I'm simply amazed by this company. After not understanding my meticulously crafted emails, telling me to perform troubleshooting steps that obviously could not be performed (if they had read and understood my email), then they have me not only send in the Litter Robot 3 to them for repairs which I could have done myself if they just sent the replacement circuit board, but then they failed to repair my LR3 and sent it back to me very quickly with the problem still present - only they replaced the AC adapter (which is not what the Litter Robot 3 was sent in for). What a massive waste of $500. We've gone back to regular cat boxes. It is so much less of a headache and I have so much less work to do because of not having to do maintenance on the LR3 all the time. Still, I would like this company to finally honor the warranty they put on their product.

Litter robot 3 is absolutely awful. I've been through 4 in less than 3 years. And every single time it's the same exact problem, It gets stuck mid cycle and its impossible to get it back to home position without removing the globe and putting it back to home myself. It's always a different excuse from customer support though. "Torque fault, bad sensor causing it to never auto cycle, bad hall effect sensors,". At this point I should just be given a litter robot 4 for all the goddamn hassle I've gone through.

EVERYONE PLEASE READ: I used to have a lot of problems with the Litter Robot 3 until I did this ONE THING: Do NOT fill up to the fill line. Fill about a centimeter below the fill line. If there's too much litter, as it cycles, some of the litter gets stuck in the top bubble pouch and it throws the weight off as it keeps cycling making it seem like someone's messing with it as it cycles so the robot turns jams. Please try this. The litter robot can be so good!

@@OEM19 Did you get all teh sand out of the top part? Try taking off the orb, rotating it back and forth to get all that sand out of the top bubble/pocket. Then try putting it back on and cycling to see if it messes up

Unfortunately I had received it about 4 months prior to that and therefore was past the return window. Oh well, it’s my second LR3 and this one is worse than the first. I thought six years later the tech would’ve improved.

i’ve had the litter robot for about 5 years and it has been absolutely fantastic. As long as you can accept that you are the maintenance person, this thing should last a very long time as parts are pretty easy to replace with only basic diy skills and using the youtube video’s available. I would definitely recommend this product if you want to save yourself lots of time and effort

The litter robot has been nothing but a headache for us, it stopped cycling as it should 2 months after we got it. Got okay for a bit and now stops mid cycle every single cycle, not knowing if my cats will have a bathroom while we’re gone is a nightmare. Two years later and I still regret this purchase, customer service was rude when I called.

Ive had this issue and finally figured it out. Its the pinch sencor. I found the guide on the official app. To fix it clean the gunk under the push sencor when you take off the globe ( the button pressing piece above the sencor.) Take the tray and globe off flip it upside down and clean the pinch sencor with a dry cloth and vacume everything or blow out the gunk and dust. It worked like a charm. I also put tiny tiny amount of baby oil on the teeth of the globe to help it glide smoother 👍

I completely replaced my pinch sensor and drawer full indicator using the kit from litter robot. That worked for about 1 month until I started having problems with it repeatedly stopping mid cycle again. Not even the reset button helps. This is the most finicky machine I have ever seen and they keep trying to make it more complicated with every new version.

The original Litter Robot was amazing and lasted for years...this one is nothing but issues. I know my warranty is up and have tried all the troubleshooting tips, but can't leave my house for more than a few hours without worrying about it getting stuck.

We've had one of these for 3 a bit Years, had replaced the sensors twice now (Quick flashing orange light = doom or if you're really lucky clean the sensor with a cotton bud it might work), really need to redesign that part or use better compenents to build the circuit boards. Wanted to say we actually had many problems with this machine stopping mid cycle (Orange flashing light (Slow)) and I finally, after all this time, figured out what it is. A day after replacing the sensors, it stopped again mid-cycle, I noticed if you hit cycle twice is starts going again but then stops after say 5-10 secs, if you hit cycle twice and get it going again, then immediately then just touch the unit above the control panel, just lightly, it would stop, worked out that it was the weight of the litter that was triggering the stop, as if a cat had went near it or in it while it was moving. By lightly pressing on the unit it was enough to register too much weight and stop, whereas it should only stop with a significant weight like a cat going in not pressing it lightly. Had just topped the litter up before that cycle, it's really sensitive, keep the littler below the littler line, about 1" below the rubber floor level indicator, not level with the line. You need to account for the extra weight of the cats "business" + the litter weight. If the litter is on the line and then it partially cycles but doesn't complete, and clumps of litter get stuck in under the top litter, it will get heavier and then even if you get it to cycle it will keep stopping, and litter will clump into even bigger chunks, then they might fall from top down and hit the bottom causing it to stop once again. Litter weight is the key I think to stop this damn infuriating pausing mid-cycle.

I have had mine for about 6 years. I love this thing and my wife really loves it as she was person who did most of the scooping. It has had the occasional problem but with a quick look for troubleshooting fixes has almost always done the trick. Is it perfect? No, but for a machine that moves and has this much "dirt" and dust in it I think it's great. Whenever troubleshooting wasn't effective (once) a call to litter robot for a new part, which they sent me for free even though the warranty was expired by 2 months, fixed it. When my cats wear this thing out I will be getting a new one. Probably won't be soon though as my parents have had theirs even longer than me.

I had a litter robot II for years with no issues. We bought this open air and its been a total nightmare. One fault after the next. Nothing helps. I've had to leave extra litter boxes laying around when we leave to make sure they have a place to go when it eventually just freezes in place upside down, which is often.

You're not alone, Joe - I'm in the exact same situation. The LR2 had some issues, too (smearing poop all around when it was full, ugly design, etc), but at least it was reliable. The LR OpenAir - with all its extra sensors - has been nothing short of a nightmare. It is so unreliable; there's some sort of problem every day. I already had to replace the pressure sensor twice, it constantly needs to be reset, and I really cannot leave it unsupervised for more than a day. I regret selling the LR2. I bought the WiFi upgrade, hoping that it would fix some issues with new electronics and software, but now I have even more problems, i.e. WiFi disconnecting on a regular basis. If you read Amazon reviews and blog posts, you'll find that these are common issues. I wish they would open-source their firmware software, so I could go in and fix this bloody thing once and for all. Like you, I have an extra scooping litter box, especially when traveling. Obviously, this defeats the whole purpose of this five hundred dollar 'marvel'. Some users had success disconnecting / hacking all the sensors, which essentially turns it into a dumb box, but is much more reliable. I'm going to try that as well.

Oh goodness, I have had mine for about 4 years. I have 2 cats. Was a god send due to traveling. Over the past year it’s a blinking light of any color at any different time. Of late it stops mid cycle and yellow and red both blink together. I contacted customer service via email and waited a long time for a reply which only asked me to provide my serial number! I thought it fairly pathetic for such an expensive machine!

Ours has done the same in the past, but usually with enough resets worked again. Lately it just gets stuck upside down. I've taken off the top piece and turned it into place a bunch of times but it would just get restuck again. I wiped the sensors and wires in the bonnet, still was getting stuck. I wiped and vacuumed any remaining dust on the inside, same thing. Just finally tried unscrewing the front panel where the motor was. Took out the gear on the rubber casings. Saw some more dust inside. Wiped the whole thing out, vacuumed again anything that got underneath the wheel. Cleaned the rubber and reset the wheel gear, screwed it all back together, and now it finally is working again!! If this doesn't keep it working I can't imagine anything will. So far so good. So in summary, the final steps were to take off the whole rotating part, unscrew the 5 screws where the wheel and panel are, cleaned everything out carefully (without wrecking the plastic seals), put it all back into place and it worked. Hope that makes a little sense and helps out

Our cats are kind of scared of it moving, so I do not think they'll jump in when it's in motion. Our LR3 is incredibly frustrating. We've had to mess with it nearly every day.

SOLVED - I had this happen and it was because the pinch detection terminals were rusty and covered with dirt (they aren't obvious). The company shipped me new terminals (no charge) and in the meantime I was able to clean them existing ones with sandpaper. This has fixed it while I wait for the delivery. Second issue in about 4 years, the other was a detached spring that was easy to reset (videos are online). It was related to a plastic shield that the company has done away with, they are sending me a plastic piece to cover the hole so it can be removed as well. Completely brilliant service and sorted out our issue. I love the fact that this purchase has made our life so much easier. FYI to all, I purchased 2 Litter Robot 3s through Amazon bundled with a 3 year warranty and glad I did! I'm 15 months from purchase and having issues with one that I have not been able to fix myself. I see that they no longer are bundled with a 3 year warranty, now its 1 year on Amazon and they dont offer the newest 4 model either. I have just contacted the company through Amazon chat bot and will update my progress. I almost freaked out when I went to the newest Amazon purchase page and it said comes with 1 year but my receipt says 3 years, whew.

I’ve had mine for 2 weeks and it’s already stopping mid cycle. Resetting doesn’t work. Took off bonnet and cleaned under the globe..works for half a day then stops again. 2 different litters and both get stuck to bottom of it…not sure what to think of it as I really want this to work!

I've had the litter robot 3 since 2015. The first was defective, and they replaced it after about 9 months, so I have been using the current one since 2016. So, we have gotten a lot out this machine, but not without being an expert in troubleshooting. But, I also think some troubleshooting is to be expected for an electro-mechanical device at this price point. It would probably take 10x the cost to make it totally reliable. This video, while well intended, is a bit Pollyanna. In my experience, three main things will cause the robot to pause mid-cycle, the light or kitty proximity sensor, a loose drawer, or a sensor thinking the drawer is full. The last two may be interrelated but I'm not sure. Anyway, if the device stops mid-cycle like here in scenario #1, the first thing I do is turn on the bright overhead recessed lights in our ceiling. Often, the unit will immediately start turning again when I do this with no other intervention. If that is the case, I get a paper towel with some spray cleaner and wipe off the light/proximity sensor on the front panel. I try to remember to do this every week when I clean it but we all forget. If the bright light does not work, I quickly open and close the drawer pushing it in firmly. That usually does the trick and the cycle resumes. The exception is when the drawer is getting full. In that case, I open the drawer and shake the contents back and forth to redistribute the waste towards the ends, and then push in firmly. This will usually work and buys some time for another cycle or two till I have proper time to change the bag. Also, I sometimes have to open and close a few times to get through a cycle. In this case, when the cycle completes I like to pull out the drawer and make sure the bag is not interfering with the drawer closing properly. So, what's the thing with the drawer getting loose all about? I think two main things besides the bag cause the litter robot to think the drawer is open or loose. The first I think comes from the fact that some litter will inevitably leak onto the track and create excess vibrations as it turns. This physically loosens the drawer. To prevent this, at least every few months when cleaning I take off the globe and aggressively vacuum the track and the gears. This is great preventive maintenance, and I always see an improvement in performance when I have time to complete this step. I think the second in my case is age. After a while, things just don't fit together as tightly as they used to and even the normal turning motion can cause loosening. There is not much you can do about that except continue to keep up with preventive maintenance and troubleshoot. When I go through a stage with a lot of stoppages, until I have a chance to vacuum the inside I usually put it on the 8-hour timer cycle and sometimes turn it off when I will be gone for a long time. This prevents the nightmare of being away with the unit stuck halfway through cycle. Our cats are good about that, but I want to avoid it just the same. The pinch detector scenario #2 is something else completely. I've had to replace our pinch sensors and it is not too difficult. I won't comment any more than to say that there are many great videos out there on that topic to guide you through it.

Same issue... After it dumps the waste rotates back home it gets half way there then tries to rotate the opposite direction before attempting to rotate back home again and it never makes it past a certain point. I've have done all troubleshooting/ cleaning of the whole unit same result everytime. I definitely wish I wouldn't have wasted money on this considering how expensive they are. I'd rather go back to scooping.

I've had SOOOOOOOO many various issues with my litter robot 3 connect. I'm going to clean it, reset and relube it (apparently thats a thing) and see if it still has issues. Argh! No joke, 1 in 5 cycles runs properly. the other 4 are all different issues. If a refresh doesnt fix it then i'll contact litter robot. I've had some poor experiences with them in the past so I'm hesitant to reach them again.

I had issues with mine starting then stopping over and over during the cycle. I contacted customer care and it ended up I had some litter on the contact pins. Once I cleaned those, it started working normal again.

Ive had mine for just over 3 years now. Paid for an extra two year warranty which just expired in July. Have already replaced the bonnet once and it seemed to fix the problem for a couple months but now its doing the same thing getting stuck. The inside light goes on and off as well. The side contacts on the bonnet seem to be a major point of failure in this design. Also my unit wont connect to my wifi anymore so when it gets stuck i dont get a notification. Ive resorted to leaving another litter box nearby when i leave the house just in case.

My litter robot III open air has been a nightmare. It was amazing at first but now it is constantly stopping mid cycle. Either the bonnet doesn’t sit properly or something is wrong with the wiring, either way no matter what I do nothing seems to help. Worst $900 I’ve ever spent, it’s caused so much stress at this point I’d rather just use a regular litter box.

I had one for two years. First year ok, then the problems started. One after the other, spent a fortune in parts. In the end threw it in the trash. Went back to the good old litter box and never looked back.

There are two endemic problems with the LR3..... 1. The DFI sensors will fail. $50 part replacement fix. The little little led diodes will stop producing the right amount of light power for the receptors. Easy fix if you are DIY. 2. The bonnet removed error will stop the unit mid cycle. The fix is to make sure the contacts are clean and making good electrical contact. But most of the time the bonnet is moved during the clean cycle which causes the contacts to separate. Place your hands on the bonnet when the unit cycles...if the bonnet moves then you have a mechanical problem rather than an electrical problem. There is a shield over the bonnet contacts, if they are separated during the cycle you will have an error. Sometimes the wires are too lose and the globe will catch the wires and cause a break in the sensor circuit. You can fix this problem with some gorilla tape that keep the bonnet and base together even though the globe pushes the bonnet away but check for loose wires in the bonnet first. Good luck...it worked for me.

Mine keeps stopping so i keep pressing and pressing. If i don't push the bottom it does not circle at all. Sometimes even when i push. Sometimes randomly circle and stops upside down so my cat can't go bathroom at nights because i sleep so can't fix it. It does what it wants it seems. I bought a normal one as a back up toilete.

I am on my 2nd LR3. The first one worked great for about 7 months, then the nightmare began. The pinch detector kept going off and stopping the globe mid cycle. This was a HUGE issue for me because I travel a lot and rely on my neighbors to take care of the kitties. When this happens the kitties have no where to go except on the floor of my house. My 2nd LR3 is now doing the same thing after about 1.5 yrs and again I am very frustrated. These are the best things ever when they work, but when they malfunction they are a nightmare. When I go out of town I now have to have a back up plan for the neighbors which includes a standard litter box Ugh :-/

i have the issue where half through a cycle it returns to the home and flashes red/blue. My partner and i have to LITERALLY babysit the thing and turn it off and on at LEAST half a dozen times (not exaggerating) to get it to cycle and return home. I have cleaned it out, cleaned the sensors and it STILL has this problem daily!

Unfortunately going through this with my four that I’ve only had two months!! Customer service is taking forever to respond and my robot just attempts to cycle and then gets stuck mid cycle. It’s been an absolute nightmare for something so expensive

I am beyond frustrating by the open air robot. I had 3 original models which continue to work great. This one keeps getting stuck mid cycle. Then my cats cannot use it. I need to go back to stationary litter boxes. They are NEVER inaccessible to my cats. Money wasted. HUGE frustration. I hope you guys go back to the old model.

I had 2 litter robots for over 15 years they worked flawlessly I did have to replace the motors because the motors would wear out which is you know normal wear and tear and I still have one of them fully functional the other 1 I need to probably change maybe a control panel anyway I bought 3 of the new ones thinking oh wow I've loved my litter robot I used to tell everybody I was in sales so I told everybody about them I got other people to buy them because they were so wonderful and these 3 new ones that I've had now for a year have been the worst nightmare the entire year unfortunately my health has been in such a bad way that I didn't have the time to deal with number 1 none of them have Ever been able to get on to the Internet successfully one did for about 2 weeks and then it stopped working so the Wi-Fi capability is a joke of epic proportion FAIL. Then these stopping MID CYCLE it does it continuously so they're video that says oh if it goes back to home and blue light goes on everything's fine no it's not because next time the cat goes in the same thing will happen again and I've had up to 8 times trying to get it to go back to home, It is absolutely a nightmare I can't trust them so I can't ever leave them for any amount of time Because I know they're going to die and not function and then the cats have no boxes and what do they do with no boxes? WE ALL KNOW WHAT!!! so believe it or not I have to have spares I have 5 cats 1 cat hes got to stay in a room alone because hes aggressive and he has 2 he has one of my 1 original litter robot and so that's my backup for him my 2 cats that are on the same house level as him they have 1 litter robot and 1 standard litter Box because guess what their litter Box the robot doesn't work most of the time. And then the 1st one I bought the Wi-Fi never worked on it but it does actually work it works for about a week. And then of course because 2 cats use it it needs to be changed and unfortunately never know when that's gonna be. So I have spent so much money with this company over the last 15 years between 5 litter robots you can only imagine and I'm so frustrated and now they won't call me back and they say oh you're warranty expires in January and I get no response back so now I get warranties over but I don't care I'm at the point where I'm ready to throw them away. Buyer beware do not buy these robots anymore they were bought out by someone else and they are no longer the company they were when I bought my 1st 2 really a shame.

@@myshadowstalksme have you tried the freezer bag taped over the pinch sensor? It has helped tremendously, but how pathetic that you have to try hacks? I would never recommend them again. What is wild is that all these companies are coming up with these automated litter Box and they charge horrendous prices, and yet none of them are really great.

@@dionnepray9821 I was so desperate I took the entire thing apart, vacuumed it real real and cleaned everything with a damp rag. I put everything back, said a prayer lol and plugged it in. When the blue light came on it was like winning the lottery! 😂 I’ll never buy one again, and their customer service is a joke. $399 for a replacement bottom is outrageous. They should have 5 year warranty on them. But I’ll keep your tip for the future. I agree all these hacks to make a $530 machine to work.

I love this product, but I wish I could make one change. Make it so if I hold down the cycle or empty button, it ignores all sensor input and cycles or empties respectively. I can take responsibility for making sure there is no cat physically inside it when I'm standing there holding down the button.

This happens fairly often....cats have to poop on floor as the litter has been captured and unit stos mid cycle. Have to keep clearing the problem.....and cleaning the floor!

I discovered mine was stopping mid-cycle because one of my dumb ass cats gets in it while it's moving. Now I turn it off when I leave the house and cycle it when I get home.

My first LR3 I had for two years then it stopped working. They said it was a circuit that the urine odor deteriorated. I was not up to taking the base completely apart to replace it so I paid $300 more to get another base and guess what? After 4 months it has stopped turning!! I put too much money I really don’t have for nothing!!

I'm frustrated too. I have LR3 connect and always problem with the yellow light flashing. I cleaned the contacts and works for 2 cycles and then again the same problem. Stop and stop every two seconds. I have this litter robot from 2018 and already replaced after a few months the sensors and now the same problem. I sent a ticket to customer service in August 2022 and today September 29 still waiting for a response from whisker care. Terrible.

Is there a weight limit for cats? For last year having shuttering and non rotating issues with mine but one of my cats is now over 20 pounds. Wondering if that could be the issue?

No, that should not be causing an issue. It's possible that there is too much, or too heavy, litter in the globe. Some brands of litter are heavier than "normal" so we'd suggest removing some litter so that it's about an inch below the raised fill line. Then press the Reset button. My Litter Robot 3 is unpredictable and buggy. I bought it in Nov 2022 and have frequent cycling issues, but I was able to manually cycle when needed. Now, the unit will not cycle on its own and won't reset. When I finally get it to go, it is over rotating and getting stuck. I am now using it as a $700 litter box. I've cleaned it and did all the troubleshooting and customer service is never available during day hours (USA PST 3pm, no one is available to help). Nice concept but not worth the headache

First of all, me and my cats are extremely happy with our litter robot. But, unfortunately, a while ago it started showing some issues, stopping mid cycle. I finally discovered it only does so when it’s dark out. Anyone any idea why? I never have the sleep mode on, my cats enjoy a clean box at night too and I sleep through anything 😄

I spend more time troubleshooting this dang thing than actually enjoying the supposed benefits of it. I can scoop litter morning and night and spend less time doing it than I've spent trying to make this dang thing work. Pretty pissed that I spent that much money on it. Definitely not worth the expense. Getting ready to see if I can find some more affordable alternatives.

One of my robot 3's blue light constantly blinking and if I hit reset button yellow light would come on. I went through so many videos and nothing worked. So I took bonnet off, dome off turned base sideways and turned the black circular stabilizer one turn clockwise and Wala fixed my problem.

If you purchased a unit manufactured after February 20th, 2018, your Litter-Robot won't have an internal shield in the globe. I’m literally so frustrated with my LR3 connect. Everytime it tries to cycle, it stops 2 seconds after starting and then sometimes continuously every 2 seconds till it’s all the way upside down and then it’s stuck like that. It’s driving me insane.

The Open Air has been nothing but a disappointment. You get maybe 2 good years then have a bunch of expensive repairs followed a period of frustration where you can’t trust the unit to operate day-to-day before you chuck it completely.

The litter catch bag can't block the doo-doo level sensor in the bottom. The machine will think its full even with an empty bag. (Keep the bag tight!)

If the yellow and blue lights are both on, that means it's in Sleep Mode. The Litter Robot 3 with WiFi has been an absolute nightmare. The unit continuously stop mid-cycle and begins blinking all lights. I’ve tried trouble shooting, taking apart the entire unit, resetting, and everything under the sun but cannot seem to fix it. Since I’ve purchased it I’ve yet to get it connected to WiFi. I’ve had it unplugged now for almost 5 months which completely defeats the purpose of a self-cleaning litter box. I will never be purchasing from this company again and hope more people know how much of a waste of money this is.

I'm on my 2nd LR after the first one died permanently only 2 years after purchasing. The LR open air is SO unreliable. I can't believe how many people are commenting that we've all experienced the same annoying problems. The thing is just buggy and I'm no longer recommending it to anyone. I too have to put out extra boxes as back ups because the thing is so faulty. Super frustrating and 2 expensive mistakes purchasing. Never again.

Hopeless hopeless hopeless machine. I've had various issues and kind of just made do with it until a few weeks ago when it just stopped functioning. The only sign of life is the solid yellow cycling light. I've cleaned it, hard reset, unplugged and replugged the motherboard, checked the rest of wires are intact. Nothing. The buttons don't respond either. Not even the power button. It's such a pain. I wish I'd never purchased it. The company I brought it from (Catnovation) went out of business so while it's still in warranty there's absolutely nothing I can do

WAS a loyal litter robot costumer…but stop adding unnecessary features…go back to litter robot 1.0…the open air sucks…I spend at least 3 days a week trying to figure out why it’s “broken”

Because your overpriced units are garbage. I had to force the company to replace my first one (still under warranty). Now the replacement Litter Robot has stopped working correctly. DO NOT BUY ONE OF THESE

This is the worst product. It never cycles. Has my cats peeing around the house. DO NOT BUY BIGGEST WASTE OF MONEY.

@liiterRobot i have done that many times. Over it, your company and your product. It’s criminal how much you charge for something that in the 3 years i have had never works consistently

One of the worst things we've ever bought. Even worse is it just stopped working mechanically and seems to just be breaking down over all only after a couple months. Support has been non existent and they disabled their phone lines lol...like wtf

First of all, me and my cats are extremely happy with our litter robot. But, unfortunately, a while ago it started showing some issues, stopping mid cycle. I finally discovered it only does so when it’s dark out. Anyone any idea why? I never have the sleep mode on, my cats enjoy a clean box at night too and I sleep through anything 😄

I had a problem where my globe quit spinning if the night light was on.It would spin a little and then the yellow light would flash. Nothing I did would get it to work. I noticed that it would stall as soon as the blue night light would come on. Unfortunately, in order to turn off the night-light, you need a solid blue light . I had to fiddle with it until I was able to get the yellow light to stop flashing and to get a solid blue light. I managed to finally turn off the night-light. The globe worked perfectly after that. So what I don't have an internal night light in the unit. I just plugged one into an outlet.
