I would say that if you're watching this and can't even invest 18 minutes of your life in educating yourself on your current situation, your current body is what you gonna get. Watch the video, invest time educating yourself. It'll take longer than 18 minutes to make a positive change your body.

The simple way to explain skinny fat is a person that looks skinny clothed, and 'fat'/'soft' naked. Skinny people can actually see the muscles when naked, they are just small/flat muscles

@danielprudhoe647
@danielprudhoe647 3 жыл бұрын
@@brandonbr3796 That is the definition of skinny fat. A lot of men only put visible fat on their belly (at least at first), whilst having skinny arms/legs, which is where "skinny-fat" came from. You're not skinny fat if that explains you though, just a bit chubby with little muscle.

I've been following this advice for the past 6x weeks during lockdown - I'm getting stronger and am visibly bigger, all while being in a caloric deficit. My weight on the scales has stayed more or less the same but my body fat percentage has been steadily decreasing. Several people have commented about the difference already. Trust the process! Cheers, Joe, I've been stuck for too long.

Here's a super basic rule of thumb I like to use: Diet controls your size and exercise controls your shape. If you aren't super big or super small, just soft and saggy, then no diet will help you. You need to get stronger. If you have a great shape to your body but you're just not as big as you want to be, or you're bigger than you want to be, no workout will help you. You need to change your diet.

2 years after posting and this still resonates. I’ve opted for cut with progressive overload in the gym so probably more recomp than anything, but that’s purely from an aesthetic pov. Once I’m reasonably comfortable with my body I’m just smashing a bulk because I’ve got very long limbs and feel like a clean cut would just make me look even skinnier, despite more definition. Coming from a person that use to be skinny fat, I literally just went to a pescatarian diet for about 3 months and did nothing but swim. I swam for 1 hour every day. Not relaxing in the pool but doing back to back laps switching between legs and arms ONLY. The entire point isn't to lose weight per se, but to lose the excess fat build up. I went from a 180 skinny fat, to a relatively fit 165. After I got to my desired weight, I hit the gym. Dropped swimming altogether, kept the pescatarian diet and added 1 day of eating anything minus sugar. No sugar. It shaved off a lot of fat and definitely saw definition night and day. In short, I didn't immediately hit the gym. I went 3 months just swimming and dieting. That's it. Its amazing what your body will do for you if you get your heart pumping and target muscle groups swimming.

Gotta say, I appreciate the no bullshit, straight talk from you. I lost 50lbs this year by following a calories in, calories out approach which has resulted in a skinny fat appearance so this video is a great help! Also, your video editing skills of your vlogs are epic. Looking forward to following you through 2020!

Skinny fat read! I was skinny fat 180cm 79kg, age 30. Big belly, skinny arms and legs and no muscles. I was untrained with 0 cardio and started working out 5-6 times a week for 5 months. My belly just got bigger and didnt see any muscles, only minor strenght gains. I listened to all these people saying go bulk or maintenance and I said fuck it. 2 months later I am now 72kg and my belly is almost gone. My arms and back look more defined. I look fit for the first time ever with good posture. I started cutting eating 2g/kg protein working out 6 times a week, no cardio first month(just lazy). Lose around 0,5kg each week and focus on eating a lot of FAT aside from your protein goal. I eat 1tbs walnut butter and maybe 60g avocado everyday, add olive oil to salad. Compound lifts(Push, Legs, Pull), squats, deadlift etc. I started adding low impact cardio after my workout, cycling for 25min and this has improved my cardio and performance. I ate basically similar things everyday and started removing rice(i ate alot of it before). I dont count calories but when you eat similar everyday then you have control. Train with good form and you can get gains on a caloric deficit. Your welcome!

Im soo glad you made a video on this, soo many youtubers claimed they "had it rough just like us" when in fact they all started relatively athletic/lean. Its kind of annoying to see in transformation videos no going to lie, as they all looked good in the before pic lol. The term skinny fat is way too overused.

For me, I would recommend when your bulking do a surplus. And when your cutting do a deficit. You still want to have the same amount of protein for both, but when your cutting you just eat a shorter amount of calories then bulking.
@RICHFRVR
@RICHFRVR 3 жыл бұрын
?? Yea of course a bulk by definition is a surplus and a cut by definition is a deficit. You cant cut while in a surplus or bulk in a deficit.

From personal experience, I'm an indian with bad genetics and was fat when I started putting on muscle and it was bad for skin and caused stretch Mark's. My advice: cut your fat down, eat less rice. Once you can see alot of veins then start working out. Make sure to go at a steady pace and put lotion around armpits to prevent stretch Mark's.

@@Hawkard Yes. You should. It's like a tradition that's why people still eat rice, but once you see how bad it is for health you realise that everything else is better for you. Even bread is better than rice.

@@moneymule8209 I know right? Bread indeed is better than rice, but that's is one of my problems too. Bread and rice are what almost every Brazilian consumes on a daily basis. There are plenty and plenty of other healthy and tastier food out there but my family can't seem to comprehend. In most cases bread and rice are just here to make you fat imo

Another fantastic video, Joe. You sure know your stuff and you communicate it really well. Most of my clients come to me with obesity issues, so a cut is the best strategy! However, there are many pitfalls to excessive cutting (ie excessive calorie restriction), such as nutritional deficiencies, too little protein consumption, too little fibre, too little essential fats, low energy (thwarts effective workouts), muscle loss, 'starvation mode' of your metabolism slowing to a crawl. As you rightly point out, a calorie deficit of up to 500 calories is ideal.

Maybe I am completely mistaken. But starting with a recomp seems like it is almost always the best solution... Just eating what you normally do while weighttraining is the most sustainable. When cutting AND weighttraining your body will go into starvation mode and you will have less energy and moodchanges, which leads you to going to the gym less, being in a worse mood and more. Just recomp. Let your body build all that muscle with the help of you excess fat. EAT ENOUGH PROTEIN so you are satiated much quicker and changes will come. I am 31 and just started my lifting career about 1-2 months ago. I weighed 90 kilos back then, still do now, but my tummy isn't half as big anymore. I didn't have to strain my body, just good diet and rest and good training. Is cutting more effective? Maybe a tiny bit... Is it FAR more likely they stay with a recomp rather than a strenuous diet/excercise plan that is entirely not enjoyable, especially for newcomers? 100%. Is recomping going to get you your dream physique? Certainly not. But it will get you started. What did you save all that bodyfat for, if you aren't going to use it?

Another way to get skinny fat is being fat in the first place and restricting your caloric intake by a lot and doing a lot of steady state cardio which makes you lose weight, except its all muscle mass.

Bryce Varela-Sayles 26% body fat isn’t very aesthetically pleasing, if you want to get cut and lose body fat continue to lift weights as you are doing but eat in a small caloric deficit, you’ll still make small gains but you’ll lost body fat

Just want to offer some feedback on doing the opposite of what he recommended because I did it myself. Was some 25% body fat and decided to bulk first. I figured whether I bulked or cut first didn't really matter because at the end of one cycle of bulk/cut I would be in the same place. I have to admit it really put a stain on my mental well being during the time. It will make you feel pretty awful from being fat going to being even more fat, but a little stronger. I peaked at some 28% bf at my highest weight and I looked fucking awful. However, that cut was probably one of the best times of my life. I was burning through those lbs and found that my lifts were not really dropping because I was still relatively new to lifting, so my strength in comparison to what I weighed was going up as I was losing weight. This was a pretty huge confidence booster and helped me push through. I would really encourage anyone who is about to do this to really commit to one way or the other and be prepared mentally for how you are going to feel with whichever way you go. Don't get locked in the middle ground when first starting out. I know for me, seeing the tangible strength benefits or weight benefits is what really kept me going, and locking yourself into a "recomp" where those benefits come at much more gradual pace can kill motivation.

Everything U mentonied in this video just describe perfetly this whole skinny fat thing I would say. I was a runner for 10 years( marathon, half marathon ) and then happened to work in an office. Started exercise less and less and eating more and more shitty fast food and stuff. I gained probably 20-30 kg plus on my body and had this little belly and sidefat on my mainbody( or how you call it sorry my neglish is not so perfect ). It comes down due to my low activity sicne that, my lot of food intake, and even tho I was a bit happy about it because I always was so freaking skinny due to the running( except my legs ), now its getting to be out of hand. So Im a bit worried about myself and not happy about how I look and this vid just popped to my recommenditions, so Joe thank you. Helped a lot, and just gained more strenght to start it. Gained( hahahah :D ) a sub from me. Take care from Hungary. :)
