Sometimes when I use a dip pen over watercolor with a lot of granulating pigment and especially over gouache, it doesn't sit as well as it does over the plain paper or staining watercolors and it can spread and give you thick lines no matter how hard or soft you press/control the dip pen - I've... ruined? over-embellished? many a painting because of this! I got a smaller nib for another dip pen for doing thinner lines and that has helped, but... my goodness can it get frustrating! I think the piece looks great! It was refreshing hearing about your struggles with it and showing all of the middle stages along the way.

Maybe try out ink that is suitable for watercolour! Microns are perfect for that (they also have colored pens not just the regular black ones)

I’ve found that to be the case for me as well!! I forgot to switch to a smaller nib on this one when I went back in with the dip pen. 😅 I’m so glad that seeing the middle stages was encouraging for you!! I think sharing all the ups and downs of art is super important. 💛

i try to put pieces away when they are not going the way i want them to, and that break usually helps me figure out what is wrong. coming to something with fresh eyes usually shows what i was doing wrong🙂
