just sold a Gucci Purse and just listed as a purse, no claim that it was a Gucci just a purse, have you ever had an issue doing this?

I wouldn't do it if it's fake and you know it it is illegal

I have been watching you for years , you are someone I feel is honest, ethical, and fair. But 10 months is too long. And with no pictures, and who knows how many hands on it , I feel you are justified in not accepting it. On another note, I’m curious why EBay removed your Dooney listing. I have the same bag, and it’s real. Does yours have the little tag inside that starts with a letter followed by numbers ( its serial number?) So what happens when you authenticate it and it’s real, will the allow you to relist it?)

I think it was cut out is what sucks and it's only worth I think 50 or 60 so not worth paying to authenticate it

I don’t “accept returns” but I do accept returns for damage/fit/unhappy with purchase anyway. Do you think I should change my store to accepts returns? Are there really buyers who won’t purchase from a seller who doesn’t offer returns? I thought putting doesn’t accept returns would essentially keep scammers away but I don’t want to keep customers away too:
@TheNurseFlipper3 ай бұрын
I would do it it will help you in the algorithm and honestly i think doing returns discourages scammers because instead of a partial refund i tell them they have to return it

I've done charge backs a couple of times buying jewelry through auction houses that was portrayed and marked solid gold but were counterfeiter pieces and although it wasn't through hi bid each place had no refund policies ( auction ninja and caring transitions ) I did get banned from auction ninja but easily opened another account. These two auction houses don't offer previews. I paid over 500 dollars through auction ninjas clearing house estates seller and wasn't eating it lol

So 1st thing. I haven’t heard of Dooney Burke being faked. But like you I’m brand new to this. Second. Where do you recommend I get a painting authenticated? I have 2 absolutely amazing paintings that I’ve determined myself are real. The painter is not well known enough to have fakes and there are no prints made of any of his paintings. However they still regularly sell for $600-$5,000 at auction. I have a matching pair portraits and listed them for $1,500. It was recommended to me that I contact a site I can’t remember the name now but I looked up reviews and their reviews were terrible and their BBB was very low as well. Most people pay the fee and never hear back from them. Anyways I also live in an area where the nearest authentic store I could find is a half days drive away and I emailed them and called with no response, the only thing I could find for sure they authenticate is art specific to my state. Anyways I went ahead and listed them because my car is in the shop and I’m hoping they will sell well because I know it’s going to be a very expensive fix and based on my research I’m 100% positive they are the real deal and I have them listed at a good price that similar items of his art sell at. But I’d love to get something more official to help ease a potential buyers mind.

I feel bad IF what she said is even true, but it’s insane for her to expect you to be responsible after all this time. I don’t normally block people, but I would in this case if I were you in case she trolls your shows or pulls something.

I sold a pair of sneakers that ebay said were a fake Louis vuitton. They canceled my sell refund the buyer and return my Sneakers a week later. The shoes were dirty soles were dirty like they had been wore by ebay. Had the sneakers checked out at a company that sells them and yes they are the real thing. Ebay was wrong and have not gave any excuses for my dirty shoes and will not even respond about their wrong action. Ebay should give me a credit for sell lost and give me a written apology.

Stick To Your Guns Kat. That Is Just Absurd The Buyer Would Think A Seller Would Even Consider Accepting A 9 Month Return. Heck, Most Brick And Mortar Stores Won't Accept A Return Without A Receipt Even If It Is Their Brand And 14 -30 Day Max With A Receipt. The Nerve Of Some People. Time To Blockity Block Block. Thanks For Another Great Video.
