I have only one crested gecko. Maybe when I move to a different place and have more space, I could potentially think about getting another crested gecko so I could start a breeding project of my own. Living in an apartment isn’t really the best option for this sort of thing. Bioactive enclosures are great, but initially it takes a bit of work to put them together.

ive seen some breeders keep all their hatchlings together or at least house with their clutch mate for the first couple months. then separate around the 3-4 month mark. do you have any thoughts on this? do you ever keep clutch mates together for a time or do you immediately separate?

I know of a few breeders that do keep clutch mates together for a month or 2 and then seperate. They haven't had too many problems with doing it that way as long as you keep an eye on them for aggressive behavior. I always seperate mine right away though.

I would normally say just leave it so they can learn, but if it's on toes or tail, you could help out. Just be very careful.

Oh, also make sure you are spraying the enclosure down well enough at night. That can help a lot😁

hi there! Another questions. I have a clutch from april that is starting to hatch. 1 egg hatched last night (day 87) the other seems to be pretty far behind developedly. I have candled the egg and have been closely monitoring this clutch. the egg that has not hatched still looks very healthy - nice white shell and in good form, when looking inside it is still bright red, you can see good veins, but the gecko inside is just forming a little slower. It has started to look more like a gecko, but it's clear it is a few weeks behind. Is there a reason why this happens - where 1 eggs is so far behind its sibling? have you ever experienced anything like this? My plan is to keep this egg incubated for the next several weeks as I know is can take sometimes up to 120+ days for these guys to hatch.

Are you absolutely sure it's from the same clutch? Have they been incubating in the same container? I honestly have never heard of clutch mate eggs developing that different from each other if kept at the exact same temp and humidity. The longest I have had clutch mates hatch is 3 days apart. Their could be something wrong with the baby that is developing. OR it's totally fine and just needs more time to grow. I would absolutely keep incubating. Please keep us updated!!! I'm invested in your little guy now😆

also do you have any recommendations on enclosures? for the last few years I have been using glass enclosures and I did temporarily try leap enclosures. Glass enclosures are just too heavy - after this move across country im really over glass enclosures and the leap enclosures were fine - i didnt mind doing build outs but the screens were really flimsy and kept caving in. So i want something that is sturdy, not overly heavy and something where I dont have to worry about flimsy easy to push in screens

Hello! I just noticed a crestie gecko has hatched his head out of the egg! It's my first time and I'm super nervous and excited.. It's kind of frozen, like it's not moving at all. Should I do something?? Could it die after making its way half out of the egg????

The crested gecko diet comes in a powdered form that you just add water to. You wouldn't actually feed it in dry form.

You are most likely incubating at a higher temperature than we are. We let them incubate at a lower temperature (68°f-70°f) which allows them to develop larger, healthier , and have overall better structure. That's how we do it... everybody does it differently. Congrats on the hatchling!

@@creaturecove yeah I had them at room temp. Averages 75. I breed ball pythons. The geckos are just a joint thing with me son and this is our third pair of eggs to hatch

How do you know their sex?

Males have spurs on either side of the cloaca. Female will not have them. Plus, there is usually a pretty noticeable difference between the size of males vs. females. Females are larger in general.
