Had no choice. I had to declutter. Going from 8 rooms to 3 was a rude awakening. With over 350 boxes packed in the attic, it seemed daunting, but someone told me to get up 10 minutes early and put the Lone Ranger theme on(or whatever you desire) and the theme lasts about 9 1/2 minutes. You would be amazed at how much decluttering you can do and because of the fast pace, it wakes you up too. I will continue this and it does feel so much better when all is said and done. Thank you for your videos.

I've been working on this. I found your videos after I started, but you have given me much peace in the process. I decided early on NOT to sell anything - everything was donated. That has brought me so much joy, not only in the giving but in the realization that I no longer HAD to sell possessions to make ends meet. Now I'm left with 1 storage unit I am working to eliminate (I sold my house, and moved into a SMALL RV on my daughter's property). I can now walk from the front to the back of the unit almost without moving anything. Soon I will eliminate even more. Thank you for all you are teaching. You are changing - and saving - many lives.

I always was the independent one of the seven of our family and could work my way through most things undaunted but age and illness have made me feel useless and unable to cope. My "To Do lists" are very stressful, with sublists and post its every where. Better to have none, do anything but something, instead of getting paralyzed by a never ending list, where everything is an emergency. EVERYTHING is to be done, without any helpers around; Decluttering before major renovations, is like moving out, but also a good time to declutter as well. I prefer to think about all that's done, instead of the never ending "to do" list next. It's the only way for me to calm down and be productive, instead of paralyzed and panicked. Anything done is better than nothing.

I decluttered for three weeks every day. I want to be able to clean what I have. I want to come home and it be a very peaceful place to live. My friends can not believe how much stuff I had. It was awesome the amount stuff I donated and trashed. I did the decluttering myself but I had a lot of help hauling the stuff away. I am becoming a minimalist. I keep going threw stuff to get rid of more.

I had been feeling stuck recently, I've been finding less and less things to declutter, it just occurred to me the other day they maybe it's time to switch to maintainance mode. Hard to believe that a little over a year ago it started with six bags and boxes. And after that a couple bags or boxes every few weeks until just recently, now it takes a month or two to get a box full enough to be worth a trip to the thrift store to drop it off. Even though I may be done with the massive decluttering I'm always assessing and if I find that something is no longer adding value to my life I minimize it.

I'm at the same stage as you but I'm looking at it now a bit differently. It's been over a year of hard core minimizing. This summer more stuff has crept in. It's been summer, relatives visiting, trips, etc. I'm starting at one end of the house and looking at every space saying to myself "am I happy with this space?" Have a box on hand and I'm surprised how much more I declutter even after the project has been completed in my eyes. When I walk through my house with THAT mindset I see things completely differently. Good luck!

My reason to de clutter: Someday (when I'm gone) I don't want my daughter/husband to sort through the many extra things I have in the house. Even though things are stored well and the place shows just a bit of clutter... I have many storage spaces that are full. Time to act and not read/watch about how wonderful it will be. I will tackle at least a drawer or storage area each day.. and before I know it we will feel the open space and feel free.
@karenrich90925 жыл бұрын
Very inspirational video. I am in the process of cleaning out a garage, storage building, basement, then attic along with helping my daughter pack to move out because she's getting married. One of the reasons I've come up with for decluttering/organizing is to have things in order in case some day you are not here and they (someone else) needs to find certain things. I find it's best if you can clean out the storage areas of your home on a regular basis (yearly or every other year) to keep the "junk" from building.

I'm stuck, my main bedroom is a mess, there's a pile of stuff on floor and round sides, can't even get to my 2 chest of drawers. I will keep doing a bit, an hour a day, plus I got up early today to tackle abit. Its all clean clothes, bedding, stuff for donations as charity shops closed. This has motivated me. One day it will be a lovely clear space. I've been watching a hoarders heart on you tube for inspiration, she's great. Most of my other clutter is manageable, but the bedroom is my worst, it's like a dumping ground. I just put stuff into piles and get stuck. So frustrating as it could be a lovely room, lovely light wooden floor I can't see.

I have loved decluttering as long as I can remember. It was a huge achievement for me to get my wife to also become a minimalist. Luckily we started with that BEFORE we got kids. It has helped us a lot to keep the clutter to a minimum. Also we tried not to buy new things, but trade, borrow, or at least buy used stuff. Even after almost three years we give away stuff to different charities each week. Your videos are very inspiring and help us to stay on track, because minimalism is a daily routine for us, and not just something you do and then stop. Greetings

12/19/20....DID my 1st declutter in 2006-2007. I had built my "forever" home in 2000 & was living in it---spacious but every closet double-hung/neat---every corner filled with expensive items---modern kitchen with every convenience built-in or stored/organized in cabinets to the ceiling. NOT to mention my long living & dining room wall with extra deep shelves 8 ft tall & 30 ft long...that held my "collections". I down-sized from 100 👼 angels to prob 40....donated them to my church/my church friends/2 other churches. I down-sized from 400 clowns to prob 200....gave the stuffed ones to a friend's little girl/donated some to clown collectors I knew/donated to a private school's charity sale/donated the balance to 2 upper-scaled church thrift stores. I down-sized my 250 🐕 dog 🐩 items by giving a few to friends/ donating to the private school's charity sale/local dog group that was having a huge fund raiser. I also decluttered furniture & sets of china & clothing & like-new suitcases/travel items. THEN in 2013 I declutteted HALF of EVERYTHING I owned b/c I decided to retire & move 412 mi to FL. I SAVED lots of 💰 by NOT paying to have it all moved! NOW we are coming to the end of miserable C-19 mask-wearing & lock-down 2020. After 9 months of reading books & watching movies & going back to "cooking from scratch" & "making my designer jewelry", I have DECIDED IT IS TIME FOR MY LIVE ESTATE DECLUTTER... as some viewer mentioned in 1 of your YT videos. I am KEEPING my most loved items from my various collections....taking a pix/making a list of each type/placing my lovely items so I can ENJOY them every day/organizing ALL my items & placing the list/pix with my NEW WILL that is being written now. I will donate the decluttered items this last few weeks of 2020....as I make plans to have my estate settled easier when the time comes. THANKS for all your YT videos with great ideas & wonderful ways to make decluttering go more easily. Any body + every body should watch your videos b/c we all need your vision/version of peace & simplicity in our lives.

Can’t take our decluttering stuff anywhere now... Goodwill and others are rightly closed. I might have to carve a corner in the garage, but even that will go so far. Dang! I was doing well...

Less clutter means more time for me focus and work towards my goals.

I have been trying to scale down and declutter for years. My husband is the one who wants to hold on to everything. We are in our 30s, have two little kids, and stuff in bins in our basement from his childhood and college years, as well as baby and toddler toys/clothes. He won't let me donate my old clothes. NO, he wants to SELL everything. Everything has a value to him and he thinks we can make money by selling most of it. I had 4 garage sales this summer and still have a basement full. What do I do to get him to let go of the stuff?

On my journey, what I am finding is that clutter is really delayed decisions. That is why often it is easiest at first when there are plenty of really easy decisions. Early in my decluttering journey there was stuff that was literally trash. Well, for trash it was one simple answer. get rid of the trash either trash or recycle. Next was stuff of some value but no real value to me, this was harder because first I had to decide that it was no value to me, then decide what to do with it. And, using this strategy of taking care of the easiest stuff first (I do not know that strategy is best, some swear by eating frogs, but me I prefer easiest first) led eventually to much harder decisions, and these take longer, but two advantages I had developed, one my decluttering muscle got stronger, and two there was less total stuff in my life, and proportionately more time to spend on each item. I have heard the average American has 300K items, so if you are spending a long time deciding each item, well, that will take you a long time, but if you do easiest first you can go from 300K to maybe 50K pretty fast without ever getting to the really tough ones like family heirlooms and the like. Say an ideal life might have something like 5 - 10K items there are only 40 - 45K things left to do somewhat slower.

I am a little stuck letting go of items right now. The things I value and want to keep tend to shift with my mood...frequently. And I guess most specifically I am referencing clothes but it goes beyond clothes- shoes etc I have literally put things in a get rid of bag only to find myself two days later pulling it out of the trunk of my car tearing the item out and fully embracing the ‘mood’ that item represents for me wondering why I ever thought I should get rid of that outfit or accessory ‘fill in the blank’. Does anyone else have that problem? If so, what did you do/are you planning to do? Sometimes it will be a few months down the road and I will wonder where did I put that item? And then with great sorrow I will realize I let go of it.

Once I get rid of 30 years of books, the rest is gravy!

Yesss! That was one of the first things I did. It was the hardest but great to get out of the way! I probably got rid of a few hundred books. ❣
