My name is Iva, and I am a professional pianist who somehow landed a career conducting and managing several choirs - so I know from experience how difficult it can be when you don't have any help. You're soo nice ! you said 6 years ago in one of the early videos that what you're doing is unconventional, but ukw that's what is needed today. t's no less than a treasure that you tell us the intricacies and details of choir, which no one tells. It's nice to see good choirs on KZbin videos but I always wanted to know the basics and details. Thank you so much for everything you're doing!! You're unconventionally amazing!!

All of your points today were spot on!! Great advice about arranging your own music, I've never done it, but have always wanted to! I'm looking forward to next week!! The absolute hardest thing for me was learning how to lower MY expectations! I couldn't believe that there were actually people who wanted to sing just for the pleasure of singing, regardless if only in one voice. My personal joy singing in many a choir was the harmony between the voices and waiting for that one perfect moment when everything was juuuuust right... (which doesn't happen often) and thinking that, as a director, everyone was looking for the same! Nope, nope, and nope!! Thank you for another honest video...loved it!

You give me hope! My church is in desperate need of a new director. I've only recently sung with them as a soprano as this is a new church to me. The choir is elder but experienced enough to understand the basic process of practice and performance. There is great potential for improvement. Although I've never directed a choir; my mother did for years. My dad was a Minister in the Lutheran church and the members got my mom as director in the deal. She knew enough about piano to read music and bang out parts. She had an incredible voice that wasn't utilized as it may have been for being the director. She was knowledgable with warm authority and incredibly talented. My mother has since passed and now I have a tickle of dare that perhaps I can do this or at least not be afraid of trying. My church is desperate after all. I will take your advice and not apologize for lack of experience up front. I'll be able to draw from the experience of how my mom did it in addition to watching your videos!

Our Orthodox choir has just collapsed 🤦🏻‍♀️ My son is the chanter and leader and they won't listen to him or obey his instructions. He's worked so hard to put the choir together 😢 We've finally given up trying.

I was in this predicament. None of the singers could maintain their parts, even with a two-part harmony arrangement. An experienced choral director friend came to listen and they said that there wasn’t anything that could be done . The choir was disbanded

Hi Eva, nice channel; been watching some of your video's the last couple of months. I was wondering about something; how would you approach choir members who think they know a lot about music, rehearsal and conducting technique, while it's actually clear they really don't? Especially if they seem to be some of the more respected members of their choir. Thank you for you help!

Hello, happy to have you here! Oh, yes... I know these choir members.. And they are always the ones who have been in the choir for the longest time! I have made two videos here on the channel - How to deal with difficult choir members and How to get your choir's respect, which could be helpful for now, but I will make a video on this topic soon. I think we can all relate to this problem, unfortunately. For now - just don't let them speak too much and don't converse with them too much during the rehearsal, I think that's the first step - if they start to comment during the rehearsal, try to stop them by saying - "I hear you, but let me do this and later we can talk." Because the biggest problem about their comments is they disrupt the rehearsal. More on the topic in the video!
