Nick knows a lot, but doesn't know everything. He thinks that you have to get every crowd to dance No Matter What! He is very mistaken. This is Not True! I personally used to be "This Guy 👆🏾". And think I didn't do a good job because people didn't dance. Our job is not to make people dance. Our job is to make sure Our Clients and their Guests enjoy themselves. You have to understand that some people and crowds just don't dance. Regardless of what you play. People don't have to dance to have a good time. They can enjoy themselves just listening to your music, seeing family members they haven't seen in a long time, enjoy each others company. As long at the end of the night The Client said you did a Great Job! That's all that matters. Once again, People Don't Have To Dance To Have A Good Time!

Exactly right! Don't burn your bangers in a panic just bring things down and rework your dance floor when the time is right. What you say is true I believe people can tell when a DJ is in a panic and not in control and groups will let you burn.

Especially when old geezers run out of apple sauce and their adult diapers are full.. I just hate one thing about this mf job, people with the requests now think they own us, thanks to the stupid Spotify Algorithms etc.. Everyone is a know it all, and If you don’t play their song they get an aneurysm.. start hating immediately.. First of they are Requests not DEMANDS, but they think of us as clowns, dance spider dance, you wanna shine my shoes, PAULY ..man wtf…

I blew a mix.. It was just a train weck. So I stopped the music and admitted, "well, that sucked" and had everyone stop what they were doing and do a shot. I said I need a shot and three people brought me one. We did a shot together and then I yelled "Let's get this thing lit" and played on.

I totally agree that the "DJ is struggling I'm not going to dance" sort of people are out there. I was DJing a post-covid-restrictions wedding reception and messed up ONE of my mixes. Right as that happened I glanced up and saw some dude make a "wtf" face and went and busted out a game of corn-hole (bean bag toss). After that my dancefloor was basically non-existent.

Hahahaha!!! Wtf what a deuche bag… There is something to that science one little ass hater can ruin it all, especially if u do not play his song! Starts talkin all smack “uhhh Dude This DJ Sucks, he blows man” As if an meteor struck the earth! Ha Yes tools like that do exist..

To the one thumb down person. You either hit it by accident, aren't listening, or your resentful which won't let you grow with valuable observations like this! Great stuff Nick!

…when it slows down .. I switch genre .. if I see little kids dancing I switch to a kiddie song .. if I see couple maybe drop a couple slow song for now .. play with the crowd that’s engaged .. when everyone finish taking shots they will come back

Funny how you guys on the east coast coordinate the flow of a wedding reception. In California, we have the ceremony, cocktails, Grand Entrance, dinner, toast, cut cake, 1st dance, Parents dance, open the dance floor and in our area, music cuts off at 10pm.

I think changing more deliberately makes you seem more pro, less nervous.....get on the mic, fade it out, play a sing along or yacht rock or even a slow dance.

I tend to urge couples to knock everything out before I even open the dance floor. That way everyone can dance through without any interruptions and it normally works out in my favor.
