I have celiac disease and when I eat gluten I’m exhausted. The chronic fatigue is unbearable along with depression, anxiety, and brain fog. Green tea, ginger, etc. does nothing for me. I’m poor so eating gluten free is almost impossible. I love bread and pasta and gluten free is so gross.

I'm so glutened right now. Feel like I'm dying. I thought I could eat the gravy on Christmas eve and a bit of stuffing. I literally almost died from severe diarrhea, nausea, vomited once, stomach pain, headache and chills for some reason even though i dont have a fever.....let me tell you my friends! Never again. I hadn't eat that amount in years. Gluten intolerant here. Thank you for the video and support.

It's like you're journaling my gluten poisoning experiences. This is SPOT ON according to my reality. I too am a Coeliac. Well done. Many don't realise this is a MEDICAL CONDITION and that gluten for a Coeliacs causes physical damage to our intestines that is linked to potential long term harm. I am grateful for the awareness this raises. 🙏

Pasta and rice are not a good thing to eat if your stomach is upset from a gluten allergy and neither are dairy products. Try almond milk , and non gluten foods like fruits or mixed nuts, or mashed potatoes, veggie soups, non gluten gravies , etc. basically stick to a vegan diet and try to avoid pastas. Im speaking from my own experience. Also i was prescribed a medication that really really helps id say do NOT just wait it out and let it go away on its own because you will just be in pain for a longer period of time. You should seek medical help if the pain is intolerable. The medicine i was prescribed is called Sucralfate. I know everyone is different but id recommend asking your doctor about this medicine and if it's right for you because it has really helped me. Goodluck and God bless you all. ❤

Hi, diagnosed in 2018 at age 40! I was glutened at a restraunt...christmas/birthday dinner. I chose only from their GF Menu. Advised them it was a disease with severe consequences. I appreciate this video and the one on traveling. I love to travel. CAUTION GRAPHICSorry about graphics here...My MD called it full evacuation top/bottom, uncontrolled, litterally pouring sweat, lasts between 1-2 hrs. I appreciate the tips and assurance Im not alone.

I hate when restaurants are like "is it a preference or an allergy?" I'm like, if I ask for gluten free just take it seriously. Ugh!!!

I’m my opinion that is a good thing… because then all the people who just prefer to be gluten free or are just intolerant ruin it for everyone.

Sorry speaking from a restaurant worker’s perspective this is a HUGE difference. We ask for a reason. It changes kitchen procedures and affects what we serve you. For example at my work, there are a few dishes that are gluten free but go through the same fryer as item with gluten. Gluten preference people can have those dishes, severe gluten allergy cannot. Also if it is an allergy, not a preference, extra cleaning precautions are taken before prepping food so as to prevent cross contamination. This takes a lot more time in the kitchen and can be avoided for someone who “just prefers gluten free.”

@@MaddieSC52 how does it ruin for everybody, this is dumb response. If someone says no gluten it means no gluten. I'm vegan and say no dairy and I hate why people question me and I now have a dairy intolerance so when I say no dairy i mean no dairy. It shouldn't get questioned and it most certainly does not ruin it for everyone else that's a dumb thing to say

My body goes on full purge mode and the pain is so bad I can't even cry. My eyesight goes dim. I'm freezing cold but I'm sweating gallons. So weak during and afterwards. Once it's over with, 18hrs. later, all I can do is cry. Please don't think I'm a baby. I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

I’ve just recently found your videos and I’ve learned MORE from your videos than the 5 different gastro drs I’ve been to over the last 10 years! I’ve had the bloating (where I thought my insides were going to explode), the gas, the severe cramping (felt like someone was ripping my insides out while I was on the toilet), the brain fog (had some awful days at work after lunch many times)…was given results of blood testing in 1988, told to avoid beef, dairy, a long list of beans and gluten. Back then I didn’t know what gluten was, knew I hadn’t picked it up at a store (like a protein bar) dr never said what it was, dietician that gave me a week of menus had no idea as she listed toast, rolls, MILK….2014 gastro dr did endoscopy and I printed out the paperwork….he wrote Celiac Sprune found…& never said a word to me about it. I found the 1988 report this year while cleaning out files…now eating gf….thanks to your videos I’ve learned even more about cross contam. You are a blessing for me…I’m doing much better, still have issues but they are fewer now. So thank you for posting!

I got glutened from drinking some broth that had noodles in it. It’s day two and it feels like it’s getting worse. My first gluten attack was from my ex mother in law who gave me a “gluten free muffin” - that put me in the hospital and then the doctors didn’t believe me when I told them I’m celiac because I was in so much pain. They took out my appendix. It was never my appendix but I was too weak to find an advocate. The second time my mom poisoned me on purpose to see if I was actually celiac. Yes I definitely am! Now this is the third time in 6 years and it’s almost unbearable. The cramping and pain and diarrhea is constant. My joints and body hurts. I’m trying Imodium now and I’m not sure what else would help take away this intense intestinal pain. What makes it challenging is that no one understands the pain.

Heads up to those diagnosed with celiac disease. Watch out for developing other diseases often associated with those who have celiac disease. A search on the subject will quickly discover over two dozen diseases which may develop in those with celiac disease. Most common are arthritis, diabetes, thyroid disease, anemia, and other gastrointestinal diseases such as Crohn's disease, irritable bowel syndrome, microscopic colitis, loss of bone density (because celiac disease prevents some absorbsion of minerals such as calcium), and certain cancers associated with the gastrointestinal tract. Be sure you have a good gastroenterologist who is very familiar with celiac disease and the chances of developing associated diseases. In the over 15 years since I was diagnosed with celiac disease, I have developed several additional associated diseases. Thankfully, my gastroenterologist is very experienced and has quickly identified and treated these diseases. I am currently in my mid-eighties and have learned to adhere to a strict gluten free diet and function mostly normally. I also take several prescription medications and dietary supplements that control the associated diseases. The bottom line is be informed, be a strong advocate for yourself, have a good gastroenterologist, and adhere to a strict gluten free diet.

I am not a doctor and this is not medical advice. Talk to your doctor before taking anything that has worked for me. After being glutened, the only thing that temporarily works for me is Gas X. I take care not to overdose on it. But it usually can get me from the restaurant to my toilet. One pill seems to work for about 15 minutes. The maximum dose (4 pills) works for an hour. Once the worst is over, my joints and muscles are stiff and sore for about 90 days. I hobble around like I'm 150 years old. I have found that Naproxen helps me. I also become lactose intolerant for 90 days after being badly glutened. Lactaid pills really help me.

I’m visiting friends and they got a gluten free pizza for me the other night that I’ve never tried and turns out it is one where they use wheat starch but “rinse” the gluten out. 🤦🏼‍♀️😭 It’s been actual torture with the works non stop 🤮 🤮🤢 and horrid gut pain- it sucks so bad. I’m pumping probiotics, electrolytes, ice, and anti nausea meds like it’s water. I usually can’t eat normal for weeks after.. a modified BRAT diet is only what helps me until it’s out of my digestive track. 🥺

I abbreviate cross-contamination to “x-contam” all the time. A coworker almost glutened me last night (it was her birthday and she ordered Papa John’s Pizza. She offered me some “GF” vegetarian pizza, but I wasn’t familiar with how Papa John’s staff prepped the pizza, so I took the pizza and threw it in the garbage when I arrived home from work. I took a safe food handler course last weekend and learned about the dangers of leaving protein rich foods at room temperature for more than 2 hours. The pizza in question sat out for about 3 hours, so I decided to chuck the food in the trash. It’s bad enough when I get glutened; I don’t want food poisoning on top of the glutening.

Thank you for this video!!! I feel like I'm going to die. I've had all these severe symptoms for over twenty years. In fact all my life I've had severe gut & bowel issues & I'm 70. The main episodes were 10 years ago with pizza which i also ate tons of when I was a kid. I attributed it just to the cheese/dairy. I've known about my dairy allergy because now it turns into anaphylaxis type symptoms with labels that say "May contain traces of milk". I am very careful about avoiding anything with milk yet my gut symptoms have gotten worse at times. Excessive & painful gas, diarrhea, needing to vomit & it's so painful. I eat toast everyday. I just noticed whenever I eat wheat products especially when wheat gluten is added for whatever reason the pain starts within an hour & I have to be near a toilet for hours. Now... I think my guts are too damaged to repair themselves. At least I made it to 70. Well wishes ❤

The last time I was glutened (pre-pandemic) I ate at a Thai food restaurant which are normally pretty good for gf. I had a big bowl of delicious soup, my partner and I drove to a mall afterwards and about 90-120 minutes after, I had to run to the mall washroom several times until I felt I would make the drive home, not ideal. In retrospect, I feel the server didn’t care or didn’t truly understand or both. Now, I stick to places that understand and have good gluten free standards and I always do the double checking when I get my order by saying, so this is gluten free? Buns that taste too good are always suspicious! Luckily, there are so many better choices than there were 20 years ago!

I've definitely saved myself from eating a full-on-gluten meal on several occasions. 😱 I'm very thankful that there are more and more options though! Thanks for sharing! 🙏

I would steer away from pasta and rice. Cauliflower salad that’s been pre chopped and lightly heated so the cell walls are broken down is helpful.

Does anyone have any tips on how to not eat anything, that has gluten in it? It’s been really hard for me since diagnosed in 2018. I wasn’t even diagnosed with intolerance my stomach doesn’t like it. My doctor could not figure out what was up. I try not to eat it but it’s hard.

I just got diagnosed with gluten sensitivity 6 months ago. A couple of questions for everyone here because I don't know if everyone's symptoms are the same. First, I get sharp pains (almost like electric shocks) on my legs, arms, and abdomen. Does anyone else here have those symptoms??? Second, can gluten sensitivity turn into Celiac Disease??? Last, I haven't been able to go to restaurants since I got diagnosed with this, how do you all do it if and when you go to restaurants??? Thank you.

I haven't been glutened or cross-contam yet, but before I was diagnosed, I would always feel bloated and burping (from the attic and basement 😉) after I ate something that has gluten. Did the nausea and/ or vomiting happen before you were diagnosed or after?

I’m gluten intolerant and I get glutened every couple weeks lol it happens most of the time whenever I eat outside so I avoid eating out as much as I can. I can tell right away if I’ve eaten gluten. In about half an hour I’ll start to feel brain fog and migraine/pressure in my head and it lasts a full day. Sometimes it gets really bad that I have to throw up what I just ate. I’m so sensitive to it that I have to avoid foods that says “May Contain: WHEAT” so I always have to read the labels before I buy food at the grocery store

when i get glutened it usually starts during the night when i sleep, i wake up often during the night with a strange feeling. i get like stabbing in my stomach or electricity, and then the burps that smell like vomit start, which is what i hate the most probably. sometimes the burps start earlier so when they do, i know whats about to happen and take a stomach pill in advance. afterwards its usually diarrhea that feels more like water, and as soon as i return to bed from the bathroom i already have to go again - this lingers for a while until i start to come back to bed fall asleep from the exhaustion for around 10-15 minutes until the bathroom call wakes me up, it lasts until my body clears everything, so a lot of roundtrips to the bathroom. it can last for several hours i also throw up sometimes, not always though. when i go through this, the two things i found helpful so far are the stomach pills and turning the AC on if its a warm day. i'm also newly diagnosed, around the end of 2022.

Fully glutened in Bali because tour guide assured me the pumpkin waffle was gluten free after checking with chef! All pain/gas happened on bike ride afterwards but started vomiting excessively, then dizzy with dehydration and collapsed. Had to go to ER for iv electrolytes because couldn't replace fluids as fast as losing them by vomiting. Worst case ever experienced in past 22 years. Cross contamination not so bad symptoms but inject insulin for food for type 1 diabetes, get severe low and then high blood sugars. Unable to treat lows quickly because malabsorption in gut prevents glucose absorption to recover. Gets scary because insulin overdose happens ( death!) if don't have correct amount of absorbed food for dose of insulin. Hence obsessional about cross contamination ( liken gluten to green kryptonite for me, as if Superwoman). Rarely eat out or sadly invited to friends' homes for meals since have diagnosis with type 1 diabetes for 55 years. Sadly far more dangerous than only coeliac because of balancing insulin dose with food eaten and more common with tyope 1 diabetes than normal population because both share similar but not the same autoimmune genes.

This happened to me!! I ate a pizza that was full of gluten, then soon afterwards my stomach began to bloat/hurt. I started to burp and I felt as though I was going to be sick. It was horrible. I was in the car with my brother at the time and he had to stop twice for me to vomit. When I got home, I just went to bed and slept until I felt a bit better. I hope it never happens to me again.

Am trying to figure out why my guts react so horribly and painfully after eating a cheeseburger and fries and a slice of gas station pizza....thought I was passing a stone but then the pain spread to the other side, then my entire lower back, I basically stay constipated all the time. Thought it was my normal to only go once or twice a week...I've been 10 days or more at times. First time in my life I'm trying to cut out extra sugar, the hydrogenated oils, the preservatives and pesticides, and all it took to send me to hell was a couple of white bread products. I only keep wheat bread at home now, and multi-grain. Cut the amount down too, by half usually, and am generally feeling much better. Beware the white devil.

If you have red hair, auburn, or sandy blond hair you are most likely to have, or develop a gluten intolerance. It’s just our anecdotal genes ! Some believe that these hair colourings originate from the northern hemisphere, where Gluten grains were not found. or introduced until modern times. Humans that occupied the lands in the equator were introduced to gluteus grains a lot earlier and learned to tolerate their effects over the centuries!

I am newly diagnosed though a biopsy and I have another issue with being glutened: if that would happen to me I would not even understand it because I have no symptoms at all and feel good when I eat gluten (I mean just as good as when I do not). So now I am afraid I will be eating gluten without knowing it and not have any control over it (because I won't notice).

Hey there! Yes, I can only imagine it would be really hard to know if you've been glutened if you have silent celiac (no clear symptoms). There's a possibility that over time, your body might start reacting, though. (I only started getting big reactions after my body had completely healed). If not, the best way forward is just to avoid it as best you can-read every label and avoid cross-contact. Best of luck with your transition to gluten-free. 💕

I ate store bought gluten free cake 5 days ago and still in the bathroom every half hour. Imodium only lasts 2 hours tops. Now confused, I read the label and there is a looooong list of ingredients and no idea which might have caused this. Never ever again will I buy gluten free packaged food. 😭

Diagnosed with celiac disease 15 years ago. Transitioning to gluten free was tough at first. There weren't many gluten free products available at that time and learning to be very careful to read every ingredient label was key. Over the years I have been "glutened" several times. Everyone allergic to gluten has different symptoms when ingesting gluten. My response is diarrhea which comes on shortly after being "glutened". My solution is to always carry liquid Imodium AD with me. As soon as I feel it coming on I take a dose. Sometimes it takes several doses to stop the diarrhea, but it always works. When I travel and won't be close to bathrooms, I sometimes take a dose of the Imodium AD, "just in case". Tip, the liquid Imodium AD works faster than the pills.

Hey Jessica! Thanks for your comment. ☺️ If you’re gluten intolerant, then this may be fine, but no amount of gluten consumption is okay if you have celiac disease. Even if you don’t have obvious reactions, it still triggers the autoimmune reaction, which can lead to more severe long-term health issues. Even if you ARE just gluten intolerant, I wanted to comment to ensure those with celiac disease who are reading through the comments don’t try this! As always, I’m not a doctor, so I’d recommend reaching out to a healthcare professional for more info on this! 😊
