What's not mentioned in a lot of videos, where for example Conor here talks about feeling some tension in your side-abs while exhaling. I don't. At least I didn't, til someone mentioned the queue "put your fingers on your lower ribs, and try to bring them in while you're breathing out". That was a whole new experience for me. Different ab activation, deeper breath, and I finally felt that tension. My ribs are flared, and as a result, I normally don't get a full breath cycle. It's part of my problems since I'm dealing with lower cross/anterior pelvic tilt. I'm guessing my core/transversus abdominis has suffered so much since not being activated correctly.

Hi Conor, Thank you for addressing this! There are sooo many questions on social media from people who do not seem to fit the common L AIC pattern, and I am one of them. My L hip is clearly higher, my pelvis is twisted to the L (it's obvious, not subtle), my L leg is turned in (pigeon toed on L side), and I am side bent to the L with L hip higher and L shoulder lower (unless I over-correct in standing and make the R shoulder lower). When I sit in a chair, my L leg rolls in and my R leg is neutral or slightly rolled out. Given this positioning, you can probably understand why a L adductor pull back or elevating the L hemi-pelvis by standing on a book or internally rotating the L leg don't seem to make much sense to me (I was already in that position to start with). I'm really glad to see you starting to address this because I think it will help the general public (like me) better understand and support PRI, rather than thinking it's only for a certain subset of the population.

I had a bad knee injury 10 years ago, then developed an autoimmune disease. Before I got diagnosed and medicated for it that left knee was always inflamed and I couldn't shift full weight onto it or even fully lock my left knee into extension. While I can put full weight onto that leg now my left leg has atrophied muscles which has given me a very severe left AIC and wild compensations. I can't even do these wall exercises in neutral and I suspect I need to develop leg muscles first, but I have absolutely no left leg internal rotation in order to build leg muscle.

Thank you for your content, its helped a lot in understanding why i ended up the way i did and why i am stuck in a postural pattern. I fit the last pattern, im in a right stance muscular pattern but my weight is shifted over to the left with the left leg weight bearing 80% of the weight. The reason i got there is hip inpingement on my left leg. The femur is stuck in external rotation. I likely limped with the left leg first but the fact the hip is stuck up and back meant that i would get a jarring sensation like steping down a small step when walking. This led to fluid on the groin and hospitalisation with my left leg raised for a weak. Thinking back this was incredibly poor medical management.... I then developed the t8 rotation pattern via twisting my entire right hand side around so that the feet aligned forward. This meant the right leg was functioning kind of diagonally and led to injuries and decreased weight bearing over time, explaining why im so twisted and i ended up weight bearing on my left leg despite being in right stance. Its taken nearly 2 years to figure this out and without your resources i may have never figured it out. Ps this realisation that my left leg was actually stuck in external rotation, finally got me somewhere with the doctors, who did basic tests for 15 plus years asuming that because the feet were aligned testing normally would work. On the 12th of august i finally have an appointment with an orthopaedic surgeon and this happened almost immediately after i made this realisation. So i really can't thank you enough. ❤ Ps it also explains why despite my believeing i was the t8 pattern based on everything, the excercises never helped me to get either into true right stance or then shift into left stance. I can now get into right stance as i can use my muscles properly and if i adjust the feet poitioning so my left leg is diagonally outward (so right leg is positioned correctly and left hip is closer to being aligned) then i can actually generate force into the ground and push out of my right side. I get to the end point where it should squtch to left stance but since the leg and musculature arent there, its like i hover hmback and forth for a second and i know instinctively thats natural and correct i just physically cannot get into left stance because of the hip impingement and cam morphology.

I'm so excited I found your channel. I am now 69 and was just diagnosed with scoliosis 3 yrs ago. My lumbar spine goes left with lower hip and thorasic rotation to right and high right shoulder with overall left translation and anterior pelvic tilt which has affected my gait. Ordinary PT has not be helpful. Would your program help me? Can you recommend a practice to prevent progression?

I think ive just realised why i always felt stronger and more confident carrying things (bags of shopping ect) with my left arm. Im clearly shifted over to my left side but never thought about the side abs. If they are stronger on the left probably over tense i can just lean my torso over to the right while carrying things and let that left side ab muscle bare most of the strain

Just a niggling doubt- say my body developed another compensatory pattern on top of a highly pronounced left AIC, would you directly treat the left AIC or the secondary compensation? For eg. : plantar fasciitis on right foot due to left aic and then another compensation to avoid the right foot when running.

Hi, To find someone trained by the Postural Restoration Institute (PRI), go to www.posturalrestoration.com/. In the upper right-hand corner of the screen, there is a link to "Find a Provider." You can click on people in your area and read a little bit about them and see the list of classes they have taken. I'm a PRI PT client myself, and I highly recommend it, especially for people having pain in more than one area (e.g., hip and knee, hip and shoulder, hip and ankle, etc.) Whereas traditional PT tends to look only at the area of pain (which can be helpful if you've had an isolated injury), PRI PT looks at your whole body pattern (which I think is far more effective for people having pain in 2+ areas). Good luck! I hope you find someone and are able to make an appointment!

Hi Conor, I used to sit on a wallet on right hip for 2-3 years while also working hard in gym. Turns out now I have a Lateral pelvis tilt with my left hip hiked up ,bigger in musculature and more forward. Right hip is pulled down more backward and has smaller musculature (upper glutes mostly). I am not able to understand which category I fall into.I read everywhere that hiked side has weak glute mediys but the upper butt of my hiked hip is way more muscular than the pulled down one. Please help.

I have no idea if I'm in left aic pattern or not but I can tell you that my right leg always wants to bend at the knee, it feels much longer then the left, my right lower back very underdeveloped and doesn't seem to fire at all, and my left foot seems to want to rotate out. Only problem I have is with my left hip and this has been going on for quite some time. I can't do any type of abduction because if feel some type of pinch/blocking sensation in the left side of my groin. Then I realized that my pelvis position is all messed up, it sits diagonally an my left hip is rotated in front of my right one, and also sits higher than the right one. I can't even push of with my left foot properly in a defensive slide (i play basketball) because of that same pinching sensation. U have any idea what causes this, I've been trying to figure it out for the longest but it just keeps frustrating me. Pls I'd like to hear your opinion on this

Lumber spine Scoliosis bend to the left, thoracic T spine pushed to right and humped abt an inch or lesser. Upper T spine (c7/t3) to the left again.. Upper Cervical to right causing issues on c2/c3 Following PIR exercises and Need chiro adjustments every 10 to 15 days to keep them near normal. Still tight and painful thru-out the day at different points. A compelete mess. But getting better very slowly as I m focusing now more on Hip alignments.

Hi Conor. I have the fake left stance deep compensation problem. When it comes to the right side lying exercise to get into right stance you say that we should push into the wall with 4-5 intensity. If I do that I push myself 5 kilometers away from the wall. The only way I can push into the wall without my hips moving from its position to the ground is to use literally 1 out of 10 intensity. Should I do that?

I get confused between the sacrum and L5. If the sacrum is right, L5 would be rotated left in a neutral position. according to Fryettes law of spinal mechanics. How does the sacrum and L5 look and in the compensated and non compensated left AIC pattern? Reason I’m asking…My L5 gets stuck rotated left and extended while my sacrum rotates left and extends back on the left, jamming the sacrum against L5. This is according to my DO who does OMM. That’s why I feel “opposite”. My compensation screws up my exercises. Thank you!
