Very good advice. But what do I do when my 26-month-old attacks ME when I pick him up? If I remove him from a situation (to keep someone else safe), he will then attack me instead. If I put him down he proceeds to hurt himself (usually headbanging the floor - so violently he gets a bruise). He is ahead on all developmental milestones (the ones defined by the NHS, anyway).

Is he autistic? Might be worth getting an evaluation.

In my case it’s my 6 yo doing this. He directs his anger usually at his older sister. Sometimes she has purposefully wound him up and sometimes it has just been her stating she doesn’t want to do this or that (perfectly ok too). My question is when he has reacted like this but it’s not been because she has purposely annoyed him is it best to remove the older child first and comfort her because she has been hurt? Or still remove the younger one? Because then you have an older, hurt child (don’t often get there in time) and she tends to feel “I’ve just been hurt and mum isn’t coming to me, she’s going to my brother who has behaved ‘badly’” so he’s behaving like that and getting all the attention. That’s exactly how she expresses the situation to us afterwards. “He’s hurt me mummy and you’re not doing anything to comfort me, you’re sitting with him”. Actual words 😔 Thank you Sarah
