I was having little to no success playing destroyers, so I watched this video. Not kidding, I went out and was #1 on my team three battles in a row. Success and fun are up 375%. Thanks, man!

Great instructional video. Again. Japanese boats are always good torpedo boats, but their guns get much better as the tiers get higher. Akatsuki actually has pretty good guns. Thank you for your lessons. I always encourage new players to check out your videos.

It would help if WG would actually post your rewards for spotting and assist damage like they do in WoT. If players could actually see the results of that they'd be more inclined to act as scouts. I will caveat that with there are times when its ok to be back behind enemy lines so to speak. If your side is uncontested or you routed the reds on that side it doesnt hurt to be in their spawn, you are still spotting, spotting enemies hiding behind islands and making them worry about their flank but it shouldn't be the initial plan to run straight into the enemy spawn. Especially if there is more than one destroyer on your team and covering a different area to screen for the team. If it's just you then you need to be a sneaky bastard and stay alive and screen for your team.

I hope a big chunk of the player base watches this, lots of solid advice. Personally my goal from the start of the match is win the cap (domination mode) or win the flank (capture the base) then evaluate what's needed to win the match. Currently the best DD match I've had was 4,008 base XP and I only caused 117,000 damage. For reference so new players can see how little damage in general really matters, when I rack up that amount of damage using a BB, I usually get around half that XP (2,000-2,300XP). Torping in the back is fun, but it's rarely the most profitable option.

I always have a hard time with my initial engagement in my Destroyers. I always eyeball my escape route and put it in my mind where I need to go if I encounter an enemy Destroyer... all plans succeed up until initial contact. I seem to get out gunned and out supported a majority of the time in the initial engagement which makes playing my DDs very frustrating. I figure if I can survive the initial contact I'm good and can play my game from there on... great video Tbull, I wish more people would watch what you're putting out, you have this game dialed in... I share your advice as much as I can and my brother and I treat it as gospel.

Early on you need to be closer to your support ships than the other DD is to his support. Then when you spot each other you should have the advantage

@@TbullGaming Makes sense... I do feel at times I play too aggressive in the beginning and get too far ahead of my capital ships and cruisers... I get that false sense of security since no one can see me.
@AceMoonshot4 жыл бұрын
Perhaps try making your initial run at a more shallow angle. It helps keep you going too far forward once contact is made. It also helps with retreating if you don't have to turn tight in your retreat. Which also slows you down to make you a nice easy target.
@packatk74314 жыл бұрын
@@AceMoonshot I get caught up in taking a capture point/flank I think... I need to start thinking more along the lines of spot first take Cap/deter enemy from cap second like Tbull is saying. Thanks for the advice. I really appreciate it!
@theleo913864 жыл бұрын
@@packatk7431 one thing that really helps with initial engagements is using the gun lock. At the start of the match, and throughout most matches, you can usually dictate what side of your ship you'll have enemy boats on. Get use to using the gun lock to keep the guns pointed off that side and you'll start winning more one on one fights. Also never slow down your rate of fire from your guns to throw out torps at other DD's. Torps are a distraction in those situations, something to make the other guy take his eyes off you so you can get a volley or two ahead. There's lots of other little things you can do, but having the guns somewhat pre-aimed and not actually slowing down your firing to torp are two things that really help as soon as you start doing them. Maybe Tbull will give us a Journeyman's guide to knife fights one of these days to talk about other things we can do to up our chances of survival.

I agree with almost everything except the harping on DD flanking and getting behind. If done correctly you are still continually spotting half the map once they see toros coming from the side they often panic and turn to look/chase giving your B-ships and cruisers better angles and if you do make it behind nothing screws with a team more than a DD getting spotted behind them. Often almost every boat on opposing team turns their guns in to their own spawn and away from everyone else. Nothing wrong with flanking w a Destroyer as long as you stay close enough to spot also.

I don’t know if it’s because I’m at the low tiers or what but man whenever I try and go out front the whole enemy team seem to be there. Heha I may need to hang back a bit more though. As in find the point of engagement better and not cross the waters too far and get nuked. DD’s have been my favorite to use so far though. At least in lower tiers your Torps don’t have amazing range anyways so you gotta be farther up anyways. So I constantly skirt the edge of my concealment circle and Torp range. Helps with keeping the enemies spotted.

I play the lightning as a gun boat bias build. Get their destroyer down ASAP and you got free reign. I think getting their destroyers gone as quick as possible is far more important then capping. Lightning is far the best destroyer because it is such a good hunter that’s very flexible.

This is a good video, however I've followed Tbull and acquired the Tashkent. I have to agree with him and say she is probably THE DD hunter. Quick gun reload on her 130's and also the 3x Torps with 8km range and over 21000 hit points makes her a nasty competitor. Just getting to grips with it now and I'm liking.

I'll add one comment concerning mission goals: I wish WG would stop with the torpedo hit and torpedo damage missions. These promote bad DD play which is rampant to begin with. My div is used to me complaining that I spend all my time fighting other DDs (duh), but can't get the missions done because they're counter to the real role of DDs. This gives you the unfortunate choice of not getting the mission done--missing out on critical rewards--or playing contrary to your teams' goals.
